Yeah, butyou would really only get to pull something like that off a couple times beforeyour name became SO known that people wouldn't even want to stand in the same room with you, let alone trade stuff to you.

I do not condone thieves. I was just stating that sometimes people give very high-priced items to Smugglers to slice without knowing their person--as it should be--however, the few will always ruin it for the majority.

I know what you mean. I believe I've had only a few people actually be worried about it. As many before me have said, it is odd how the 'underworld' type player class is also the most trusted.

I think the last time I had someone worried about it was like last October!

Well, understand that Smugglers are not "thieves". We are not proffessional spooks, nor are we bag men. The definition of a Smuggler is one who takes highly valuable, illegal goods and has them transported illegally into places to be distributed. Now while this does not apply in SWG (yet), we do have the ability to illegally modify weapons and armor. If Jabba, lets say, asks you to slice Boba Fett's carbine, and you decided to gank it... you would probably die horribly. Now let's take a non-existant name like Mr. Johnson. Let us assume he has moderate underworld connections, but not enough to really kill or even hurt you. You still won't gip him. Why? Because of reputation.
A Smuggler with a dirty rep for being a 'thief' will not be hired to Smuggle anything, ever (and that is if he is lucky. Unlucky he ends up dead or worse). Likewise, a Slicer with a dirty rep for being a 'thief' should probably be griefed to no end by the players, because it is fitting. No, Smugglers win their bread through the virtues of the deal they make.
I am quite frankly proud of how Smugglers compose themselves.
BTW: Damn you Caylin for retiring right when I come back
Will miss you man, and miss your little house on the hill outside the swamp city.

Some guy just handed me 3 NSELs, and 9 Krayt Weapons to have sliced lol
When I asked how he got my name, he said "I did a /who and saw ya"
Makes me happy I'm not an ass like the .01% of the Smugglers out there that woulda stolen them.

In my college days when I experimented with Smuggler, I was shocked to see the things people wouldgive me to slice. Indeed, people are trusting. If I was slightly more unethical, I could have easily kept or destroyed them. Luckily, I am askind as I am sassy.

Ya I have been surprised at how trusting people are sometimes. The first time I delt with a smuggler I took screenshots of the whole event and all I had the guy doing was slicing some stock republic blaster that was worth maybe 10k tops.

I suggest we keep such issues to ourselves, really. Once the less ethical members of the player base realize they can make a mint by cheating as a Master Smugglers, there might actually be more Smugglers than Jedi.

the only time i ever kept anything of someone elses was this one time that this dude insisted that i was screwing him over by slicing speed rather than damage and started spamming about it in coronet. i explained to him that i didnt get to choose and i told him that he needed to pay me 5k (thats not a whole lot next to the price of his krayt scatter pistol) if he wanted his gun back. upon his refusal to pay, i kept his gun. looking back im not too proud of it...but i just hate being told what i can and can not do by other people. i would have been more than happy to slice it, get my 5k and move on but i guess a 35%+ speed slice just isnt good enough for some people /shrug.

I just tell them beforehand if they don't pay I'm selling it to the closest person that wants it. They enter into the trade fully aware of the situation, and so can't do anything about it if they try something stupid.

My favorites are the "trusting" guys that then try to screw you over after you've sliced the item but before you've handed it back.
/Open trade window
/Put sliced item up for trade
/wait..
/wait..
/Customer places 1/3 of agreed credits
Me: "Sorry, that's not what we agreed on."
d00d: "Trade!"
Me: "Sure, after you pay me."
d00d: "I uh.. /tipped you the rest!"
/Cancel trade
Me: "How much did you spend on this? How much do you think I could get for it?"
d00d: "??? Trade me!"
/equip item (whether I can use or not)
Me: "Sweeeeeet.. looks good on me, don'tchya think?"
d00d: "#*#$!! Gimme back!!"
Me: "How much it cost you when you bought it?"
d00d: "XX mil! Gimme back!!"
Me: "You could pay XX mil for the weapon, and couldn't pay me 10k for the slice??"
d00d: "F-you!! Gimme back!!"
Me: "(sigh) You'll see this up on the bazaar in the next few days, keep an eye out."
