Thread: Odd duel thing happened

I was goofing off in the cantina with my Master Smuggler/ Master Musician and giving out the new crafting buffs (the proceeds willfinally allow me to buy slicing equipment)
Now my toon is probably the weakest combat-wise Master Smuggler templatein the entire game. Other then the required skills I'm x x x 1 Pistols and a CL 55. Anyway some little kid who has some rifleman temp of Cl 60ish starts insulting people in the cantina and is trying to duel CL1 crafters (who are there for my buffs). So I think I'm going to play a joke on the kid. I say yeah I'll duel with you.
So we duel, I hit the Feign Death (I'm not wearing any armor or carrying a pistol) and it works. However, the kid thinks he more or less won and ended theduel (I thought heidenified the FD and gave up). So the kid continues to insult people and against my better judgement (I should've just put him on ignore) I decided to duel him again.
After he accepts the duel, I hit the FD button but it doesn't work b/c combat hasn't started yet. He knocks me down and in a brainfart I type /stand (why I don't know) which of course leads to "disoriented can't get up". I recover mentally,hit knockdown recovery and spam the FD button. It works, I fall down, he calls me a hacker and says he'll report me b/c he can't target me, overall good stuff and I tease him a little bit.
Oddly, for some reason I stand up. He then proceeds to knock me down and triple incapped me, yes this person DB'd an unarmedmusician 
I'm just trying to find out why I stood up? Was it:
1) Typing /stand even though it was before I managed to FD?
2) Doing the teasing in spatial?
Anyway, I'm not too upset about the duel. Overall, I still think it was pretty funny and dying in a video game doesn't bug me. However, I just want to know where I went wrong so it won't happen again.

you may have hit an arrow key, moving brings you out of FD, I think

I think FD is all messed up. I can't speak for PvP, but I've pretty much given up on it in PvE. It sure isn't like it used to be. It used to not work about 10% of the time, now it works about 10% of the time and even when it does I'm often still attackable and I get pushed up and out of it all the time. I don't know what kind of nerf bat our jedi masters pressured the Gods of Development and Deception into using, but it sure was the worst kind of, but ugly, stick.
It's sad, FD used to be a mainstay and one of the best things about being a smuggler, not that we ever had much going for us in terms of specials, but this too has passed into uselessness, I fear.

You have not used FD enough. Really. I can walk through crowds of npcs who want me dead. just by standing up and walking and then FD, stand, FD, stand; until I acctually FD. Usually takes about 5 seconds.
And lets face it you usually know you lost way before 5 seconds.

I've not used FD enough? hehehe. I think I've had enough experience with it to use it right. I've been using it since about August of 2003 and have been a master since about November of 2003 and until just recently I tried to use it a lot. It just isn't working like it used to. Just the other day in the Caverns on Kashy, the Un'sorils were knocking me out of FD all the time, the few times it actually worked. Don't insult my intelligence by implying I'm not using it right or trying to use it enough. I have more than enough experience with it since the beginning of the game to know it isn't working like it used to or like it should or at all.
I depended on FD to master Smuggler, because back then before buffs and before real armor it was the only thing Smuggler had going for it. I was very good at using FD to solo things like Acklay, Krayts, Kimos and the Gorax...back in the days of Health Shot stacking...bleed them and FD and watch them die...no, I think I've used FD enough to know how to use it correctly...but thanks for putting your questioning of my competency into the mix...it made me laugh...now go ahead and troll somewhere else.

FD works of me. Saved my tookus on several occasions. Sure sometimes it doesn't work but hey at least it does work more than it doesn't.

Your basic tactic in the duel was wrong. Instead of doing feign death, you should have hit concussion shot and /endduel.

I have noticed that I will come outta FD in PvP without hitting a single key afterwards. I will even take care not to move my mouse, yet sometimes I just stand right back up after a minute or two.

Leg sweep (macro'd)...concussion shot and then endduel.

Sometimes FD is treated likea state, and if something clears your states, you'll stand up as though you've been "cured" of your FD. Happened to me many a time.

Things that bring you out of FD:
1. touching arrow keys.
2. touching hotkeys.
3. a gentle breeze.
4. a pharple sneezing on another planet.
5. the Emperor willed it so.
6. you touch yourself at night.
Seriously though. FD is touchy, and like all Smuggler related things, has absolutely no official documentation about it.
