Thread: I wish Smugglers had a black DL-44 XT at Master!

there are so many better things to fight for. We could continue to try to help the devs with our as-yet unknown smuggling missions. We could fight for player bounties being added earlier rather than later.
It pains me that having TWO pistol certs in our skill-tree isn't good enough.
SMuggler is looking better than it ever has before, I can't understand why a black version of a pistol that is already available is really that big a deal.

Personally, I'll not waste any energy fighting for something I don't think we should have.
What we should have is an actual profession.
Amd to be honest to see us scrambling for weapon certification the loathesome fashion every other profession is makes my stomach churn.
What defines us is our ability to smuggle goods from A to B past people C. That is what we are supposed to be. Whether we have black, silver or pink polka dot pistols is irrelevant to me.

I honestly have lost track of where the metal, black, with/without barrel or scope DL44 is certified anymore.
Honestly though, I can only use one pistol at a time and if you took away one to give me a black DL44 just as many people would be pissed off as are over the black DL44.
What would your solution be? Let everyone use everything?
This is silly, we have had ONE much more important Smuggler issue pending for two years...SMUGGLING. Let's FOCUS and stay focused.
Do you ever feel like arguing for player smuggling at this point in time is like throwing a grape at the hull of a battleship?
Not to hijack this thread, but I wonder how the current propossed smuggling system can be amended to bring fuller player smuggling about. I know one thing for certain: we will be doing smuggling missions to fill the needs of the player base in the proposed system. The current proposed system also gives FULL freedom for the client and smuggler to set up their own smuggling deals between the two parties, which is the most important aspect of any player smuggling system, in my opinion.
No harsh contraband systems, no player inconvenience, which is also good.
Their propossed system is nice, I must admit, and does a good job for the limited server resources they have.
Their propossal could be amended to be better, however, and perhaps it could form a basis for a REAL galaxy where crime is against the law, but meh ![]()

If we want a black DL-44 XT, just cause the pistol is cool and one of the most iconic Smuggler weapons, and maybe cause Han used it, should not bother you in the slightest. Its always been my favorite weapon hands down. I like the history of it, the firepower and the fact that I've used it in so many SW games.
*Snip*Look, the DL-44 is an iconic Smuggler weapon, its reknown throughout the galaxy and Star Wars in general, its getting horribly gimped in Pistoleer and we deserve it. If you don't want it, don't use it. But please, Wes, at least pitch the idea for those of us who do want it! There are many of us who do even if we aren't the most popular folks on the Smuggler board!
First of all, I think everyone's blowing Fishbrain's "Be Your Own Smuggler" comment way out of proportion. The way I interpreted it was we should play our characters however we wish. If you want to play a Han Solo-esque Smuggler, that's great. But you don't have to feel constrained to make your Smuggler similar to Han Solo. More importantly, however, is that you shouldn't limit others to play their character like Han Solo. Han is a great example of a Smuggler, but not the only example. There are thousands of possibilities for us to explore, including a Han Solo archetype. We're all Smugglers and I don't think anyone looks down at any one else based on how they roleplay (or don't) their character.
Now then, as to the question of the DL44. I highlighted a few statements above that i have to disagree with. I'll start by saying that the DL44 is probably the most badass looking piece in the game. It has a great backstory, a good history and would make a very potent weapon in the hands of a Smuggler. But I don't know how you can say it's "a Smuggler weapon." A Smuggler weapon is whatever weapon the Smuggler happens to be using. A DL44 in the hands of Han Solo is a Smuggler weapon. A DL44 in the hands of Jar Jar Binks isn't.
Let me use a different example. I was watching Goldfinger the other day and James Bond runs around with a Walther PPK. Is the Walther PPK limited to a "spy pistol" because an iconic spy uses it? No. It's just a pistol that happens to be used by one example of an iconic spy. In Die Hard, most of the terrorists us H&K MP-5 sub-machineguns. That doesn't make MP-5s "terrorist weapons." They just happen to be really good, inexpensive, reliable weapons. Because of that, terrorist and counter-terrorist units around the world use them.
As for the second comment i highlighted. I don't see how the weapon is being "horribly gimped" because it's in the Pistoleer profession? Just because it's not ours doesn't lessen it. And how can we make any claim of "deserving" it? We might like it/desire it/want it, but we don't "deserve" anything except the ability to Smuggle. No where in the definition of Smuggler will you hear any reference to what kind of weapon he or she uses. Being that it is a pistol, Pistoleers have as much right to it as anyone. We're getting certified for two pistols already which is much more than we've had in the past. The Pistoleers already want certifications on every pistol in the game. The only way they're going to accept a third pistol in our line is if they get that wish. We're finally getting thrown a bone, we shouldn't throw it back and demand lamb instead of chicken.
Before people start jumping down my back saying i'm looking down at people for wanting the DL44, i want to say that i respect everyone here's playstyle and desire to build a unique character. If that happens to entail a DL44, wonderful. If i decide to pick up Master Pistoleer, I might just get one myself. Just remember, though, that Han Solo didn't use a DL44 because it was a "Smuggler Weapon." The DL44 should be considered a "Smuggler Weapon" becauseHan Solo wanted it. But it's not THE Definitive "Smuggler Weapon." It's just one (albet amazingly effective) example.
I think I love you.
Great post, I think it summarizes every part of "our side." We are in support of you having the smuggler that you want to have, and we are sorry that the current certification pistols are not the exact ones you want. Just remember, this is SWG. It is your choice of what skills to get, to a degree that very few games match! Perhaps if you went up the skillset to get "your" DL44, you would love it so much that you wouldn't want to drop it. The increased speed and accuracy with said pistol would surely be something to enjoy, regardless if you are named Hna Sloo or Leilani Kir'lia.
Seriously though, as was mentioned above the 'be your own smuggler' comment has been taken to mean more than I intended. I'm not saying that those of you that idolise Solo should not try to be like him. It's just that I don't want the profession DEFINED by him. The profession is bigger than Solo. All I was attempting to say is that is we attempt to want things 'becaose han had it' then we do the profession we love a great diservice. As for the DL-44 being gimped in Pistoleer, how is getting a cersion moved to the master box and the corresponding jump in power 'gimping' it?
anyhoo..peace out..I'm not going to beat this dead horse further.
