I want a pony certed at master, and a flashy hat.
Seriously though, as was mentioned above the 'be your own smuggler' comment has been taken to mean more than I intended. I'm not saying that those of you that idolise Solo should not try to be like him. It's just that I don't want the profession DEFINED by him. The profession is bigger than Solo. All I was attempting to say is that is we attempt to want things 'becaose han had it' then we do the profession we love a great diservice. As for the DL-44 being gimped in Pistoleer, how is getting a cersion moved to the master box and the corresponding jump in power 'gimping' it?
anyhoo..peace out..I'm not going to beat this dead horse further.

Just wanted to add one more thing to the conversation here.
A few of you have pointed out that the DL44 should not be considered a 'smuggler' weapon. Any weapon that smugglers use will be a 'smuggler' weapon. Fine, any weapon that a smuggler uses will be considered a 'smuggler' weapon. I have no problem with that defination. But if you look at the EU description of the DL44 Blaster in the Guide to Weapons and Technology, you will find the following statement -
"Favored by gunmen and smugglers" - page 8 of the first edition book.
I would say that pistoleers would be the gunmen that the book is describing. But it also says smugglers. Smugglers favored the DL44. I would think then that saying smugglers should be certed for the DL44 isn't that far fetched. While not being part of Star Wars Canon, it is part of the Extended Universe.
In the end though, it doesn't sound like many smugglers care about this. Yes, the devs have given us 2 new weapon certs. But would it have been hard for them to give us the DL44 instead of one of these new certs? Would those against this be upset if it had the same stats as either the Renegade or Death Hammer pistol?
These are my 2 cents on the issue. Am I going to stop playing because the devs have given the cert to pistoleers, no. But I can at least let them know what my opinion is.

The DL44 is a pistol. That's all. You could call it a Human Weapon because humans use it or say that people born in June favor it, so it is a June Weapon. The only reason a smuggler in SWG would consider it a favored weapon is because having Master Pistoleer would increase their abilities with the pistols they are certed for. That in itself would make it favored by gunmen and smugglers, many of them being the same person.

I figured that would be the response. It says gunmen and smugglers, clearly making the distinction between the two. While some might be both smugglers and gunmen, not all are. That is why I think it's important that the book clearly says that smugglers favor the weapon too. If most smugglers who used the DL-44 were gunmen, then they wouldn't have pointed them out.
Ah well, everyone has their own opinion on this subject and I don't think any arguements are going to change anyone's views.

You changed my opinion of you. I think you are a reasonable person who has a good grasp of reading comprehension as well as good people skills, where before I had a neutral opinion of you from not knowing you. Thank you for that opportunity.
I was not meaning to imply all were gunmen, but in Star Wars, EU or canon, I have yet to see anyone handle a DL44 who was not a masterful (pun intended) shot with one. For whatever reason, I am led to believe that the DL44 is a gun requiring more skill than the average pistol. I think it reasonable to require a pistol forte to handle it, similar to the Master Commando requirement for the Proton Rifle.
I do feel that Smugglers need another unarmed option, however. Smugglers are tricksters by nature and should have a large variety of tricks to use. I am reminded of Ranger traps in that respect.

Thank you! I'm also glad to have had the opportunity to discuss this issue with you.
I can see what you're trying to say. The DL44 may be a weapon that is harder to handle because of its stopping power. For this reason, pistoleers would need experience before they tried to handle such a weapon because for them, they may want to play it safe and be experienced with their weapons, taking the time to learn how to handle the pistol.
But, on the other hand, if a smuggler is being hunted by a BH or is running from the law, I think it's possible that they would pick the DL44 since it's a more powerful weapon even though there was some danger in using it. One lucky shot from the DL44 may end the chase that much faster. As you said, we smugglers are tricksters by nature.

Ok so I was/am pissed about armor certs.. Why? Cause it ruins the "look" of my toon. I will not fight that battle..why? cuase its not all that important. Han was so obviously aMaster Pistoleer...How do I know? Watch a movie or 2 and you will see what I mean. DL is certed for pistoleer... would I like to have seen it certed for smuggler, sure. Will I fight for it to change, no. Why?? Because we have far more important things to push forcome revamp time. Lets not make an issue of the DL its just not worth it. If you want that gun go pistoleer. "Pick your battles" is an old saying and one I feel hold true in this case. Between major issues with the CU and our looming re-vamp fighting over a gun is really just not worth it. Just my 2 cents...

As much as I would like a black DL44 XT Master Pistol (I don't care if it is in Smuggler or Pistoleer).
What we realy need is a Pistol in the novice box.
