Would we be thiefing from other players?
Would it auto-aggro?
Would we steal money?
Would we steal equip?
Personally I think that crafting spices was more smuggler-ish than being a petty thief.
No thanks.

Uhhh...and could you please explain just HOW 'pickpocket' is related to SMUGGLING?
That was a rhetorical question.
It's related about as much as crafting frog bowls and non-functional gaming tables...or any crafting at all for that matter.
And we all know how I feel (or you can guess from the tone of this post)about Smugglers doing any crafting so you can infer how I feel about us picking pockets.
But you're probably right, I don't think I've ever seen this suggested before and that makes it quite original if not completely irrelivant to our profession.

smugglers are not theifs, we are SMUGGLERS. I will never understand this desire some have to turn the smuggler profession into the their/pickpocket prof. seems rather bland if you ask me.

Um... no.
I'm a Smuggler, not a pick-pocket, burglar, thief, drug dealer, etc.
(Tried to cover all the other non-Smuggler activities people have mentioned adding to Smuggler.)

My take is that we're the guy who knows a guy who knew a guy...
We're the fences, the fixers, the gunrunners, the trafikers, the in-between men. We're the Jon Voight character in Heat rather than De Niro. Someone wants something, we canmake it happen, but how we arrange it is nonof your god damned business. We're the respectable side of the criminal underworld - thesort of peoplethat might welltrash a cantina, but we'd toss the tender a nice littlegift to keep things sweet.

That's exactly how I play things. I get things for people. I do things the way the mob does things. I'm a respectable businessman, I'm generous, I'm friendly, but don't cross me, or you'll regret it.
But no outright stealing. If something "falls off the back of a truck," I will buy it and pass the savings on to you.

We are smugglers not thieves, sorry but the idea is a bad one at best.

I think it's been covered well, but my sentiment is also that I am not a Thief nor will I ever want to be in SWG. Any skills that push even our image into being that should not be pursued.

I'll be the odd man out here and say i wouldn't mind if we had a little bit of thievery skills. If i have to steal a shipment of weapons or spice to make a profit, so be it.
That being said, pickpocketing is a little bit petty, don't you think? That's something for small time criminals. I'm big time. I'll break into a warehouse so i can move the merchandise, that's respectable. Only thing i'm interested in pick pocketing is the keys to Akbar's Home One or Vader's Executor.

It's not a big leap of faith to assume Han Solo (lol) might have stolen I few things in his life.
Maybe some sort of /heist skill that letsa Smugglerloot more creditsfrom adead NPC then normal,(kinda how jedi get better loot%) after all we would know where best to look for a stash of cerdits hidden on a deadman. But that's a topic of discussion best saved for SGW 2.ATM there are far more important things to get into the Smuggler Profession.
