Thread: Slicing Questions
Alright, just got certed to Smuggler and so far I am really enjoying it. I do have a couple questions about slicing locked containers though.
Today, I boughtonly 3 locked containers. When I went to slice, it wanted me to either cut a blue wire, cut a red wire, attach some "mode" thing, and then attach a clamp thing.
Q #1) What does a mode do and what does a clamp do? Where can one obtain one of these? (bazaare, shops, etc.)
Q#2) Out of the 3 containers I sliced, I cut the red wire on two of them and the container successfully sliced. On another I cut the blue fire and it failed. Does one always cut the red wire first? Or is it a completly random process?
Read the FAQs too but would like to hear this info from some of you all.
Thanks
1) Flow analyzer node will tell you the correct wire to cut, 75% of the time. These can be made by a smuggler with slicing 2. It takes 20 metal and 20 non-ferrous metal per node, and they are used up each time.
Molecular clamp will tell you the correct wire to cut, 100% of the time. These can be made by a smuggler with slicing 4. It takes up 50 metal and 40 non-ferrous metal per clamp, and they are used up each time. Usually you can find these for 10-15k per crate of 25(depending on your server).
2) No, it's completely random, I've had a string of10 reds in a row, and a string of10 blues in a row (using molecular clamps).
I just reached Master Slicer a day or so back, so I can answer your questions.
When slicing ANY slicable item, be it a weapon or a terminal, you're prompted with several choices. A: Cut the positive, or blue wire. B: Cut the negetive, or red wire. C: Apply a Molecular Clamp (100% chance of a successful slice). And D: Apply a FAN, or Flow Analyzer Node (75% chance of a successful slice).
A novice Smuggler such as yourself does not have immediate access to either the Clamp or the FAN, so the majority of your slices will be guesses, and on that note I'll answer your most prevalent question. It does not matter which wire you slice first, as it is entirely random, every time, unless you're using either a FAN or a Clamp.
Though, if you've money as a friend, you can purchase either FANS or Clamps from more experienced Smugglers to aid your Slicing fancy. Crates of Clamps generally run around 10k, and I've never seen a FAN crate for sale, so I can't help you there.
Any Smuggler of any level can use both Clamps and FANS, it's only a question of getting them.
Also, once you're finally able to slice weapons and armor, you'll find that the outcome is as well entirely random. With weapons you'll either, on a successful slice, get a speed increase, or damage range increase. These are always in the forms of percentages. Percentages which rise with each level of Slicing you attain. With armor you have the chance to lower encumberances, or increase base armor effectiveness. Don't let anyone give you any grief, 'cause it ain't your fault if you don't get the type of slice your hypothetical customer wants.
