Thread: PowerUP Slicing?

Hey all, I'm a master smuggler and someone came to me today to have a bunch of weapons sliced. On his way, he asked me, "do you use powerup slicing?". I had never heard of this so I asked him, "what does that mean?". He replied that it was a way to increase slicing on weapons by using a power up on them. I had never heard of this and said well we can try. He had some powerups so we tried this.It didn't seem to make much difference in the slicing results. I had slices ranging from 17-31%. Has anyone else heard of this "powerup" slicing? Also, I have had people turn me away when they find out that I'm not using top quality molecular clamps and precision laser knives (over 90%). Does the quality on these two tools make that much of a difference? I have consulted with other Master Smugglers on Bloodfin, and they didn't think it made a difference. Thanks for all your help!

Yes there was a way of slicing with powerups to increase the results.

However, it is an exploit, so...avoid it.

As for tool quality, it does not matter one iota.

If they ask for your kit quality, feel free to point them here, and tell them to read the FAQ stickied at the top.

I've never heard of PowerUp slicing (hmmm tho, sliced PowerUps - LodekDall, I hope you are taking notes of this one). I might try some experiments.

The quality of knifes/clamps/WUKs appears to make no difference, or a negligible one at best. My advice is to get one high level of each and use it if the buyer demands to see the tools, and otherwise use the ones you usually do.

Conclusions after playing as a Smuggler since launch:

1) Quality of WUKs, Clamps, FANs, and Laser Knives does not matter.

2) Many customers do not know this.

3) Many customers will refuse to believe this even if you tell them.

4) Sometimes, people will just believe what they want, and there's nothing you can do to change their minds, so don't waste your time.

5) That "powerup slicing" technique was an exploit, and I believe a number of people were banned for doing it. I think you probably did it wrong, and I recommend not trying to get it right.

I'd never heard of that - evidently it was discovered sometime between me leaving and me returning.

Y dont they just fix powerup slicing? It's been that way for a looooong time. I'm really surprised they haven't fixed it yet.

btw.. this thread is going to mysteriously disappear like the last one did about 2 months ago lol

I think that they did fix it. The other day I was slicing and one of my weapons had a power-up on it, but as soon as I selected slice from the radial menu i got a message saying that I have removed the power-up. I'm at work and can't reverify but I'm pretty sure that this is the case now.

Powerup slicing isn't fixed?? Jeez... Well, I guess it's obvious I've never tried it! Never will either, no matter how vexing it is to get poor damage slice after poor damage slice after decent speed slice on my own weapons...

Power up slicing is still around, it was the double-slicing exploitthat was fixed and got people banned.

Double slicing involved multiple smugglers trading an item mid-slice for stacked slice mods. Never tried it, as it sounded really fishy.. turns out I was right.

Power up slicing does not involve other smugglers.. it involves a powerup. That's all I'm gonna say. I've sent several PMs to devs asking if this was an exploit. I assume it is, but havent gotten a response. Try it at your own risk.

Personally, if some bozo asked me to powerup slice his weapon I'd tell him to jump in a lake. Then I'd tell him I took a screenie and sent it to the devs. That'll shut him up.

The other day I was slicing and one of my weapons had a power-up on it, but as soon as I selected slice from the radial menu i got a message saying that I have removed the power-up.

I received this message as well.

So far I have sliced only one weapon that had a power up attached, and no one has asked me to "power-up slice" a weapon.

I have some ideas how this may be accomplished, but seriuosly, there is no question that this is an exploit.

Try this at your own risk...
