Thread: Shipwright is looking fun, but I don't want to give up Master Smuggler!

Its even worse than that. Master Shipwright wont be enough. You have to be Master Starfighter Engineer too to be competitive. Master Smuggler, Master SW and Master SFE is not possible (at least 257 points , depending on how much starter SW costs).
However - if rumours from Beta are true, they will fold Master SFE into Master SW and start it from artisan engineering 4.
Then you will have 37 points left .. Mastering WS then leaves you 26 points short. Dropping the spice and underworld trees brings you back to +3 ... so you have room left for 3 FS skill boxes.
Have fun

problem with that proposal is, as he stated, he'd have to surrender master smuggler, which he don't want to do.

I personally see no problem with this. You can no sooner master smuggler, weaponsmith and shipwright than you can smuggler, weaponsmith and armorsmith.
We have to make choices about what we really want to be.
Well yeah Caylin. That's the whole point of this thread. The problem is not wanting to give up Smuggler, and having Weaponsmith be useful. The problem is the Smuggler profession not going anywhere currently, and in fact going in reverse in some aspects. The problem is me losing faith in the Smuggler as a class.
So I'mtrying to get opinions from people about the choices I need to make.
Choose a side! Don't give the "we have to make choices....." line.... Have an opinion! Tell me what you think about the situation.

As much as it kills me to tell a fellow smuggler, especially one I've grown to respect over time, to drop the class, it happens to be my advice to you.
Smuggler is not headed anywhere positive, at least not anytime soon. We get frustrated and angry at how we're treated. We see negative changes to our usable skills with little or no warning or reason. We even provide feedback, have that feedback acknowledged, and then ignored. This profession, as much as I love it for its potential, is a gigantic waste of skill points when it comes right down to it.
One tree is useless unless you are a part of a faction in the GCW.
One tree is useless because the items crafted are no longer needed due to another class getting fixed.
One tree offers some money making potential, but is also no end to grief because of the randomness of the abilities. It is also more tedious thanks to the last patch.
One tree has 2 specials that work completely, one that works but is a hassle, and one that was changed into uselessness.
We have no documentation worth reading. One of our prereqs doesn't even make an appearance in our skill tree, and is again, a waste of skill points.
We cling to hope for a fix in our future, but that fix is so far off that you could drop smuggler a half a dozen times and get it back between now and then.
My advice to you, from a totally objective standpoint - drop smuggler and grab something that will be in demand, at least for a little while. If you really are torn up about doing it, then you have a desire to experience the new profession. If you don't like it, smuggler will always be here for you to come back to, and most likely will be in its present condition if not worse.
I apologize if anyone feels insulted by my opinion of this profession; its not my intention to offend anyone. I simply see a fellow smuggler who has a wish to experience something else for a while, and given that this profession is dead in the water, I see no reason to not go for it.
Good luck, man. Maybe you can build me a ship someday.
This is EXACTLY the post I was looking for. Thank you for being objective and looking at everything that I said.
I have since realized that the reason I do make so much money in Weaponsmith is because I slice my own weapons. Now, I could just take those weapons to a Master Smuggler and take advantage of the low prices that most of them charge and it wouldn't cut too much into my profits.
Also, recently my guild paid to get me to Colonel so I could help with buying and transferring faction to buy bases and turrets when we get back into the whole GCW again. So I guess I'd be kind of turning my back on my guild anyway if I were to drop smuggler. ![]()
SO... It looks like it comes down to two options:
1) Buy another account.
2) Unlock my second slot
#1 is never going to happen. And #2 is a very tedious and nasty grind. SO......
I think my character must remain the way it is for now.

One option you are not considering is to build a brand new shipwright character on another galaxy. This way you could keep your old character still. I did this to build my smuggler character and it revitialized my interest in the game. You also could use the opportunity to try a new species too.
Not only did I consider it, but I said this exact thing in the first post in this thread:
"Now, my other option ismake a new character on another server, and make him a Smuggler/Weaponsmith. But if I do that, I'm splitting my time between two servers and my guild suffers because of it."
