Thread: Proposed FIX to Feign Death

Here are some suggestions to please both Smugglers and the anti-smugglers on the view of feign death:

1. Put it on a timer.I think once every fifteen to thirty minutes would suffice. Now, before you go saying this is too often, read further down.

2. FIX the to-feign chance mod. As it is, a smuggler with dirty fighting 1 feigns almost as well as a master. Fix the mods and make them realistic to the level of smuggler you are. At dirty fighting 4, I would propose a 50-75% chance of a successful feign death. At master, 95-100%.

3. Make the smuggler appear as a corpse. It's not that feigning death in itself is what people hate, but the fact that you appear as a healthy, living person with that little feign death icon next to you. If you appeared as a corpse, not only would it make your attackers leave you alone, but would add much more dimension to the smuggler roleplay. If you look like you're dead, people aren't going to complain about feign death because, for all they know, you ARE dead.

Just some suggestions.

1) Timer makes no sense.
2) Chance is dumb. You get the skill at Dirty Fighting 1 and it's not a skill like Pistols or anything. You drop to the ground and pretend to be dead-- it's not a hard skill to learn, so I am not sure why this would be something that you get better at as time goes on.
3) I agree with looking more like a corpse.

To me, Feign is more of a PVE skill than a PVP skill, although I know it is used for both. So making the FD'ed smuggler look more like he just died would be better for PVP overall.

1. No Timer. Timers suck.

2. Every skill should be balanced over the LVLs.

3. I like this idea.

If this is supposed to discourage dabbling, can't we just move FD to Master Box?

I agree with moving it up higher in the skill tree...master would be fine but that's because I am a master.

Looking actually dead would be nice also.

I like the idea of making you appear as a corpse but I don't favor timers or moving it. It is pretty tough to get pistol xp without pistoleer and moving FD higher in the tree will make it even more difficult for a novice to level. I would much rather see the FD mod have greater effect so that the you improve on the skill.

As a tiered system, possibly have a successful feign for non-aggro mobs at the first level, feign for high level mobs at the next, feign for NPCs at third, and appear as corpse to players at master.

1.) I'd lower it to maybe 5-10 minutes minimum IF there were to be a timer. Though I'd rather not have a timer!

2.) I agree with this. It makes mastering more appealing.

3.) I agree with this too. Also add on that a Feigned Smuggler automatically breaks combat, and is not able to be wounded.

Why do I get the feeling that any change made to FD because of the PVP whiners will totally screw the PvE aspect of it?

But then again I am not supprised, pvp whining has always screwed over the players who only care about pve.

Never really understood this problem. If you FD in PVP and your alone your gonna get ruined gear and black barred. If your not alone and they are fool enough to keep attacking you their gonna die.

To be honest FD should work better in PVP then it does in PVE is a rancor think your dead its gonna eat ya not walk away.

It takes quite a few points to get even the basic FD your paying for 2 novice professions and a tree in each plus the smugglr novice. If thats the only combat profession you have (If your say an armor or weaponsmith) or just starting out and have no other combat elite profssion yet you really need the protection of FD early.

I don't think it's as simple as that. A novice smuggler may lay on the ground and be very still and use visual cues to prevent a through examination while a master smuggler may use a mixture of spices and drugs to suppress the metoblism and maybe even stop the heart for a short time.

It's got to be more than just laying on the ground and playing dead in universe with medical droids and clones. A Master Combat Medic and the experience that title represents of looking at mangled bodies and determining if they are alive and saveable would be pretty hard to fool by someone just dropping to the ground and pretending to be dead.

I like the original poster's ideas. It shouldn't be a no-fail get out of DB free card like it is now, I wouldn't mind a little risk.

I must say that I don't understand the timer argument. If the black-rot issue is fixed (via appearing as a corpse, etc.), why do we need a timer? If you succeed, you look like a corpse, and the attacker moves on: this is not the smuggler s/he's looking for. If you fail, then s/he shoots, stabs and beats you into an actual corpse. Issues with combat-stuck feign exploits are resolved, so there's no need for a timer.

I also disagree with moving Feign up to master. But a much higher emphasis on mods should be implemented. A novice should have a minimal/iffy chance of success, but only a master should have the success-rate we presently enjoy. This would encourage players to commit to the profession andcontinue to offer dabblers some use, but we'd no longer be the must-have exploit of the week.

Easy fix, have FD not work for PvP. In EQ, the monk has FD. If you pvp and FD, they still kill you. Is that hard?
