Thread: Do they just want everything to be easy?

Not a new realisation, just a summation of some of the things I've seen the last week or two. I'm really starting to think people just want everything for nothing. How about a short summary:

1. People do not want to live with choices they make. The TEF system, although flawed, is now eliminated because people did not want the risk of PvP when killing opposing faction or assisting their own. Now players will have to sit idly by while opposing players killtheir own at will. Playersrefuse to acknowledge thatusing illegal items is a choice to be made, and hopefullymeaningful consequences will some day come about for all players. They think they are entitled to the illegal goods and that acquiring them should not be any harder than acquiring regular items.

2. When seeking potential solutions to an extremely possible waywithin the new GCW to exploit the PvE only designation to farm faction. In order to cicumvent thefact that bases can be placed onplanets other than the big threefor opposing factions to farm with no bearing on the GCW whatsoever, the GCW correspondent proposed a system wherebase NPCs would be worth just onefaction point. The response by manyannoyed me a lotsincetheywould rather have the ease of sitting at a base than think of the greater good of the game. To make matters worse, people continued to complain about the cost of faction items. Why do people feel the need to devalue something just so they can have access to it? Having to work for something makes thevalue of the item worth more than being given it.

3. The "I don'tlike to shop around" discussion. Whilesome points to the argument have merit, Ireally don't understand why peopleare so selfish that theyfeel the need to get their items from one central point even though it will put a lot of crafters out of business, and diminish thework a lot of good merchants put intodecorating their shops. How oftendo these peopleshop for items that they cannot spend more time finding a quality product? I know the sytem, in some form, has a place in the game, but I really wonder about some of the people that were so angry that it got pulled for more internal development.

Finally, I sometimes question how long some of these vocal opponents have been playing. I know I remember the days of no vehicles, buffs, or super food. When it would sometimes take hours to run the two missions you got from the terminals, it took a group to take down any high level mob, and you would rarely come across a player placed faction base. All these factors made the credits and items accumulated in game more valuable than anything traded in game today. There was awe for players who were able to get anything above the norm.

I want the game to be challenging. I want the things earned in the game to mean something. I want the game to have meaning, and cooperation with others to be the greatest way to achieve your goals. What I will never understand is why anybody would ever oppose these things in game.

"Jedi claims of being "broken" are like saying "But my TV isn't widescreen! It's broken! My TV can't show high-def pictures in 1080i, it can only do 720i! It's broken!" Meanwhile, crafters are saying "We'd really like to have a TV that's larger than 12" and gets more than 4 channels and doesn't constantly lose vertical control", and entertainers are saying "Can we get some color instead of this B&W piece of junk?" And smugglers? We're listening to radio programs of "The Shadow" and "The Abbot and Costello Comedy Hour" and hearing FDR's Fireside Chats. We don't even HAVE a damn TV, much less a broken one or a "broken" one by Jedi standards. I'd LOVE to be as "broken" as they are." - The Legendary Solo4114

Unfortunately, that seems to be the general mentality. I'm not so certain it stems from a desire not to have a challenging game, however, and instead stems more from an inability to comprehend the overall impact of each of these things combined.

I really think most players just cannot separate what is live now with what things could be provided these types of changes were made.

At any rate, I hope that makes sense, I'm trying to remain vague

To answer the question from the subject in the shortest manner possible and ruin my 1337 post count - yes.

Even though I agree with the original post at least 99%, I'll leave my usual doomsaying prophecies to the others this time. Not in the mood. Bah.

Funny you mention how much easier everything has gotten, last night I was thinking the same thing.

I started wondering if in a year or so, they are just going to have blue frogs everywhere. Maybe eventually they'll even make blue frogs an artisan craftable item.

You'd load into game, run to the blue frog, and withing minutes, you're a master commando with full composite, buffs, and out soloing nightsisters.

the Devs stated goal when they started making the game was, we want to make the game as efficient to play as possible without ruining immersion. Originally this involved having NO buffs of any kind, because they didn't want combat to be something you had to wait for.

1337: *whining*

Devs : okay, you can have buffs.

1337: *whining*

Devs : So since you have to wait for combatnow we're going to hose the non-com profs to speed everything else up for you.

I might have to disagree with you here. I think the new non-TEF system is great. I'm not a die-hard PvPer, and I don't have the ub3rest armor/weapons to do it with. I know that there have been too many times that I've gone overt looking for a good battle, and have been ganked by about 1 overt and 10 coverts grouped up with that person. I believe that is the biggest reason to remove TEFs from this game. Group TEFs were killing PvP. People on my server rarely PvP anymore because of the group TEF system. I know I'll be PvPing a lot more often once this change goes live, but that's just me. Now, on the topic of "combatants" being able to just murder NPCs without consequence by another player, I agree. That is totally out of line.

2. When seeking potential solutions to an extremely possible waywithin the new GCW to exploit the PvE only designation to farm faction. In order to circumvent thefact that bases can be placed onplanets other than the big threefor opposing factions to farm with no bearing on the GCW whatsoever, the GCW correspondent proposed a system wherebase NPCs would be worth just onefaction point. Yes, this is absolutely ridiculous. Making NPCs worth a fraction of what player toons are worth would change the ENTIRE game. Seriously.

Actually, it was pulled in for more internal development because of the outcry that merchants in general made about it. The dev team seemed to agree that it was totally unfair to crafters/merchants to allow other people to just make the bazaar a "one stop shop."

Furthermore, if they ARE going to have merchant vendors searchable (but no 'instant delivery') there should NOT be sliced guns/armor/spice on the bazaar. Period. I think we should make it perfectly clear that is NOT part of what this game should be. I myself am planning on writing a thread in the best place I can think of on this. I have given it a lot of thought, and I don't think it's fair for people to buy their crap at the bazaar and run to the starport, thus removing any use for smugglers (if there ever would BE one) to smuggle stuff in and out of NPC Cities.

People are whiners, it's easy.

What I do is expect the absolute laziest, pathetic responses to changes being made, and that way, my expectations of the people are exceeded, or just met. I am never let down by the 1337 masses that play this game.

while annoying yes, i kinda actually do miss them. they created lapses of time where you could hang out with the other folks waiting on the shuttle. I had many a friendly duel (no DB) waiting on shuttles back in the day. now tho, i hardly ever miss one, and if i do, 60 second wait, no big deal. I remember running into the landing area clicking the droid and getting the "The next shuttle will arrive in 9 minutes and 50 seconds." hehe

I miss them too. And keep wishing for a system where there was an actual transport schedule and not all shuttles went to all planets. Where you would actually have to check those useless screens in starport waiting rooms (where there is no need to wait anymore) and see when the shuttle to your destination will arrive. Etc etc.

I want to spend my time playing the game, as opposed to dealing with things that are not exciting. Having to search vendors or wait on shuttles for hours is NOT exciting.

I love ya Axob, but this is whySWG is totally f***ed up. People want convenience over immersion in places whereit shouldn't BE convenient.
