Similar to the BH's - as compensation for all the nerfs we got and the postponing of the revamp SOE should at leastdrop the unarmed tree as requirment for smugglers!

Aye! This would be awesome. The unarmed requirement is only really useful for those who want to go onto to TKA. There are no benefits for Smugglers with regards to unarmed moves and even IF we were to get some moves in the revamp, they wouldn't really be usefl until we get speed mods from TKA (much like our Pistol special require Pistoleer to really be effective).

Sorry Gents - I disagree.
Smugglers should have unarmed skills as part of their repertiore - simply because they never know what sort of fight they're getting into.
At the moment we don't get any unarmed specials in Smuggler - I think that needs to change to reflect the fact that we're just as likely to end up in a bar brawl as we are in a gun fight.
In addition, I'd suggest a smuggler only melee weapon - a laser shiv, for those times when a blaster is just too loud

Hasn't this been gone over a number of times...
Biggest complaint I have is the fact that a bloody vibro knuckler is consider a bloody TKA weapon. A vibroknucker is something that a street thug uses...

I agree with BigLands. One melee profession and one ranged profession ought to be the prerequisite to a smuggler. I rather enjoy being a JoaT who can adapt to any given situation.
This has nothing to do with my current template. In fact, i even like our correspondent's suggestion of making the prerequisites to smuggler dynamic, i.e. Any one brawler tree and any one marksman tree.

I would much rather see unarmed moves added to dirty fighting than lose the prereq.

Sorry, agreeing with most everyone else here.
Don't get rid of unarmed as a prereq.

This is really a mixed issue with me.
I agree with the 'we should have unarmed, you never know what may happen' principal but ONLY in theory. I have said this 50 times: You NEVER need to fight unarmed unless you are a TK. Otherwise, I always have my trusty Auto-Bleed Republic on me. So because they moved the VK cert up to TK, Unarmed is useless to us without the addition of new moves.
HOWEVER, I think changing the prereq to something like Business or Engineering of Chef or whatever you guys want =), is stupid too. That means if you don't already have that skill, you lose your master UNTIL you learn it. That's just plain not fair. IIRC, what they did was removed *SOME* requirements from BH, but not all of them, nor did they change any...and thatfreed up a lot of SP. For us, if they removed Unarmed, we would still have to re-learn the new skill. It's just not fair for people to have to go and work hard again just to regain what they already had.
Example: Say you don't know about any prereq changes and you go on vacation, and they put it into effect...Various other things happen to you andyou come back to the game 3 or 4 weeks later and you are dying to play it. You log on only to find you are no longer a master? That just doesn't make sense and really sucks. Your opinion of SOE and SWG dips farther. You get really mad and quit. All because they changed the prereq! =) Ok the last three sentences were extreme cases but the rest is true.

I don't want to see that either, but remember the combat balance is going to be before the smuggler revamp. You never know what is possible.

That's true, somehow that actually slipped my mind. I guess we'll see what they have in store for us.

I agree, either give us unarmed skills under smuggler or just get rid of it

okay i have to say i am half and half on this one too.
1. i can see a smuggler definetly having unarmed and ranged skills to be successful.. it makes a lot of sense. even if we dont always use unarmed since its useless unless you go tka. and pistoleer is the more favored path helping with the speed and all.
2. i really really dont like the idea that it takes near 45 skill points just to get to novice smuggler. okay so professions that need similar prereqs. commado. okay i can see that. but they also have a pretty decent damage output with a flame thrower. bounty hunter. hrm. i played two master bounty hunters and damage output still pretty good. okay smuggler. i dont know about you guys but without pistoleer i dont know how i do it sometimes. last ditch is my friend. so we have all these skill points to spend on a proffession that for the most part we dont use for combat unless teamed with another elite combat profession. oh lets not forget feign death which only seems to work on npc type creatures and never in pvp since they can manully type their attack and get throuh.

i say punk the unarmed req. i never use unarmed. however, if they added stuff in smuggler that would help my unarmed, that would be awesome and i would end up using it more often. but honestly, who wants to see a TKM with more move and power then they already have atm? this isnt a rip on TK but im sure you can see my point.
