If you have to ask the question then you already know the answer.

I've played two Smugglers since launch. One is a Master Weaponsmith and 0-4-4-0 smuggler the other is a Master Smuggler/Master Pistoleer. I play solo and IMO without FD this would be impossible. The other reason to go Smuggler is slicing. Spices are now worthless because of the chef revamp and underworld is a complete waste of time.

The profession for profession's sake is over all dead...
Mixed with pistoleer the specials become OK
Spice - only high end spice will sell but for many of us spice is just not worth the effort atm.
Slice - a money maker but nothing to live off of. Many WS/Smugglers have vendors stock full of sliced weapons make the "street deal" rare.
Underworld - great if you want to sell faction points other then that pointless. (well I do also understand the Twi' dancers when they flirt with me, lol)
Dirty Fighting - over all nerfed to death.
Sowhy am I still a Smuggler?
The Community is by far the best of any forum.
The profession has so, so much potential and for the love of God after 2yrs how much longer can they put us off.
When I was a kid I wanted to be Han Solo NOT Luke Skywalker.
Smuggler as it stands atm in SWG is a calling not a profession.

smuggler is what you make of it, I dont PvP or sell faction , i am neutral, I slice occasionally for the public , but slice anythign and everything for my guild. Been a master for about a year and ahalf dont see myself dropping any of it . Smuggler isnt a choice, its a calling

Getting to Master Smuggler wasn't easy, living with the limitations is a pain. I'm a Imp Pilot (Colonel) and what I do mainly is slice (for mainly guildies) and fly overt to rack up fp to sell and buy bases and such. To be honest it took me a while to earn it, and I love doing it.
All in all it's not for everyone maybe you should try the Jedi Grind. You have to deal with ignorant (cheap) clients, know your spices sell for the price of Tylenol Asprin's now, and you don't btw actually "Smuggle".
I would take a long look before you commit, things may get better or they may possibly remain the same. Until the bridge JTLS and SWG for us, the smuggler in smuggler is not there.
Peace, love, and PLK's

That's exactly what I'm doing.
I have one Smuggler from launch and my other char was used as a Hologrinder. One of my Holos was smuggler and I stopped grinding over a year ago because of the promise of a revamp being right around the corner. Boy, what a mistake that was!!! When the Jedi revamp came outI began a grind that was more boring and tedious then grinding 32 professions. The false promise of a revamp delayedmy obtaining Padawan status by at least a year. Now that I am padawan,I needed to drop skills. Guess what was first. Master Smuggler, followed by Spices, followed by Underworld, and soon Slicing or Dirty Fighting. Slicing IV is worthless because of the STILL undocumented bonus given Master Smuggler (can't they just admit this already) Nobody wants slices from anyone who isn't a master. Now the FD nerf makes the choice less difficult. Which usless tree do I drop next?

well from the sounds of it you didn't grind 32 professions...having experienced both methods and know all the tricks to both unless you were one of the early luck 5-20 prof unlockers it wasn't easier. getting commando and grenading your way to pad is easy enough it just has the phase shift to keep you from going too fast supposedly.
as for smuggler unless you are looking to rp or have the cool smuggler image forget it as it isn't a real money maker or combat effective choice...me i stay smuggler cause all i know is pain

Smuggler isn't a choice, it's a calling.
If you have to ask if it's worth it, you've already started off on the wrong foot, as you'll find outthat it really wasn't what you expected, and will probably end up dropping it in the future.
If however you truly feel that Smuggler is the path for you, then by all means give it a shot.
Bottom line...Try it, don't try it, it's up to you. If you get in it and decide it's not worth it, you can always surrender skills and respec to a template that suits you better...
BTW...this is all coming from a guy with TWO Master Smugglers on the same server...
