Thread: 2 MAJOR Smuggler Issues: Cookie Cutter and Buff Competitors
The thing spices have going for them that people will soon learn is they are stackable on other buffs. That and there is no limit to how often you can take them after they wear off like food. Remeber you can only eat or drink so much. Only a doctor can apply a doctor buff so its not like you can buy them as a non doctor and pop them anytime you want.
Pistoleer is an overpowerd proffesion, you could just as well say that CH/pistoleer is a cookie cutter or TKA / pistoleer or whatever. I don't think thats bad for the game particularly because pistols are more in genre and they will take a big functionality hit when there are armourd vehicles and more bots in game, no pistol is armour pierce and they are limited on damage type.

There are 2 major smuggler issues that require a major reworking of the profession.
Cookie Cutter: Virtually all smugglers are pistoleers. If you want to be a smuggler with a combat role the hands down best route is pistoleer/smuggler. Because the pistoleer/smugglercombination has no logical alternative our profession is devoid of diversity. Suggestion: remove all pistol based skill mods from the smuggler tree. This change would probably also require the removal of other weapons based skill mods from other non-weapons based elite professions (e.g. Bounty Hunters). Alternatively allow any weapon proficiency to lead to smuggler and again remove all pistol based skill mods.
Buff Competition: There isn't enough room for 4 buffer professions in this game. Our spices compete with acertain elite medic profession(s) that give astonishingly powerful buffs. We compete with chefs whose sole purpose is creating and selling buffs. And finally, we compete with high level entertainers that can also give buffs (haven't comfirmed this, but read that some elite entertainers can give buffs if watched/listened to long enough. In my mind that's a pretty crowded field. Spice isn't selling like it should. Spices should be dropped or changed dramatically to add value. Suggestion: change spice so that it affects a person's skill attributes, like aim, alertness, etc...
OK..put down the crack pipe and step away from the keyboard.
Cookie Cutter: Smugglers get ZERO skill mods to pistol (which is why everyone is taking pistoleer in the first place). I guess what you want is that your specials work with any weapon. In which case everyone would still have the same template, seeing as two of the four smuggler trees require pistol exp to train. So, in order to make smuggler weapon independent, you would have to change the requirements to combatexp instead of pistol exp.
Buff Competition: I'm not sure why you think there isn't room for four buffers in the game. Each classhas different buffs, and with the exception ofdoctor, they complement each other. If I had a choice, I'd take a master doctor's buffs any day. Whosegoing to argue with+2000 to all non-mind stats for up to two hours duration with no ill effects? However, these are not easy to come by. You can't get a pocket doctor to carry around and buff you, and doctor's still can't buff mind. Most doctors are buying Muon Gold by the crate since they CAN'T buff mind. As for chef'sI think the full potential of their buffs has not been explored yet due to all the bugs with their profession. However, currently we are seeing that most of the chef's buffs are pretty worthless. The exception to that is Tatooine Sunburn which is +1500 approx to each Stamina and Strength. Again, Muon Gold or Neutron Pixie makes a nice complement to that. What about Entertainers? Well, from what I have read, Entertainer buffs (which I have only read about..don't know if they actually work) require staying in a cantina and listening or watching a master musician/dancer for several minutes. Apparently, this buffs mind for up to 10 minutes. I fail to see how this compares to spices, which can be carried with you and are instantaneous. One reason they don't sell as well as you think they should is because people are STILL not educated about the benefits. Once someone tries a tattoine sunburn mixed with a muon gold, I guarantee they are going to be hooked! I think the biggest problem with spices though is that the benefits are not worth the downtime for anything other than neutron pixie or muon gold. What needs to be done is to make the rest of the spices worthwhile to use as well.

i'd like a drug that is like reverse stimpaks. heals the mind while dropping either action or health, with no downcycle. as it is now, there's no healing against something that attacks your mind, and drugs would fit that description and make smugglers spice all the more valuable
Great idea! All those snipers would be sure to put out bounties on all smugglers if PC bounties were coded.
As for the rest of this thread... can't really say I'm that impressed. Pistoleer is needed because we need some combat, and since we've already got the pre-req, might as well get it.
And I don't see what the problem iswith "buff competitors".Don'tyou use doctors, food,AND spices all at once? You can getup to 4k HAM (I've heard of 5k)ifyou do. That doesn't sound like competition to me. That sounds like the beginnings ofnot needing to rely ona buggy feign death so much.![]()
Call me foolish but I always thought a smuggler would SMUGGLE something.
Wow - not going to repeat 'cuase Bush allready said most of what I was going to say - but though I agree with the stack benefit of spice being valuable - the downers are KILLING spice's value on the markets ! I can't GIVE away any of the lower end spices - the only ones folks think are worth a **edit** are Muon nd Pixe (I happen to thinks that downer aside, thruster ROCKS).
Still trying to raise spice consciousness levels on the Radiant server ![]()
I want a market - ANY market - tired of seeing all the other professions making $$$ but mine (your server may vary ) ![]()
What suprises me even more is that 90% of the smugglers out there seem to want to do away with the Unarmed prerequisite for smuggler. That kind of move will virtually guarantee a Smuggler/Pistoleer template for most smugglers unless they also modify the amount of pistol XP needed within the Smuggler Profession as well. That seems like a pretty radical change for the profession and I don't see it happening anytime soon.
Pistoleer is an overpowerd proffesion
-----end quote--------
w-t-h are you smokin hehe. the pistol is one of the 'least' powered combat classes, the most powered being rifleman, where all you need is on tree and then one profeession to literally kill ANYONE in the game in 2-6 hits dependind on wether or not its a PC or NPC. That is power. The reason being unlike health or action you can't heal mind wounds in a battle.
Pistoleer currently has overpowered aiming. Pistoleers can hit from almost any range as often as Rifleman, who can ONLY hit from outside of 45m. You also suffer much less from missed shots because you make up for it in quantity.
Yes, Riflemen HIT to the mind pool, but our shots DRAIN our mind pool. So unlike being able to spam /bodyshot3 and then heal up, once we run out of Mind Pool we are dead in the water. No style shots. The only viable Rifleman currently is Master Rifleman, but most aren't making it that far. In three days of off-hour playing I made it to Pistol Specialist on a new character without an grouping. Impossible with a Rifleman.
If you are going to complain about Riflemen, please try playing one for a few weeks. I waited until I played up some Pistol skills before really talking about how jacked Pistoleer is. And I haven't even gotten into any of the really powerful skills yet. As a Pistol Specialist with a DL44, I can kill things more effectively than with my Rifleman who is halfway up his trees with a T-21.
Okay, I got that out of my system. I feel so fresh and so pure. Ahhhh.
Now, as for the Smuggler being Cookie Cutter. . . I think that will go away, to a point, once Pistoleer gets brought back in line with the rest of the Combat Professions. It won't be worth it to max Pistoleer anymore with Smuggler. I'm actually trying out a Smuggler/TKA, since I have to get Unarmed anyhow. The results are interesting and fun. But I could think of other options. How about Smuggler/Commando? You could max both of those, in fact.
There are options. Smugglers are only Cookie Cutter right now because no one wants to try anything that hasn't been proven to make them 1337.
