Thread: My fellow Smugglers, please be nice and respectable to the Devs so they may come back!

I don't think our Smuggler luck has run out yet. We can still show the world that incessant whining is not the way to earn fixes to a profession or game mechanic. We have such good harmony on this forum that we should not give it up this easily. We worked hard for this, we deserve something better. If we maintain cool heads, it is my hope that GreenMarine, TH, Tiggs, Tyrant or any other Dev would want to have a nice friendly ongoing conversation with us for a long time. It doesn't always have to be about Smuggler, it could bea place for them to cool off and chill out. If we make a good atmosphere, hopefully they will want to talk with us. I seriously want us to develop a good rapport between the Devs. They know there are issues between us and they can see it anytime they look at the History of the Smuggler as written by the Devs thread. Lets just not bring it up and see if we can look toward a better future. If we all pledge here to be nice, and as in the movie Field of Dreams "If you build it, they will come."

Nice no. Respectable maybe.

Let me tell you about respect and the way I see it. The guys I had working for me respected me. Some hated me, some liked me, some had no opinion, but they all respected me.

I was hard on them all, but I treated them equally. I stood up for them when they needed me to, helped them when they needed it, and chewed them out when they needed it. I'd do anything for them, and they in turn would do anything for me.

You have to earn respect. Period. We earn our respect by being patient. We earn our respect by trying to think things through to provide them with as many options as posible. We show them respect by WAITING FOR A REVAMP OVER A YEAR IN THE MAKING.

How do they earn their respect? By changing our profession to favor the gameplay of others. By passing us over for promised fixes time and time again. By posting dismissive responses to valid questions (seriously, do they think they're that much smarter than us that we're going by their BS).

I'll give Tiggs and TH respect. They've earned it by being here a long time at the forefront. They're the messengers though, not the devs. Much respect to them for the overtime they put in (especially Tiggs constantly posting on weekends) and for having to deal with the ire of the community even though they are not the ones responsible for the changes.

The devs though... they can kiss my....

"Jedi claims of being "broken" are like saying "But my TV isn't widescreen! It's broken! My TV can't show high-def pictures in 1080i, it can only do 720i! It's broken!" Meanwhile, crafters are saying "We'd really like to have a TV that's larger than 12" and gets more than 4 channels and doesn't constantly lose vertical control", and entertainers are saying "Can we get some color instead of this B&W piece of junk?" And smugglers? We're listening to radio programs of "The Shadow" and "The Abbot and Costello Comedy Hour" and hearing FDR's Fireside Chats. We don't even HAVE a damn TV, much less a broken one or a "broken" one by Jedi standards. I'd LOVE to be as "broken" as they are." - The Legendary Solo4114

They were never really here to begin with. Respect and professionalism yes nice..not tell I see something from them. This profession is in fact the most poory designed and worst treated in the game and has been since day one and I for one am sick to death of it.

I disagree Zane. All the Devs see and think is that we are waiting for them to come here so we can hit them over the head with their past promises. They are gunshy and too timid to bother with us. They think they will get nothing but a flame war going here. So they just avoid the place entirely. This is most likely what led to the Feign Death nerf. Too scared to check in with us because all they were expecting was to get a headache over just appearing in the forums. Lets show them what a productive mindset can do. If you can't be nice, then they won't show. They won't discuss. Then when they avoid us too long and don't check with us, they willdo something odd because they avoided us fearing the worse and it only keeps the cycle going because we get all riled up again. We need to show that we are worth talking to. They may not have your respect, but it is breeding ill will because you broadcast your lack of respect loud and clear and it will never get anything productive going. Lets just sit politely and have a nice conversation so they will communicate with us.

Overall, the Smuggler community HAS been nice and respectable, communicated in a mature and constructive fashion, and really, that's one thing the devs more or less haven't done.

We've seen this before. They come in make one line responses then bugger off again before nerfing us again one month later. Cycle continues. The smuggler fourm will be up in arms about this issue till a few weeks after it goes live or till they change it back.

For a dev to come in here now would be virtual sucide. I don't even think our beloved Greenmarine would try it.

Give him back, he at least was attempting to communicate with us.

And the Devs know that the problem is probably on their end. They know they've riled us up. But we are not leaving them with a window or opening to approach us in any way. The only message getting to them is basically "Put up or shut up." They are definately opting for shut up at the moment. Its hard to show oneself after repeated mistakes. I know, I do them every day. Its embarrasing and all it causes are hurt feelings. If Smugglers insist on nothing but "what have you done positive for us today" then it may be a long time in the coming to see a Red name here. Just talking normally and not constantly blaming the devs in every other sentence will probably bring them back. They won't be afraid of us anymore and can talk with us constructively. By your last sentence, its obvious the Devs know the blame game is coming, so they won't bother with us at all. If we can avoid talking about blaming and past promises, I promise we will see a Red name here.

How about this, the next time they come in here with something more than a nerf or asinine excuses, I'll show respect.

The devs have earned zero respect from me. They make non Smugglers get recognised as smugglers and then try to tell us there's a difference. Hell yeah there's a difference, they get called a smuggler.

There's some pretty harsh things I have to say about them, their abilities, and their vision of Star Wars, but it's not respect for them that keeps me from saying it. It's respect for the other people on this forum.

Until they are willing to respect this profession though, they rate none from me. It's not just what they've done to our profession, it's the manner in which they've done it and the reasons why they've done it.

PS- The only red name that either has the cajones, or is allowed (yeah thanks Tyrant, we haven't seen GM the only dev who ever cared enough about this profession to sit down and listen to us for over 6 months) to post in here seems to be Tiggs. I've shown her respect and appreciation and I will continue to do so. Tyrant can bite me with his condescending, half witted, baseless arguments about how and why they make certain changes to the game.

Thing is, we've been respectful and nice for a loong time. Like right up to the Crackdown. And we were all peaches to GreenMarine the first AND second time around. Then they drop bombs like this on us, and walk away without even a "By your leave" or explanation.

They'll come back. When they wanna discuss something else. Besides, if we whine enough we can get other professions nerfed.

I have no respect for any red name.

It's my money which pays them each month.

I have seen no respect for us from them.

I have seen no real communication from them since GM was removed.

Basically, I have trouble respecting anyone who will proudly announce that they have nerfed us and add a smiley face =).

In closing, BAH !

If it's the most poorly designed and worst treated profession since Day One, why do you even bother playing something that's soooo broken that it doesn't work? That's just stupid.

As for the original poster, the Devs have already said that they will not respond to any threads that flame them and are immature. I have a feeling that they won't come back to these forums for a very long time -- and it's deserved based on the stuff I've read over the past two days from the immature kids who flame them.

Why do we keep playing? Because we're smugglers whether the devs say so or not. Because I've been fighting for this profession too long to give up on it. Because as broken as it is, I like at least ACTING like a smuggler.

I think now would be a very, very poor time for a dev to try and come back here. I can emagine any post by any red name at this point getting a few respectful responses followed by an avalanche of (justified) gripes. Apparently the devs are at least smarter than the BH and Jedi who can't figure out that we don't want to deal with them right now.
