Thread: How I soloed TWO Level 161 Nova Troopers...WITHOUT BUFFS!

As I have been saying in many a thread- I wanted to switch from the template I've been testing: Master Smuggler/Master Commando/TK 4000/Pistoleer 3000, so I landed in Coronet (after LBCing some stuff on Talus- like a level 8 creature that just would NOT go down!).
I hit the frog and dropped all my skills.
I liked the weapon choices I got from Master Commando and the DoTs that they cause are- well, you just can't live without them BUT I was lacking in a selection of Damaging specials. I could have tried adding pistoleer 4044 but I feel like pistoleer abilities are so close to our own it's kinda overkill.
So I picked up Master Smuggler/ Master Bounty Hunter/Commando 0400 ('cause I dig the Lightning Beam Cannon. You will find out why in a moment).
I did NOT get buffed ('cause I figure that is probably how you are most likely to find me in live) and I have Standard Rebel Assault Armor.
I went to the recruiter and joined the rebel special forces hoping for some action as I made my way past the Starport on my mount. No luck though.
Just outside of the city I ran into an Imperial Shuttle. There were 3 or 4 troopers @ level 30 and 2 level 161 Nova Troopers.
I hopped off my mount and was deciding if I should see how I would fare when they made the decision for me.
Only one of the Nova troopers and one of the level 30 guys came after me.
I rooted the Nova and hit the other dude with Critical shot- using the LBC. Keep in mind that the LBC is an AOE gun so I was damaging both guys.
The trooper caught fire (this sometimes happens when you get hit focused lightning from a heavy cannon) but I was taking a LOT of damage from the Nova trooper.
Next thing I know, I am on my back. The incap was REALLY quick though- like 10 seconds. I got up. Hopped on my mount and dropped back to heal and decide if I wanted to try this foolishness again.
I came up with a strategy this time and reapproached.
I got within range of my Lightning Rifle (about 60m) and popped the Nova Trooper with critical shot. He and two of the level 30 troopers came at me. Already my plan was falling apart because I only expected one of the smaller guys to come.
As they were getting closer I switched to the LBC and when they were in range hit the Nova with Concussion shot but he and the other two were really putting a beating on me. I threw torso shot a couple of times but the next button I hit was Feign Death.
Worked like a charm. They left me alone and I lay there and healed.
I got up and they didn't agro me right away so I tried my strategy again. This time the same troopers came at me but one of them was severly damaged- I think he was on fire from before.
I let them get in range and concussioned the Nova then started laying critical shots on the two smaller guys. The wounded one fell pretty fast. Then the Nova became unrooted and he and the other dude ran up on me and started hammering me.
Then It happened.
I used Duelist's Stance then switched to my proton carbine and started alternating shots between them- I hit the Nova with Confuse shot- then the Level 30 with the same. They got confused.
I hit them with Underhanded and they fell down.
I switched to the LBC again, hit them with Concussion and started poppin' them with Torso shot- They were bleeding and burning.
They both tried to get up but were too dizzy and fell down.
Then they laid there and let me torso shot them to death (The Nova trooper of course took a much longer time and I tried out all my weapons on them as they lay there).
WHOA! I'm gonna do that again!
So I went over to the otherNova and level 30 dude and I rushed them. This time with my Renegade in hand. I just wanted to lay the states on them as quick as possible.
I did Concussion, Confuse Shot andKD them with Firearm strike. Dropped back and switched to Teh UBER LBC and startedTorso Shot-ing them. Theybled.They Burned.
They each tried to get up once and fell back down because they were dizzy.
They died.
I should have taken pictues...
Oh WAIT! I DID!!!!
Idunno if the MOBS are working right- between the episode I had on Talus and this one. But I DO know I AM going MBH/Commando 0400- And the only thing I have to do conversion wise on Live is to pick up Novice Scout and respec the rest.

Nice! I could never get concussion and knockdown to work together, let alone see any advantage of duelist stance. I can't wait for all the skills to start working. I'm jealous

I've always been able to root with Concussion shot. I love it.
Firearm Strike almost always knocks down my target as well- I usually use this when they get too close. KD them and root them with Concussion.
The BH attacks were completely new to me.
Once confusion stuck (which was like on the second try) I used Underhand and boom they were on the ground.
I found the combination of Torso Shot with the burn side affect of the LBC to be AWESOME. Not to mention it was an AOE.
Looking at those two bleeding and burning (the effects/animations for these are FAR better than before) was cool as hell. Then they tried to get up and toppled back down with the little swirlies going 'round their heads. Heh. It was fun.
I wish they would have gotten up a couple of times though.

Again, very informative post. A question about the exploration line of scout though, all of my skill points are maxed out. I have Master Smuggler+Master Fencer 2-2-4-4 Pistoleer. Would it be necessary for me to do novice scout now; or would I be able to transfer pistol skill pointsinto the exploration line?

Nice. You ever tried Master Commando/Master Smuggler/Carbs 0/4/4/0? That's probably the best PVP template I've ever seen. I almost never lose with it! PvE is a different matter since it's practically all unbalanced... Though two groups from MC managed to drop an adolescent krayt a while back.

As far as Iknow- theyonly want you to be able to transfer novice for novice boxes and Elite boxes you can use for everything.So I don't think you would have a problem but I am hardly an expert. Especially since theyhave said they are going to changethe rules of respec (probably because they are inadvertantly punishing those who are Commandos or Bounty Hunters).
- In my case: I am a Master Smuggler/ Master Swordsman/ Pistoleer 0004/Marksman 0404/brawler 4040 18 points to spare.
- In order for me to get Master Smuggler/MBH/ Commando 0400 I have to:
- Justtransfer/keep the same boxes for Smuggler since they didn't change.
- Keepmy marksmanboxes as they are pre-reque's for Commando AND Bounty Hunter.
- Pick up Novice Scout with 15 of my 18 spare points (which I'll do this weekend)
- Transfer my novice 2-handed Swords boxes for Scout 4000 (I hope they will let us do that seeing as scout is a prereque for BH).
- Trade my Swordsman boxes for Bh boxes.
- Then switch my Pistoleer boxes for Commando boxes (0400).
I think that does it...I THINK! They will probably come up with some sh!t to prevent me from doing it though.

i think it was mostly a bug (as some NPCs that don't fight back for example)
most of NPCs that i tested get up almost immediatly from KD (even with dizzy or stun stacking)
