Thread: Jawa Fortress Idea. Please comment.

Ok... The Original post is now edited with some of the new ideas.

In response to an earlier thread, I finally deceided to check out the Jawa fortress recently and sell a boat load of junk. The credits are just a tad higher than Junk Dealers, but certainly NOT worth the trip. Truth is, this would be cool if they (they=Devs, who wasted their time on the first effort) did a few things;

#1- Up the credits given to a few hundred credits per item (100-500) at the very least, just to make a trip somewhat worthwhile. That way, someone who brings a bunch of junk (50 or more items) would net say 5-25k. Add Merchants to this ability of dealing with Jawas so more folks can partake without necessarily increasing Smuggler Dabbling.

#2 - The 5-25k mentioned above is essentially not that much, so the kicker is to have the chance that the Jawas will offer something other than credits. Maybe they reward you sometimes with a Locked Container or Treasure Map. Sure, you may end up with more junk, but it gives the chance of pulling a SEA or two. Novice slicers will like the ability to get more tins to slice and can load up on junk and bring it to the fortress and make a day of slicing and selling. :-) Master Smugglers & Master Merchants will have the greatest chance of getting a reward other than credits. Say you sell 30 junk items, you could sell them one at a time, or as a lot it won't matter, your reward will be a mix of credits and items. The chances of getting Items rewarded will be based of your skill. A Master Smuggler or Merchant would be equal in their chance to get Items rewarded. Combined, they max their ability to get these rewards. I'd say you get 5 'Wheeling & dealing'for each level you obtain in a given tree with another 5 at Master. That would give a Master Smuggleror Merchant a 25 at the master level. With Both Mastered, you geta 50, which would equal a 50% chance of getting a Treasure Map or Locked Container as a reward for each junk item turned in. That may be to high ofodds, but you need to Master two trades toget it that high and the numbers can be tweaked.

#3 - Ever notice how if you tried selling a higher end looted item to a Junk Dealer, it is worth almost as much as regular junk? Well, my 3rd idea is to have any loot items that falls into the catagory of rare/special (NS Lances, DOT/MOD Junk Weapons, SEA's, Non base line Componants) be sellable to Jawas for either higher end credits or Traded for goods. Say you have 5 NSLances that are not good enough to sell on the open market... well trade them to the Jawas and they will give you a choice of goods in return based on what you are giving them higher end credits or a Rare Item. Say they offer a choice of 25k or a Piece of Art that can only be gotten from them. Maybe they could offer stacks of resources, droids, new Spices, or odd ball furniture.
As with the Idea stated in #1, this is the level 2 of junk and the same rules would apply except you are dealing in higher end goods with the possibility of higher end rewards.

There would be two levels of Junk, the 1st are all those 'Broken' items, all baseline junk weapons (CDEFS, etc. except those with higher than base stats or that have any mods), baseline components (Blaster Couplers, Injection Amplifier, etc.), clothing and data disks. Level 2 is any looted items not in Level 1, such as Any SEA's (regardless of what type and mods), mod/DOT weapons, non baseline components, mod clothing etc.

No player crafted items, quest items, resources, or any other non-looted items will be tradeable to the Jawas (including no Unlocked containers).

The point here is to have the Jawa Fortress be something more than a joke. As a bonus, all those items that folks either delete or try to sell on the market that are low end or not too popular can be sold/traded to Smugglers/Merchants and they can in turn trade them to the Jawas for something useful or desirable. This would clear out the market of things that do not sell well, and provide a means of income to players who can get credits or resell the things they get from Jawasl. Hell it might ... OMG .... help clear up database space that seems to be causing the Vendor changes that are coming soon.

Fire away on opinions to this Idea....

The only thing I see wrong with that is it almost turns Smugglers into 'Junk Middlemen'. I'd much rather the Dev's focus on smuggling content than become Sanford and Son.

To be honest Malgg, I'm fine with that. I like the Idea of Smugglers being 'Junk Middlemen' as well as contraband smugglers, they are Jack of all trades type Merchants in my Opinion and this is right up there ally. I know it's not for everyone, but I personnaly would love it if it happened.

Best regards,

To tweak my post, I'd add that Merchants should also have the ability to Deal with the Jawas. Spread the wealth a little and give the merchant class some content. It's weak right now. Maybe they get less credits for not Speaking Jawa as well or something, but I could see some folks crying foul if smugglers got this ability to deal with Jawas and others could not. Opening it up may allow for less complaining and more content for other players.

Well......

I like the idea, perhaps make it so that after selling a certain amount of items to a single jawa he will give you a rare item for being a good customer...

I haven't been there in awhile but if I remeber correct there were specific junk dealers for clothing weapons etc..

So after selling say 20 items to the clothing jawa he will give you an article of clothing that cannot be found anywhere else. Same for the weapons jawa etc.

comments?

I wouldn't mind it if they made it worth my time to go trade with the little guys.

By the time I could drive there from the nearest shuttleport, I would have just as easily went to dantooine and ran several Janta missions for quite a bit more in credits. IMO, the ONLY way to make it appealing is a chance of getting a rare item in return.

I will concede that you have a point sir. I will also admit that the above poster has a point about working with existing systems.

Of course, at this point, Iwill take any additional worthwhile smuggler type content that I can get.

I agree as well with that poster. This is much easier to implement in the game. In regards to smuggling, yeah, it's not, but it's an outta sight kinda merchant stuff. Which is akin to Smuggler. I love the idea of gathering up all the junk I can find and selling it off to all those lil buggers for some hard to get items. To the poster who said about the different vendors, good point. Weapons to one junk dealer, clothing to another...etc. I think there are 3 or at the most 4 Jawa junk dealers there, if they each gave out items related to what they collect from you, that would be cool. Suffice to say, the rewards do not have to be uber, just have some rareness, value or usefulness. When the Jawa trading idea was put in the game, it sounded great, but it is a joke as set up and thats why it's not used. This is the FUN kinda content folks can get into if they like that sorta thing. I know I do. Combat is great, and there are plenty of places to find it at every level of play from fighting Kooks to Krayts. For this kinda merchant/smuggler wheeling and dealing, the game is sorely lacking. Give something to those not looking to fight ALL the time.

Dray

Sounds like a great idea. Smugglers are wheelers and dealers.

People need to start realizing that we have to work with the devs to create content from existing game mechanics. Creating entirely new systems is a much more difficult thing than tweaking existing systems.

There are missions in which you "deliver an item while hostiles attack you" in every profession. I still don't consider [Smuggler's Alliance] pilots to be Smugglers, nor 'Smuggling' - at least not any more than Rebel Pilots or Imperial Pilots might sometimes "smuggle", with a lower-case s - JFreeman - 10/6/04

Since they DON'T focus on smuggling content...why not try to improve upon the things they screwed up or added. Like the Jawa Fortress. I like these ideas a lot. You should post this on the Merchant forum and highlight the last part =P. The devs never look for alternate solutions to their less-serious-than-most problems like too many items on bazaars. They go straight for the nerf! Anyway, nice post, I LOVE this idea. I don't plan on being a junk middleman either. More of a "I can get something you might like if you give me something I know I'll like." guy! =P
