I think this is a great idea. It would be even better if this was how alot of the new special schematics and furniture items enter the game (after all Jawas are traders / scavengers they'd be likely to have a few goodies) ...


Smuggler could then be in the market of moving rare goods from Jawa traders to their buyers ... this sounds alot closer to a smuggler than anything we got going so far. (Afterall smuggling is simply moving desired goods...without concern for the legality of it)

Exactly! Well said, especially about noting the movement of desired goods regardless of legality. This allows Smugglers to MOVE goods. They HAVE to goto Tatooine to get the goods and most likely move again to sell it. Hell, make it a scanning zone around the fortress with slightly increased odds of being caught with Contraband. That will make it more of a RP'ing feature, and feel more like smuggling!

As the Ideas come in from you guys, or as I change my thinking on how to do this, I'll do a rewrite of the original post. I would love to get Caylin's take on this idea :-)

Very nice proposal Making the jawa trading /sanford minigame more robust certainly makes sense. I wouldn't object to something like this being added.


While it would certainly be nice to haveI guess everything plays second-fiddle in my eyes compared to the revamp I hope we get. If I hear about a jawa system revamp before that though, I don't know what I'd think

True, the Devs do work for us...but remember the constraints that they HAVE to work under. Nothing exists in a vacuum, and even putting in a new game system that is seemingly unrelated to anything else is bound to affect (read: break) something else. Which will then have to be fixed.


A modification is easier to impliment and can be done much smoother and faster than creating something from scratch.


And I would rather them work with us as to what content to add, than have them plop something new in that they came up with on their own. Again, the Devs work for us, their customers, and the hallmark of customer service is finding out what the customer wants.

To add a bit to this...


It needs to be junk items ONLY. Nothing player-crafted should be able to be given to the Jawas under any circumstance.


This then gives purpose to the junk loot you find, and not having a crafter grinding out 5000 of a component to sell to smugglers so they can turn it into the Jawas.


The more I think of this idea, the more "Star Warsy" it becomes. That's what Jawas are for in the SW universe. They're traders, looking for other people's junk to either fix or turn into something else so they can make more money. This would fit in very nicely.

There are missions in which you "deliver an item while hostiles attack you" in every profession. I still don't consider [Smuggler's Alliance] pilots to be Smugglers, nor 'Smuggling' - at least not any more than Rebel Pilots or Imperial Pilots might sometimes "smuggle", with a lower-case s - JFreeman - 10/6/04

You might want to consider the idea that the higher up in smuggler you go, the greater chance of getting rare items/good money is. This is to prevent people from dabbling and getting all the good stuff. A Master, of course, is the best. And *gasp* perhaps adding nuetral content for underworld!

Good point, underworld could be expanded to cover this wheeling and dealing. It's already establishes as the 'smooth talker' tree in it's justifications of the why and how smugglers get their faction bonuses.


Smugglers


Underworld 1 - +10 Wheeling & Dealing [ total 10 ]
Underworld 2 - +10 Wheeling & Dealing [ total 20 ]
Underworld 3 - +10 Wheeling & Dealing [ total 30 ]
Underworld 4 - +10 Wheeling & Dealing [ total 40 ]


Master Smuggler - +10 Wheeling & Dealing [total 50 ]


Master Merchants would get +50 with the points spread out or concentrated on one tree. Why only 50 in each? Well, The initial gains could be great but the difference could begin to trail off after 50. So a Master Smuggler could be very good and a Master Merchant could be very good but no one could beat a Master Merchant/Master Smuggler in Wheeling & Dealing.


If I visually represent the benefits of higher skill, It would look something like:


[ 00 ]|||||||||[ 10 ]|||||||||[ 20 ]|||||||||[ 30 ]|||||||||[ 40 ]|||||||||[ 50 ]|||||||[ 60 ]|||||[ 70 ]|||[ 80 ]||[ 90 ]|[ 100 ][ 100+ ]


with nothing gained with a skill over 100.


The only problem is that Merchants will need to speak with the jawas. While it's not impossible (Uncle Owen did it) how would the smuggler community feel in relinquishing a tiny bit of our smuggler empire to the Merchant Profession and allowing merchants to converse with the Jawas?


I personally don't have a problem with that and it's very justifiable. But in asking the Devs to allow merchants this ability, you are asking that as well.

Great suggestion!! I've incorporated it into my plan. I changed the skill amount given to a max of 25 per Master Level with 5 being given per level of a tree. With both Master Smuggler and Master Merchant, a player could get a 50 and have a 50% chance of getting an item instead of credits. That number may be still too high... but it's a point to work from. Sigh...I feel like I'm getting excited by this plan, and am energized by the positive feedback from other players, but I feel like I am wasting my time even putting the idea out there. I mean really, what are the odds the Devs will #1 read this, #2 be willing to implement some of it? I can truly hope they do, but I'm trying not to get too excited about it but it's hard cause this kinda thing is some thing holds my interest in a game. I love wheeling and dealing when I need a break from combat or minor crafting.
