Thread: SOE brought me to this

A couple days ago, when working at Hastings, I had a customer come up to me holding the Jump to LightSpeed expansion, asking if we had the original game on hand. I couldn't stand by and point him towards the game without telling him the shape the game really is in.

Step by step I told him the handful of things that were good and working properly in game, as well as truckload of what was wrong and why he shouldn't get the game, untill SOE gets its act together.

He was glad he found someone who knew about the game, even though the information about the game wasn't good. I told him directly that even though we were losing money by not selling him that game, that I'd rather not sell him something he's not going to like, and keep a customer, than to sell it to him, and lose a customer.

What's bad, is that I used to always try to get not only my friends, but customers who wanted a massive game. I used to be one of their most devoted subscribers for SWG, but now I'm doing what I can to keep people from getting the game.

Fix the game. Make it what its supposed to be. Don't just shovel out new crap for a quick buck.

I feel your frustration.......as do us all.

But it has been said that the devs are useing the next couple pubs to fixing bugs as opposed to adding content. It might push the smuggler revamp back a bit(if it is still in existance). But if that is the case, the fixes will be welcome. just have to wait and see.

What SOE doesn't understand is that the problems in this game go much deeper than bugs. It's great that they're doing bugfixes. But some of the systems we have are fundamentally flawed and need to be replaced, especially pertaining to the various professions, especially Commando, Ranger, Squad Leader, and of course, Smuggler. I don't classify fixing those professions under either new content (unless they add some sort of mission system to it) or under bug-fixes. I'd classify it under "System tweaking."

Pushing back something that fixes a profession because you're doing bugfixes is just not right...

You don't know for sure that he won't like it I've talked to several people who have only been playing for around 2 weeks. They've said it was one of the hardest and most fun games they've ever played and thoroughly enjoyed it. Who knows what tune they'll be singing later on down the road, but don't convince people not to buy the game. Assume they're an educated consumer and know the decisions they're making. This game still needs fresh blood and turning people away because you personaly don't like the game is a bad idea

And just to play devil's advocate. If you are still playing, why are you still playing if you don't like it so much

I didn't try to steer him away from the game. I did tell him there was a LOT wrong with the game right now. I didn't say that he should or shouldn't get the game. I simply stated its pros and cons, its not my fault that the cons currently outnumber the pros.

And as for why I'm still playing, SOE has not yet crushed all of my hope, as long as there seems to be at least one dev who actually tries, its still there.

I wish someone had told me how the game would be in two years

Still, bug fixing upgrades is what people have been asking for for the last year. This could be the first sign that SOE has actually begun listening to us. And if this is the case, some of the broken proffesion s might see the light at the end of the tunnel...

content is really just up to the players in this game. I've seen many failed attempts on my server, and now a friend is trying to start up some more smuggler content. I'll give him all the gusto I have left, but I just don't know how well it'll do.

It's sad that a game with so much diversity, appeal and potential is so lacking.

I am all for fixing bugs. This is something that they've needed to do since I started playing. Ideally, they should take one month out of every six and do nothing but bug-fixes until the game is clean.

However, this does not excuse them for lying to us about our revamp.

No, they've been all about fixing bugs for awhile now, it's just been bug fixes for one particular aspect of the game.

Sadly, nothing has changed. They have borked up so many things that to continue coding on top of it would be a catastrophe.

By them saying they're pushing new content to "long term development" tells me that there's either something big planned for the next expansion, or they're looking to trim down their roster. We used to get told there were seperate teams, even though all evidence points to the contrary. Now we're being told they're gonna fix bugs. They should have been doing a better job of this from the beginning.

This isn't about actually listening to players. It's about piling broken code on top of broken code and that will eventually catch up to you as it seems it has for them.

PS- If it really took them 2 years to listen to people asking for them to fix the game's bugs then we should be scheduled to smuggle sometime in about 4 years.

"Jedi claims of being "broken" are like saying "But my TV isn't widescreen! It's broken! My TV can't show high-def pictures in 1080i, it can only do 720i! It's broken!" Meanwhile, crafters are saying "We'd really like to have a TV that's larger than 12" and gets more than 4 channels and doesn't constantly lose vertical control", and entertainers are saying "Can we get some color instead of this B&W piece of junk?" And smugglers? We're listening to radio programs of "The Shadow" and "The Abbot and Costello Comedy Hour" and hearing FDR's Fireside Chats. We don't even HAVE a damn TV, much less a broken one or a "broken" one by Jedi standards. I'd LOVE to be as "broken" as they are." - The Legendary Solo4114

Lemme put it to you this way...if there was an expansion coming out within the next 6 months...you'd probably want to clean out your crappy code too.

Theed was a bustling commerce city...people hawked their wares, danced, laughed, dueled, and had a rollicking good time. Cantinas packed with Entertainers of every race, shape and size...along with scoundrels, Stormtroopers, and drunks. People grouped up and stuck together in the wilderness, and you ALWAYS took a Scout or a Ranger with you. We lived our own Star Wars saga. We created our own personas, our own histories, and it all blended into this wonderful, magical experience that I will always remember...

That magic is gone now, but I'd pay 50 bucks a month to have it back.

Editor's Note: The author of the above post has quit giving SOE her money. She suggests you do the same, because this game will never be what you want it to be.
