For me being a smuggler isn't a profession, or just a grind, its the life for my charactor. I strived to be a smuggler from launch and made master in early November. I made money from the some what useless spice tree (mostly selling muon) and flurished selling FP for both sides, but my income sky rocketed with slicing. Now almost a year as a master smuggler, the skimpy spice market died, fp selling declined (it is sometimes better to run faction missions) and now as of late slicing has even come to a near halt, and or combat abilities, what little we have are still useless.
I in no way intend to quit/leave/or drop the smuggler profession, I'm here till the end. For a profession that has so much potential, its a shame that we are left to be swept under the rug time and time again. We are looked down on in the community, although most feel our pain, and we are the unmentionables to the devs, though they say our time will come. We are quickly gaining a reputation from some for being thiefs and cheats.
While we waited for word on our revamp, the jedi got an overhaul. While we felt betrayed by the devs, the image designers got a make over. And while we begged for a hand up, the docs got our drugs. Yet we still sit here playing and waiting for our time to come. Our ability is taken to lightly, we add a max of 35 and 45% incresse to weapons and armor that last the life of the item, unlike the 3 hour max buff from a doc. When we can all finally head into space, slicing will die along with spice and fp selling, sure ppl will still play on the ground but like it is now.
Well I feel I've gone on long enough. Excuse my rants and raves, and flame all you want. But I feel that our time is coming to an end.

Well there you have it, as long as your character doesn't die, the Smuggler is still alive

Well, it's good to know that there'll be ONE smuggler sitting alone in our old hideout, happily whistling in the dark.
I don't plan to drop my tag, but I don't really plan on playing on the ground much anymore, either. Hope for a meaningful revamp died a long time ago, it's just been my own apathy that's prevented me from dropping my tag for something else.

I can speak from experience. I was one of the first handful of smugglers on Bloodfin, and I experienced all those tides come and go - in the span of 3 months. It grew old for me. I've dropped the smuggler profession *three times* because even though it's my style, there's little usefor it in a utilitarian sense - even the things we *can* do are outside our control, and often we get berated by ignorant people (who are sometimes even friends) because of a crap slice.
The bit of optimism I can add is that slicing will most likely not die with JTL.It will likely take a hit from the FOTM crowd, but there is actual high dependance on the ground game for base components such that slicing will be a continued requirement. As others have said, the combat rebalance will probably bring slicing back into the mainstream as things shift fully toward max-min for professions.
However, in truth, it's becoming clear to me - and apparantly hundreds of other people - thatone can only wait so long for a revamp of any sortbefore I start thinking that I'm just wasting my time (and money!).
I'm absolutely deadlocked in the debate of whether or not I should even *bother* going back to smuggler, based on everything that's happened in the past few weeks. I'm glad you're sticking with the profession though, the hardcore guys always manage to impress me with the raw zeal. It's a realdamn shame smuggler's been neglected for so long.

Smuggler isnt a choice ,its a calling. I mastered smuggler 5 months after launch, and will not drop it, no matter what. My smuggler will die when the game does.

Let me put it this way - unless I see a rough date for the revamp before the end of the year I'll be leaving.
Smuggler isn't dead, but it's very, very ill, and the Devs have tried ot have life support turned off on several occasions.
I'm certainly not willing to wait til midway through next year -the dev team should be ashamed of themselves for leaving release issues for ALMOST TWO YEARS before fixiing them
