Thread: Just finished reading one of the EU books the new rebellion

And it made me sad. Han had a pretty big part in the book about going back to the run and I learned alot of stuff about smugglers run that i didnt know, but the whole time i was reading it the smugglers were somewhat strong fighters and had ways to make money. they dealt in illegal goods that were profittable.
I look at the smuggler prof (I am only 0304 so far) and I dont see any of the romance of being a smuggler or excitement or even fun. I want to steal stuff and sell it, I want to haul cargo of illegal goods. I want to kick someone in the nuts and be able to run away if I need to. I want to go to smugglers run and play sabaac (spelling?) and maybe even make a credit or 2.
Basically I want the prof to be exciting and risky which it is totally not. how risky and underground is it to slice peoples armor and weapons? And whats the deal with faction points? From what I read smugglers didnt really side with anyone unless they had the almighty credit.
I guess my rant ends now not sure why I wrote it I doubt it will reach anyone who can actually make a difference.

The New Rebellion was an "alright" book. Really didn't leave me with much of an impression...*shrug*...but it's been several years since I opened it for anything other than reference. Maybe it's time to re-read...
Anyway...I agree with most of what you said, and it's not anything that hasn't been said many, Many, MANY times before in this forum.
However, I do want to clear up the highlighted portion...
Smuggler doesNOT equal "thief"...mostly you'll find that Smugglers take offence to being called "thief", "crook", or any other conotation of the word...it's insulting and degrading...

Sry if i reposted old gripes I am very new to the prof. Also the new rebellion is the first one of the books i have read so if it isnt that good I cant wait to read more 
And the thief thing kind of was out of context . I wouldnt want to steal from other players but it would be cool If u could "hustle" npc people out of some goods. Also I just bought the "corellian trilogy" tonight is it good?

Ok...as one of the resident EU experts in this forum, let me set you on the right road to EU enjoyment...
First, start with the original Thrawn Trilogy by Timothy Zahn (Heir to the Empire, Dark Force Rising, Last Command)...
Then, read ALL of the X-wing novels...starting with Rogue Squadron and going through Starfighters of Adumar...
After that, read the Hand of Thrawn Duology (Specter of the Past, Visions of the Future)...
After you've at least read those books, you can start on the New Jedi Order...and you have to read those in order, otherwise you'll be extremely lost...
If you want to fill in more background before you hit the NJO, you can read The Han Solo Trilogy (by A.C. Crispin), Rogue Planet, Courtship of Princess Leia, and several others...
You can skip: Darksaber, Children of the Jedi, Planet of Twilight, The Black Fleet Crisis Trilogy...for the horrible storylines and questionable writing styles. Several things are briefly alluded to in the NJO, but not so much that you'll be lost. You can always fill in the blanks later...
Personally, I'm trying to muddle through some of the Prequel-era and Clone Wars era novels. They just don't have the spice that the after-ROTJ books have...*shrug*...ah well...

Thanks for the tips man I think the used bookstore that I got the corellia trilogy at had all 3 of the Zahn books. I know he had the first 2. What part of the time line is it in?

I dunno Dreven some of the prequel novels are spice filled.Beru Lars: Fleshwrap Funtimes is almost too much spice for anyone.

And if you like those, don't forget I, Jedi. One of my favorites, though the First Person style messed with me for a while. Not used to that in a SW novel

I would definately agree that anyone should start out with Tim Zahn's "Thrawn" Trilogy, but if you don't want to be as confused as I was in the time-line, you'll have to pick up Dark Horse Comic's "Dark Empire" trade paperback too.
Personally, I was not a huge fan of the X-Wing books, and would now say that my second favorite series is the New Jedi Order series, excluding the thing that I really hate that happened to one of the characters in one of them. Anyone whom has read the series will know what I'm referring to. I would think so anyway. I wouldn't recomend jumping straight to the New Jedi Order though. There are a lot of other good novels and comics before you get to that.
As for the prequel novels... I sort of agree about the lack of "flair" in them. Although, right now, I'm on the Medstar duology and I'm really getting into it.
Final advice: Read as much of the EU stuff as you can. I'm sure that you will really like some of the things that other people say suck and hate some of the books that others like. I haven't found too much to be upset about in any of it that I've read.

The Thrawn Trilogy falls 5 years after ROTJ...

Yeah...I'd agree that the Dark Empire comic might be helpful...though I never read it and eventually caught on to the minor allusions that are made in TTT. It's actually alluded to more in the Jedi Academy Trilogy than in TTT...
As for the X-wing books, that is my favorite series...moreso for the Wraith series than the Rogue series...can't beat Aaron Allston as an author. I'm glad he's finally getting his shot at a Star Wars hardcover in the post-NJO era...it's about time. And Starfighters of Adumar (X-wing #9)...FUNNIEST book in the EU...
And I'm definitely with you on that one event in the NJO...I literally threw my copy of SbS across the room...it was highly upsetting...
However...Traitor earned a spot as my favorite EU book (note the quote in my sig)...too bad the authors that followed Traitor dropped the ball on developing Jacen further...
Glad to hear about the Medstar Duology...I picked up both of the Medstar books at Sam Goody a while back...I just haven't gotten around to reading them yet...still trying to get through Shatterpoint ...

Shatterpoint seemed like it took me a while too, but I wouldn't mind seeing those guys with the forearm vibrators as characters in SWG. Seems like they could be someone for the Jedi to fight with besides Bounty Hunters. They seemed pretty bad.
I did think that the X-Wing books were ok, just not my favorite. There are so many though, some were better than others and I never got some of the later ones. I'll have to try and get around to that one of these days.
I would like to see the SWG team take some more time to be truthful to the EU though, when possible. One thing that I'd personally like to see is the large statue of Anakin Skywalker that was built by the locals after he became the first human to win the (Boonta?) Eve Pod Race. I'd like to see that bar there too with the characters that were described. I wouldn't be too surprised if there is an expansion called Star Wars Galaxies: Expanded Universe.

I did not like The New Rebellion. The Han Solo Trilogy (by A.C. Crispin) is superb.

Thrawn has 6 books and they are all good. Stackpole rights good SWs to. NJO is good, but if you have read the other EU books the syle and darkness will throw you off.
