Can you believe it? I'll let you recover from your heart attacks before I proceed.
All better? Good.
Hold on to your britches kids because I almost....and you'll never believe...GOT PAID TO "SMUGGLE" SOMEONE PAST CONTRABAND SCANS!! Wild right? Yep. I was in front of the Cornet cantina shooting the breeze when I get a relative newb asking me where stuff was, how stuff works.
Anyway, one of his questions was, "Where can I find a Chef trainer?" Well I told him to try Player Cities because a lot of them have all the trainers right by the shuttleport to help attract business. He says, "Ah, I was hoping there was one in town. I know there's one in Kor Vella but the Storm Troopers keep smacking me down." Now he's not Overt so I could only conclude that he kept getting spanked by the contraband scans. I mean, he's looking for a chef trainer of all fricken things. So I tell him,
"Well, we master smugglers are quite adept at circumventing those scans. I'll tell ya what. You group with me, and I'll walk you through town. 5k plus a round trip ticket."
"You guys can do that? Wow, I didn't know that. I would but I don't have any money."
I was SO close to actually using a borked skill and getting paid (even if a small amount).
By the way I posted this in the Chuckle thread but...Nah, this is news so big I feel I need a whole thread.

Would it have worked? I mean, would being grouped with you helped him evade scans?
If so, way cool. Now all we need is for contraband scans to happen more often. hehehe

Yup...
How do I Evade Contraband Scans? (Smuggling)
Thunderheart- Novice Smugglers with “underworld” abilities will have a 15% chance to evade contraband searches plus an additional 15% for each skill box and Master Smugglers add another 20% for a total of 95%. Players in both the wilderness and cantinas may avoid shakedown searches if grouped with smugglers for the same bonuses. In order to receive the smuggler bonus from being grouped with the player the smuggler must be within range (35m)

I remember when the Imperial Crackdown was published...had walked around Storm Troopers without getting scanned. So I figured my 95% was working...
I went to Coronet and (then populated) Theed spamming 10k for newb planets plus roundtrip ticket, 15k for mid-level, and 20k for advanced worlds.
I feel like sucha fool...................

It's always worked that way...no one cares though. No one wants to really avoid them.

Ooh cool, since nobody care evading the scans I didn't saw that. Thanks.
Soo the potential for us to smuggle peoples is there, all that is missing is a reason for peoples to do that. Too bad, would really be fun.

Yep. And we told them that. I mean HALF the population won't want it because they're Imperial and don't care anyway. The neutrals don't care because they're out a truly paltry amt. of credits (unless they're newbs) and the rebels don't care because they like the fight. /shrug
AND it doesn't happen that often ANYWAY.
AND we were told that they couldn't check everyone's inventory for contraband right before they started scanning everyone's inventory for contraband. Go figure.

Of course would you honestly feel like you were "S"muggling
if you were just walking around grouped with someone. It just wouldn't feel like much to me.

Some do, My smuggler I am not worried about, however I have a Reb character that I just started and he got killed because he was in the middle of an Imp city and got scanned and discovered as an covert reb. I was then immediately descended upon by sqads of Imp Troopers who proceeded to r*pe (metaphorically speaking)my character in the most vile ways. It was truly the most ugly spectical to watch. My poor noob character trying to fight back in utter vain was just sad.

I was happy to see the line, "you have succesfully evaded the contraband scan" yesterday. It made me feel like my master smuggler abilities were actually helping me. Actually I have never been fined or caught with anything, guess I am just that good of a smuggler.
