Ok guys and gals, I need your thoughts on what's gone onto TC today; I'd like your feedback on Smuggler issues with the patch.

Namely:

GCW

  • Imperial crackdown presence has had their firepower DRAMATICALLY increased

Please keep the thread on topic, and take all your fun and banter to Nick's thread

Don't know if you saw this(http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=in_testing&message.id=36731#M36731), but today they reduced the firepower of the crackdown again hehe. I haven't gotten on TC today to see what they mean by decreased.

But yesterday I was on when it was dramatically increased and in citys there was nothing changed, was scanned with in minutes in espa, had inventory full of sliced items and spices. Evaded scan with Master Smuggler.

Someone did find a group of about 5 Storm Troopers 900m out of Theed, there was one normal HAM ST and then the rest were 100-200k HAM storm troopers. I drove by them a few times but they didn't scan me. So it doesn't look like much was changed that I could see besides the higher HAM Storm Troopers in random spots. I was really hoping that it was some new crackdown content too =/.

Scan team outside of bestine cought my non-smuggler rebel this evening... 6 (or maybe 8) of your standard stormtroopers, 1 colonel type and 2 100-110k ham black and yellow jobs that are on the vette. Wasn't really expecting it and lost my mind too fast to keep myself healed and alive.

I need to play more to get a feel for things to be able to judge if its still too powerful to not be fun (in this case I need to know I at least have a chance at escapig to bother to do anyhitng but lying down and taking the free trip to the cloning center)

I would have liked to see more changes by way of numbers and not brute force, or better ai so some stay in range instead of just run right into my AOE, as well as some new style checkpoints, but all in all I think the change right now is for the better not the worse.

Yes more numbers then HAM, more HAM doesn't mean more fun. At least they aren't the 200k HAM storm troopers today. Defintly changes to their AI is a big must for the crack down to really be something to fear.

Right now all they are doing to make them tougher as we see on the corvette and in the crack downis just make the HAM go up and make them shoot harder. Still the same combat tactics are used as the normal 5-10k HAM storm troopers, get them all with in range of you andif you are agroed by them all and area attack, just takes more time that isn't fun.

I have been spending the past hour or so on TC trying to get scanned or find an already landed scanning team.... no luck.

I THEN spent about 15 minutes talking to a dude on TC trying to explain how increasing the Crackdown will actually create a "law" that we are able to smuggle in. It is amazing how some are so resistant to change. I hope the devs really do this right!

I am asking friendly here: How is adding more weak Stormtroopers going to help? You say yourself that all you have to do is "get them all within range of you and if you are agroed by them all and area attack."

My knowledge is that as a defense stacker, you can be surrounded by 20-30 ST's and still survive to kill them all. Obviously, your argument for more numbers comes up short, I think.

What is appropriate are ST's who are sufficiently dangerous to make running your first choice. This can be accomplished with less than the 200k HAM ST's, but you and I honestly know that ST's need to be tougher if they are going to be administering Imperial law on actual players.

Furthermore, you claim that all a HAM increase changes is the amount of time you spend area attacking them. How can this be so if their firepower is increased to the point that no player could hang around 10 ST's for any extended period of time??? No player should be able to stand toe to toe with a regiment of Stormtroopers.

Perhaps now you realize why their firepower must also be beefed up.

The STs deffinatly need to be strong, if the imperial crackdown is going to be something to fear. Sounds like they were doing a pretty good job, the other day.

In addition, their numbers should be increased.

For anyone wanting to check out some of these scan teams first hand, there are two scan teams at 7424, 5966 on Naboo. It is approximately 2.3km southeast by east of Kaadara.

One team consists of a single 100k HAM ST with medium armor rating with medium resists. He is complimented by 11 6-8k HAM ST's with no armor rating and one 6k HAM officer.

The other team consists of a single 14k HAM ST with light armor rating with medium resists. He has got a team of 10-11 6-8k HAM ST's with no armor rating and no officer.

The second team apparantly has problems taking down packs of butterflies.... instead of crushing them with their Imperial boot. Come take a look (on TC).

Yea, well, word is on the street that they are only spawning 14k ST's now, because they have weakened the Crackdown. These scan teams seem to have only one tough ST, with about 10-11 normal ST's. That is if you call 14k tough.

That isn't much tougher than the STs already in game, is it?

I'm novice pistoleer/dirty fighting 2, and I can take out a couple of the current STs without armor or buffs before they get me. They should be murdering me at the point I am.

I think 20-30K HAM sounds reasonable for the state the game is in right now. Very few sentients in the galaxy should even consider standing against a squad of the Empire's elite.

They don't have to be as weak as they are now but they don't need to be 200k and in groups =).

If the AI was better it would be alot more fun is all I'm saying. I agree players shouldn't be able to stand toe to toe with everything in the game especially "the law", that is why they are changing the combat system. But that is just the way the system is right now, and it is only going to be into play for another couple months probably.

But 100k HAM is alot better then 200k so it's looking better.

My sentiments exactly. You speak with a clear mind.

I have just come across a scan team in the wild (2.3km from a major city) that only contained one 14k HAM ST and 11 regular ST's. This is a bit on the weak side I think. 100k HAM seems just right if there is only going to be one tough ST in a scan team.

I would say beef them all up. Each member of the unit should have around fifty thousand HAM,at least light armor, and moderate to medium resists, with the "leader" of the group having medium armor and medium resists.

Then, add in the ability for NPC Medics to heal other NPCs, add a moderate medic* into the group and you got a winner.

*No visible armor worn, no armor rating, moderate resists(30% and thereabouts)
