What you did was completely fair. There's no rules against fooling someone like that. I bet from now on he'll use examine on every non-jedi just to look for the "Has Mastered the BH Profession badge" 
He he he he he, I use the same tactic almost. I just sit in the Star port though and wait until my mark has a second incap through dueling.

Once in theed, theBH puts up aslicing shout macro, pretending to be AFK, and watches his opponent duel, figuring out his template and fighting style as well as learning that he is the same faction as the Jedi. Eventually, during one of the duels, he breaks his AFK cover and nukes the Jedi. He then deathblows, collecting the bounty. Several minutes later the Jedi sends a stream of hate tells at the BH (no specifics/SS, unfortunately).

BTW, out of curiousity, does the template work well for you overall for most of your marks? I'm building upa similar template except mine so far is headed towards MSmug/MBH/Medic 0020 witha +17 healing eff BE undershirt. Well without the heal I find myself running and FD alot, as for Jedi marks I have to use my head once I was in the group with my mark as we grind out exp on Dantooine and I had to watch my attacks and make sure I did not do an area attack. As for Boss marks I use droidsand rooting and healing up and then going back in. I used to bea Master Smuggler/Master Rifleman/Pistoleer 0404and a T21 with Last Ditch was nice normally did over 4000 damage but I wanted to try some BH.
In short, I do see how you would need healer to keep up in a head to head fight. But there is more to fighting then heads on... after all we know this from destoring the Vette for our Master Pilot mission.
