Thread: [PETITION] Slicing a specific stat.

Smugglers should be allowed to pick what type of slice to give to an item. What would be the wisdom in not allowing you to slice it the way you want it? Do you see any other profession with this problem? Do you see Scouts getting a random resource when they harvest, do you see Doctors getting a random stat when they buff. No you don’t.

I agree but I also disagree. It would make sense that a slicer SHOULD be able to pick, after all he has done this many times and you would think he would know what he's doing. I.E., chipping your PS2... the guy doing itisn't going for better graphics or better performance, he's going for whatever it does: period.

However allowing us to choose IMHO takes the fun out of it. I got a huge sense of satisfaction slicing a pal's Berserker for 32 or 34% (can't remember) for damage. It wouldn't have seen as cool, save fore the %, if I had chosen damage.

OTOH it can affect our credits intake. I made so much money off of slicing 10 weapons for a guy and NOT getting a good slice. However I've also made a lot of money slicing one item for a person and it being a great slice. A slice is a slice is a slice. They can take thier mediocre slice or bring me something and I'll slice it again. We won't always get great slices, but I make my money doing multiples for people who want high slices. If they are willing to spend it I'm willing to do the work. However if we chose, we'd be slicing only 1 or two items for people and getting it every time and it'd probably be for a flat fee. I usually let people choose what they want to pay me... 'lucky' good slices would net me BANK.

Maybe they can make it, and someone already said this, low percentage chosen slices, or random percentage unchosen slices. Know what most people will do: random, because they want that shot at the 35%. Screw those guys who spend 2mil on a Geo and get an 11% speed slice. Hey-- that Geo is now 11% faster because of me. Hey that sucks, but I'm not the one who spent 2mil on the blaster. SLICING IS A GAMBLE.

So as much as it pains me:

Leave it as it is.

I do think however they shouldimplement a new percentage range for Masters. For weapons, let's say 85% of the time you hit between 10 and 34%. 14% of the time you hit between 35 and 39%. 1% of the time you hit between 40% and 50%. I think that'd be awesome. A once in a blue-moon 50% slice for Masters. Realistically you are bound to produce a masterpiece at some point!! Since the 50% would be so rare, it wouldn't de-balance the universe with 50% sliced Geos or T21's. That's how rare itshould be. And if a client wants me to slice 150 T21's to get that 50% slice... so be it. =)

For every one "Oh cool you got the slice you wanted!" I've had... I've had 20 dissapointed customers. And it's not that they're always rude, or angry or yelling... they're just dissapointed, and you can tell. It sucks leaving the customer unhappy so often.

It might take a little bit of the special tingly feeling you get on a great slice, but I'd rather be able to choose.

I Agree, However, if a decision should be given to the person slicing a weapon, it should be a Master Smuggler and not Slicer IV. its a simple task getting to Slicer IV but Master Smuggler takes some time and effort. Not only would i like to see a Damage or Speed Option but there should also be a Direction slice for terminals, im sick of searching for 2 missions in the same direction.

hehe.. jus for fun there should be a bank terminal slicing option, slice a terminal and get lucky and get a certain percent in bank funds increase or decrease(like a gamble). If you get a decrease you should get attacked by imps or something like that. hehh, Hell have the terminal shock the crap outta the person slicing it ... Just A thought

This is an argument as old as when the first smuggler in swg was able to slice a weapon. yes it would be nice to get to be able to choose what type of slice the item gets but i just have a feeling if the devs give us that ability they will take something away. i feel really bad when a WS brings me an uber krayt enhanced or acklay enhanced wep and they end up getting a 18% speed slice. oh well, no use to get worked up about it, let's just see what the smuggler revamp has in store for us

So would ranomizing what stat gets buffed by a doctor be "fun"? No, it wouldnt. Just as its not "fun" here to spend tons of money on getting the slice you want. How good the slice should be based upon the slicers skill. I cant think of one other profession in any MMOG that has a random skill like this.

Are you actually saying its a good thing that its random because you make more money off your customers because they have to keep slicing? Are you crazy?

Randomness is a balancing factor, dont mistake that.

If you get this prepare for the nerf bat to swing our way in the area of difficulty or lower percentages

If your slices are in need of a nerf, they are in need of a nerf whether you can pick what stat you slice or not. Removing the randomness in what gets sliced does not change anything. Except someone mightactually be able to get what they pay for instead of spending MASSIVES amounts of money to get a set of armor sliced the right way.

First off: Slicing and Buffs are apples and oranges. I don't get why everyone is comparing them. For 12 or 15K you expect a minimum from doc buffs. For slicing you are only paying like 2 or 3K, at least you used to...Were Ionly paying 2 or 3K for doc buffs I would have no problemin them being random.I used to let people choose what they wanted to pay me for slices. If I slice 3 weapons, totally bad slices ofwhat they don't want, they can give me whatever. However when I did good, people usually were quite happy and gave me tons. Nowadays a smuggler will slice if they want money. That's me so my rates are still reasonable. However I don't spam a macro at Coronet. If a smuggler doesn't care, they don't need money, they will charge 10 or 15K per and if they get a lucky sucker so be it.

<<How good the slice should be based upon the slicers skill. I cant think of one other profession in any MMOG that has a random skill like this.>>

THAT I agree with. As a Master I think I should get a higher average slice.

<<Are you actually saying its a good thing that its random because you make more money off your customers because they have to keep slicing? Are you crazy?>>

Not necissarily. As I said, I used to let people choose what they wanted to pay me. I required that I get 'something' for it so they could still totally stiff me and give me 1k, but that would have been my fault for not specifying. Most people aren't like that. Is it my fault I makemost of my slicing money on crappy slices? Not at all. If people are willing to pay me a whole lot for 1 chance at a high slice, that's ALL them. They wouldn't come to me if they didn't like it.

/Psuedo-Disagree

I would have to say that this should be a Master Smuggler skill and it should require another tool or a change in the Flow Analyzer Nodes. I do not think it should be a 100% gaurantee that you'll get the slice you want, just a 75-80% chance.I think bringing the minimum slice to 20% for Master Smugglers would also go a long way in making Slicing less disappointing... even a speed slice can be a good thing, unless it's 15%

I think that by making it a Master Smuggler tool, that does NOT have a 100% success rate we accomplish several thing. First, it's still random, but you are increasing your chances. Two, you wind up with more happy customers, three we have an excuse to charge more... "I can get a better chance to get the slice you want, but it'll cost you a little more..." I don't think the "pick-o-slice" should be a gaurantee, by any stretch of the imagination.

Also, please, for the love of God keep tool experimentation out of slicing, the lastthing I want to dois spend my time andeffort making 99%tools, then spend my time getting 99% effective Upgrade kits from an overpriced Weaponsmith or Armorsmith

/disagree.

Slicing is all about hitting it with a hammer, or banging it againt a data terminal.

It is Jury Rigging, not scientific development.

I love it being random, the best compliment I ever got on my galaxy forums was someone saying that they always use me for thier smuggling needs as I "have that slightly dodgy air about me that I may stich him up at any second". This to me is what being a smuggler is all about. Then again I am a roleplayer and do play Mojo as the quitisentual smuggler, hell I even took luck and persuasion as my force skills just because they felt right for a smuggler.
