I have been a floor merchandiser for Sam's for 2 years. Tonight (11/12) was my last night on the floor for Sam's. I was moving to 1-Hour Photo as a Technician tomorrow/Saturday.
But, that was not meant to be. I was canned tonight...the day before I could move positions. Fired. After two years of bullcrap (11/9 was anniversary), just got a new raise, bought new pants and a haircut today for the new job, and was moving to the new position tomorrow that could earn me a $1.50/hour raise in 90 days.
Wednesday night, a Member came up to me and told me he had been waiting for 30 (thirty) minutes on a couch. I radioed to the other guys what was up adn they said they couldn't get the couch down from the steel because they needed one more spotter for the forklift (policy). So I told the dude I would take care of it. SO, I helped spot the lift and the dude got his couch in 5 minutes. I was promptly chewed out for leaving the Electronics dept., nevermind the fact that I helped the Member get on his way before you had to wait a full hour.
End of the night came around and we were leaving, I was outside talking to my best friend about it (who also got chewed out for trying to learn how to run a register when it was the wrong time of night for it......apparently) and about the time I said the phrase "Sometimes I just can't stand Sam's", this stupid little Check Out Supervisor walked by and heard me. I had trained this girl not 7 months ago before she moved to COS...she's dislectic even and I walked her through how to do her job easier. Well, she friggin snitched and I was canned for a "bad company attitude" even though I denied denied denied.
Sam's Club sucks worse than SOE. This is how they've treated not only me, but my friends who have worked there and most likely the employees that will work there in the future. If you care about someone that you know is looking for a job, DON'T send the to Sam's and if you hear they're going there...warn them that they treat their employees like dirt...for real. If you'veheard Wal*Mart sucks in that regard, you heard right.

Wow that really sucks sorry to hear that. I'm gonna go Cancel my Sam's Club membership, get my full refund and go to Costco!! I'm not kidding either. For those of you who don't know Sam's Club has a Money back Guarentte. If for any reason you aren't happy they will refund you your cost of membership. I recommend every smuggler got get their Sam's club refund and go get a Costco Membership.

Personally I would fight it. Company's can't just fire you for something like that. They have to give you a warning and if you have had a clean record with Sam's Club for the past 2 years like it sounds, you can fight to get your job back. Also contact the local paper and TV stations they just love stories like yours.

yeah..every company is scared that if you don't get 3 write ups on the same thing..they won't terminate you..believe me..i worked loss prevention for 2 years in a retailer. anything short of stealing would not get you fired. look into it man...maybe you could get something for it.
One more then..another reason why NOT to shop at Wal-Mart...they ruin small towns and everything!

Yea that type of thing can happen... I've never gotten fired, but a couple years back I had recieved a suspension for some totally bogus bullcrap. I served it and came back to work. I wrote a two-page statment on it, andwhy it shouldn'thave happenedand eventually it was overturned. The worst thing was this suspension was only my second write up I had ever gotten there. That was about 1 year and 8 months of me working there; in that whole time only one other write-up and even that one was pretty bogus. The whole purpose was to split me and this girl I worked with apart, because mostly we were just hanging out (but still getting the job done perfectly fine). After we got back from the suspension they moved her to another department andabout 2 weeks later I got moved up to projection (this is a movie theater I'm talking about). Of course sometimes managers like to write people up just to remind you they are in charge and of course, better than you. If Sam's Club has an HR department I'dget to them immediately if you want your job back, especially if you've been a good employeefor the previous two years.
Where I work, we talk sh!t on our company and high brass all the time, including with and about the brass that actually works there... sometimes to thier face. It's all in good fun of course, but even still I don't think anyone can fire you for that. Usually it's just something like 'hey buddy, watch the attitude'. It shouldn't be'you're gone pal'. No one is ever 100% satisfied with the place they work, in fact it's probably abnormal to be 100% happy.

Don't know aboutin the US, but in the UK I'm thinking you could easily get compensation for wrongful dismissal

Word of advice for everyone out there...
STAY AWAY FROM RETAIL...
I worked for a regional grocery store chain for 6 years...and it was like the 11th level of hell. I eventually quit when they decided to pin some bogus crap on me and tried to demote / transfer me to another store.
Sam's sounds only slightly better than that...maybe the 9th level of hell.
But yeah...retail sales and customer service type stuff in general SUCKS.
Now, I have a nice Computer Tech position, where I only have to deal with 50 end-users, and I report to one boss. Yeah, I might be slightly underpaid for my position, but considering I don't have a college degree hanging on the wall (everything I know about computers, I taught myself), I figure I'm doing good. Plus...I get great benefits...and most importantly, I'm HAPPY with what I'm doing...and there's no amount of money to compensate for happiness.
Ok...I'm done rambling now...

I've never worked retail. I've done call center tech support for 3 years now. Underpaid is an understatement for the BS we go through, I'm serious. I can't imagine dealing with people IN PERSON and getting paid less than this @_@

Further support for my hatred of corporations. I worked at Cracker Barrel for 6 years. I detest that place. It got me through undergrad but at almost the cost of my sanity. There is so much stupid crap that goes on in work places. And all for what? Money. They pretend to be providing a service to the community but its all about money.

Thanks for the support!
Me and my grandpa have schemed up some good stuff. So far, 7 people I work with at Sam's that support me and myself are writing and calling the District Manager and telling them what happened and how it was wrong and also about the appaulling moral problem and working conditions.
I don't think I'd get my job back even if I wanted it, but hopefully something can be done for the people still there.

Yes, then spread nasty rumors!!!!
Seriously, I can't stand "power trippers" like that. In the Military we have a lot of those, they make rank and think they rule the world. Like I tell my troops though, there is ALWAYS someone bigger and badder who will outrank you. You treat others like you want to be treated, and if I catch you flaunting your position I will put you in the most god awfull details I can imagine,...and put the lower rank guy in charge.
Granted it apparently doesn't work that way in retail, but there is someone over the guy who fired you. And I bet that guy would rather keep things on the DL rather than have the media find out how they treat employees. Go get em'!!!

Just hope that she doesn't spread her own little "nasty rumor" to you.
