I thought that would get a few of you more unsavory types in here.
Thinking outside of the box ( yes we all like to play in the sandbox but add some water and make it ocean front property ).
Master Smuggler, Master Pilot: The skill to land and launchyour shipfrom discreet locations. I just risked the Kessel Run. I have a cargo hold full of illegal goodies. Of course the first thing I do is land at a Intergalaxtic starport.
The Hideout: You know that shabby, rundown place. That we all love to call home. The dirty socks, the empties and lets not forget that frilly item that was left behind by the sweet little number from the Theed cantina.
Ok Gents and errr Ladies??. Just a few ideas to kick around. Please direct all kicks at ideas and not yours truely.
Add, expand and do what ever your illegal little hearts desire with these.
The servers are down. What can I say. As Sister MaryMonster use to say " Idol hands are the devils workshop " Thank you Billy.
Kath Mandu: Starsider
Of course I shot first. What do you think? I'm stupid?

I was really disappointed when I learned that all ships have to land at the space station. What smuggler that has half a brain would dock their ship at a star port when their cargo hold is full of illegal items?
I really like your idea aboutMS and MP players being able to land elseware. It would be nice to have some low key places to dock your ship.

Eh. I can live with it as long as I have the tools and talents to get around the pesky security.

HAN: I've outrun Imperial starships, not the local
bulk-cruisers, mind you. I'm talking about the big Corellian ships
now. She's fast enough for you, old man. What's the cargo?
BEN: Only passengers. Myself, the boy, two droids, and no questions
asked.
HAN: What is it? Some kind of local trouble?
BEN: Let's just say we'd like to avoid any Imperial entanglements.
HAN: Well, that's the trick, isn't it? And it's going to cost you
something extra. Ten thousand in advance.
LUKE: Ten thousand? We could almost buy our own ship for that!
HAN: But who's going to fly it, kid! You?
LUKE: You bet I could. I'm not such a bad pilot myself! We don't have
to sit here and listen...
BEN: We haven't that much with us. But we could pay you two thousand
now, plus fifteen when we reach Alderaan.
HAN: Seventeen, huh!
Han ponders this for a few moments.
HAN: Okay. You guys got yourself a ship. We'll leave as soon as you're
ready. Head out to /waypoint 3456. 7856 and I'll pick you up there.

LUKE : We came here to hire a ship and you want us to walk halfway across the planet?
HAN : Look kid. I don't like flying from spaceports, never mind that landing anywhere other then a registered starport will have the Empire on you like a bothan on a can of Pal.
I think we should have the ability to land in other places then the rest of the crowd but I'd rather not have it be everywhere. Jabbas palace, certain areas known for smugglers...not just punch in a waypoint and land there instead.

Rylan - you bring up a really good point that I never thought about. In addition you would almost have to land the ship in a star port to get the supplies and repairs that you need. But it would be nice to have some specialports only know to the seedier inhabitants of our galaxy.

Totally Agree here, extra landing sites would be nice, but not just anywhere.. Smugglers break the law, but don't really want to get caught at it Landing in teh wilderness = "Hey, I'm avoiding the starport! Come get me!"
Rebels on teh other hand.. well lets just say I wouldn't ever expect to see a rebel Xwing parked inthe Imperial Starport.. simply cause they don't like getting captured, so it would be SAFER for them to land in teh wilderness, course thats a GCW issue, nota smuggler. I just hope If I take up rebel pilot it won't stop me from landing my YT1300 in a public place ![]()

I always choose to land my ship in the highest Imp controlled area when I have illeagal goods, its great for business.....
hahaha.
I think the plan is to have smugglers get higher scan avoidence and such, to compemsate for this slight discrepancy in reality

I like that. Maybe have a couple of the not-so-savory locations to land in, but you can't get standard repairs/upgrades/whatevers at them, only at registered starports. I don't think that giving us a higher chance of evading the scan will cut it -- we ought to be able to avoid the scan by avoiding the STARPORT. Duh! Hello?? Is anyone listening? =P Oy.
Just my rant. Not feeling well tonight and needed to take it out on someone. -_-;;

When we found out we were getting pushed back, a few Rangers stopped by to show support... saying they understood since they're in the same boat. So, I went over to their board out of curiosity.
Their revamp proposal is calls for modular camps that have different functions. I was thinking of suggesting a module called "landing beacon". A smuggler could hire a Ranger to go somewhere potentially hostile in advance, have them clear a LZ and place a beacon that would allow the smuggler to land in the camp. Perhaps require crafted components from both smugglers and rangers (and possibly others) to make the module expensive. Not the kind of thing you'd want to see used all the time.
That waywe couldn't just plop down anywhere (I doubt the Emperor would take to smugglers landing in his front yard), but we would have the ability to get close (as close as no-build restrictions allow).

Very well thought out idea Iniaes. You should post this into the revamp thread that green marine started.
