Thread: My fellow Smugglers...

If you are one of the people on this forum who hasthe knee jerkresponse of thanking the devs every time they give us bad news, this post is not for you. You can thank the devs for pushing our long-promised revamp to 2005 somewhere else, but I ask you kindly to leave that nonsense out of this thread.

I am talking now to the people who actually care about the Smuggler profession, and are upset over all the developer dishonesty, the misleading statements, and the game of "raise their hopes then shoot them down" the dev team has played with the Smuggler community since launch. While many of us will surely quit over this, even they can help us make our point.

What it comes down to is this... enough is enough. We have taken this mistreatment for way too long. We have to do something.

We have to make a statement that lets every single player in SWG know how upset we are. We have to voice our displeasure with all the lies, whilemaintaining cohesionwithin our ranks. We need to show a united front when carrying this off.

We need to let the devs know this is not acceptable, while at the same time letting the rest of the playerbase know why we are so upset.

I'm sure there are other ideas on what we can do, and I would love to hear them from you, but what I propose is this.

Never wear your Master or Novice Smuggler tag, under any circumstance. Never slice anything. Whenyou receive tells asking for slices, politely apologize that that we - the Smuggler community - are not slicing anything until our profession is fixed. If the person is upset by this, explain to them how many times we have been lied to by SOE and Lucasarts, and what we are trying to accomplish by refusing to play the insulting version of Smuggler we currently have at our disposal. Tell them you are on strike if you have to.

I believe we would gather the support of other professions this way, but you are sure to get some angry responses as well. If you get flamed, just put them on ignore.

Leave your vendors up, but empty them, ordo not restock them. I chose to pull mine up entirely, but you could be just as effective by letting them slowly die out. Put no spices up for sale no matter what. Place a single item onyour vendornamed "Out of Business Until Smuggler Revamp." Change the name of your house or business to CLOSED UNTIL SMUGGLER REVAMP. Let people know who are looking for spices that there are none to be found.

If you are quitting the game, change the name of your house to LEFT GAME DUE TO SMUGGLER REVAMP DELAY, or something along those lines.

Make a post on each server's forum trying to enlist fellow Smugglers to participate in our walk-out on the Smuggler profession.

Basically, what I am suggesting is wemake some noise. I know the only way to really get the devs attention is to quit the game and hit them where it hurt, but that has been happening already. For some odd reason, neither SOE or Lucasarts seem even the slightest bit concerned. Apparently they have been so focused on fixing the Jedi profession for the .000000001% of the playerbase that will ever get to play it, they have yet to notice that all their servers are rapidly emptying.

Don't just sadly drop Smuggler profession and move on to another prof, or just stop logging in one day and move on to another game, because that lets the SWG dev team off the hook. They want to keep your business, but if they are going to lose it, they want you to go quietly.

I know I will get flamed by the smarmy apologists on this forum who gush their appreciation every time the devs nerf us, delay our revamp, our outright lie to us, but so be it. Their opinionmeans nothing to me. As I said before, I am only talking to the true Smugglers who have long held out hope that someday the devs would fix our profession, and are now faced with the reality that if we don't change their minds this time and soon, our Revamp will not come until 2005, if ever.

We might not be able to succeed, but at least it is doing something. At least we can go down swinging.

It's a last ditch attempt, but you never know, maybe we'll land a lucky shot and get the dev and playerbase's attention.

Anyone with me?

I, even though im not a smuggler, am behind your ideals 100%. But you have one LARGE flaw in your plan to be heard. While you are closed to business, the greedy fools are gonna step up, master smuggler, and then start chargin outrageous prices under the 'who else is gonna slice it' excuse. while you are being heard, your gonna screw up one part of player economy. I still stand by you all the way though. i just feel you should do this in some other way...

I haven't been a smuggler for long butI agree 100% but as GalacticIdiot said there will be some smugglers that will still slice and make spice. so we have to do more then just not slice to get the Devs attention, Maybe a planed protest on all server?(like the wookies)

Like many others, I'm not so upset about the delay as much as the fact that the Devs could have told us at the first delay that they really thought of smuggler as a space profession and as a result would like to do the revamp after JtL. If they had done this it would have gone a long way. I can understand only wanting to "revamp" the smuggler profession once and it makes sense for this to happen at or around the expansion, but not coming out and saying this is just wrong. Also, I can understand the need to fix the Jedi system. Hologrinding has ruined the game. So many people are pursuing their own little Jedi goals, that the community on the servers has gone down from the first days of the game. It's hard to find many people dedicated to their profession anymore. At least with the quest system, it sounds like people will be back to keeping their professions and interacting and forming a community again. All these things do not excuse the devs from not simply coming out and tell us the truth or showing us proper respect by looking at our revamp realistically earlier and saying "Hey smugglers. We want to give you space skills and balance out your profession with this in mind. To do this we need to wait until the expansion is released". If they had done this, I'm sure that there would be nowhere near the unrest that currently exists in our profession. They did not do this though and I take that as a lack of respect for the community from the devs. I am edging ever closer to simply leaving the game because it is just that, a game. I play a game to have fun, not to deal with a lack of respect from the people that run the game. Heck I've walked away from people who were once friends for that and will have no problem with doing that with this game.

I currently have 3 more months of left on my subscription however. I will watch and play with my friends during that time and see how I feel after that to decide if I leave or stay. While I am here though, I will remain a smuggler and help support the other smugglers however I can. Just let me know the time and the place and I'll be there for any protest or whatever (as long as I'm not at work since I work evenings). One thing you have to figure though guys. For every smuggler that reads these forums, there is one or more that doesn't. The non-forum readers will go happily about the business not realizing whatis even going on if a strike or something else happens. As a result if anything is going to be done, word needs to be spread through the servers as well.

That's a very good point. A revolt/strike is a good idea, but there that downside.
