Thread: 25k per slice

After reading a few posts about how slices are cheap I sat inthe Coronet Star Port last night for about 2 hours, had my slicer tag up for all to see.. I did 7 slices and made 175k. There were a few people that said no way .. but I still did a fair amount of business. I am not telling people to over charge here but when a doc beside me was shouting "50k gets you to the front of the line" I didn't feel too bad

I completely agree. Only dummies charge less - especially if they are master smugglers. But hey! If their time is that invaluable - oh well.

on the rare occasion that I slice free-lance, my prices are as follows:

10-15k per weapon slice

35k for a set of Ubese sliced

50k for a set of composite sliced

Usually accepted well, rarely at these prices do i get complainers.

Hey if they paid you then.. good for you. Its up to the smuggler and customer to decide on the price.

Why would anyone pay a non-master 'slicer' 25k for a slice? LOL, those are some really dim customers IMO.

Way to go m8 - we need to hit the glass ceiling on this and start getting true value for our services... (the buff example is extremely relevant!!)

I'm not master yet, so I have been charging 5K (lower price for reduced potential quality), and was going to move to 10K after I made smuggler.

I saw a M. Smuggler advertising 4.5K per slice in the Cnet starport last night - maybe he was desperate for money, I dunno, but I was surprised that he was charging so little? Maybe it's time to raise the price overall?

Actually going to a "slicer" isnt that bad of a thing. A slicer can get up to 30% max on either speed or damage. Given thata lot ofpeople have multi millions of credits and 25k is a 5 minute mokk/janta mission its not that bad. Sometimes just getting something sliced a little higher is better than hunting for a master smuggler to get maybe 5% points higher. Comparison on a made up 200 max damage weapon:

200 max damage weapon gets a 30% damage slice = 260 max damage

200 max damage weapon gets a 35% damage slice = 270 max damage

So the diference is only10 points(yes it would be higher on better weapons). The difference is not that huge and most of the time us master smugglers get slices in the 20-30% just like any "slicer." Its all a matter of how much the customer is willing to spend.

ps. I am a master smuggler and of course would not go to a slicer and would never pay 25k for a weaon slice

If they paid you, great ... and please take this at face value and nothing negative. I think that is over-priced (at least for me). Historically, I have been the most expensive Smuggler on Intrepid for various services, and have tried to guage what my time is worth and to charge accordingly ... although I am able to make $300k+ per hour in solo-groups, that price seems a bit high (especially from a slicer) ... my prices hover around $15k per slice and I can't justify it to myself to charge $25k per slice when I am sitting in Coronet. I have made much more when people have come out to me while I am running in a solo-group, because they are infringing on my money-making.

Wow ... never thought I would say that I thought a slice was too much...

I'm seriously considering either:

1) Only slicing for my guild. After playing a master smuggler for some time now, I completely understand why I've seen others stste this.

or,

2) Raising my prices substantially. Currently, I'm doing 5k per weap, 3k per armor piece. Imperials get hit with 7k per weap, 4k per armor piece. Doubling that would seem on-par with the rest of the servers. Radiant pirceing seems a bit lower than others; Buffs, on average, just recently went over 10k. My guildmates freak everytime I log on, because they say they can never find a master smuggler.

Yeah i was there, I saw that guy spamming, I charged 100c per %, and I guess I got the other 100 slices you didn't, plus a lot of people said they would be coming back to me from now on. I seriously went through all of my AUKs and some WUKs last night. I still made over 200k because of people tipping more than I asked, It is all on how you do business, not how you charge

I mean, it also depends on how you make your money. I guess if Slicing is your only source of income, you can HELP to justify that price, other than that it is expensive. But I get enough creds from grinding exp and resource hunting.

Nice! I asked 100k/slice recently, and got it easily. It may not be conducive to long-term employment (not that I care, as I'm mainly retired), but it's a little frightening that our numbers have dropped enough to allow this to happen.

25k is a bit too high for my tastes, but I am definitely going to be raising rates myself. Slicing just isn't worth my time right now, really. Most people buy weapons pre-sliced, and the ones who don't seem to believe that we smugglers canpull an endless supply of free AUKs, WUKs, clamps, and knives out of our arses. No price is low enough for them. So, I say let 'em whine to someone else,I'll be off doing missions on Dantooine for many times the credits they are offering to slice their uber gun.

Yeah to be honest, I'll probably raise my rates a little after this heh
