No, they can't. They can reach 30.

ok guys this is sounding just like the doc boards...
the main diff here is that docs have to pay more for their buff packs than smugglers pay for clamps/knives.
I'll say the same thing I said on the doc boards...
All you are going to acomplish is to help drive the economy up. As soon as slicing costs 20k a slice....weapons are going to start costing more...foods will cost more....hunters charge more for meat and other raw materials...driving buff prices up...making everything cost more.
Everything is connected.
As a doc...I never charge more than 12k for a buff(2400+ 3 hour 50 mins) and I dont do linecuts no matter the offer.
as a smuggler...I will not charge more than 3k a slice.
Like you said...I dont do it for the money.
Everyoneshould play however they want...I choose this way.

I think this is great, people really starting to see the value of their slices. I hope this idea spreads so that Smugglers can actually make money doing what they do best. Instead of just settling for pistoleer w/ a few extra moves.

What slices are people really looking for? For Armor I would assume effect is better than encumb.. for weapons do most people looke for damage over speed? If so why not set up a stipulation such as -
Armor: Effect slices 25k- Encumb slices 10k
Weapons: Damage slices 25k - Speed slices 10k
No promises on what you hit but this way the better slices are worth more...
Oh and I'm just now grinding Smuggler so that I can preslice my Armorsmith alt's armor and make some sweet suits to sell
I really don't plan on slicing for other but might if it becomes lucrative...

I've been lurking this topic since yesterday but I thought I'd jump in and throw my $.02
Each smuggler is free to set his or her own price, it's up to the customer to decide whether to pay it. I personally wouldn't charge 25k per slice, but I certainly wouldn't charge 3. Why? I can't justify paying 3k a slice. If someone comes with 30 items they'd like sliced then fine, sometimes I'll cut them a break. But I don't know how it is on your servers, but I found out last night that sometimes searching for tools can be a pain. My guild has no armorsmith, no weaponsmith. So naturally, unless you pay a ws or as to either make a schematic for you to use in a factory, or pay them to actually make the items, you're stuck looking for the tools at the bazaar, or going shopping. Now on Kettemoor the bazaar had the grand total of zero of these items (actually no, they DID, just the two I bought were on Keren Bazaar, but due to there being a lot of corsec majors and lieutenants around I could not get out of the spaceport without a HARD fight). So I had to go shopping. Shopping took quite a bit of time, since you had to go from store to store, only to find out that "Smuggler's Tools" means only MCs and knives. Finally when I found a place that had the items I was looking for I snatched up hundreds of them.
Now that said, after being through that, can I justify my time and efforts being worth a measley 3k? No. 5k minimum for me. You'll find people are usually willing to go above and beyond anyway. And if you get a good slice (like yesterday's 45% encumberance) then they'll be so happy they'll usually give you extra.

I don't advertise my prices, in fact, I don't usually spam at all. People come up and ask prices, I /tell them. They'll always pay the amount. I don't need to compete with some smuggler in another part of town spamming "/shout Weapons and armor sliced 3k per item!". I make plenty just standing around quietly even when I was just "slicer".

i dont think you should be able to charge 15 per item on sumthing that can go potentially wrong.
using the doctors spam is a bad egsample, doctors give customers what they want, so can charge what they want. if a doctor had a chance of a buff failing for 3 hours and a patient then not being able to be buffed for that time they would not be paying what doctors charge.
unless of coarse you ask the customer what they want and charge depending on the result then no way you should be charging that ammount for screwing up thier weapon /armor.
having said that i find it extremly anoying not having the choice to slice the different area's speed damage etc, if they gave us the choice then smugglers could really make good money as they could give a customer what he/she wanted.
i'm only new to master, and i enjoy being smuggler (what there is of it that works) but i feel pretty bad when i have to slice an expensive weapon and it goes completly wonky leaving the customer a few mil creds down with a weapon that is only potentially what it could have been.
you can charge what you want i'm not saying that, but i dont find my time to be that valuable:- hmm help people out with weapons and armorand have a laugh if possibleor stand shooting rancors for credits that i'll end up spending on some useless icon for my house or inventory... tuff choice really, do what you think is fun i guess.

Well, here's my view on that. Nothing can go potentially wrong as long as you pay attention (meaning, choose the right wire it says when you use a clamp). You must make your customer aware (if he/she isn't already, which most are) that slicing for now, is completely random. You cannot control what the results will be. They are paying you to improve their weapon in any way possible, no matter what outcome. If he or she gives you a million dollar weapon, then chances are he has enough money to give you 15k if that's what you decide to charge that person. The customer takes a risk of a low slice just by handing the weapon over to you. That must be clear, and the customer should know that risk before giving his weapon over to you. That is why usually customer will give you several of the same weapon to slice. So don't feel bad when you get a 19% slice on a million dollar plus weapon. There's, at this point, nothing that you could've done to prevent it...and any improvement, is still an improvement.

So you feel that a 12% speed slice is 'wonky' or is ruining the customer's item?
Don't forget, we do give people what they want. People want a slice, we give it to them. Whether they secretly would like a certain *kind* of slice is irrelevant.

As I see it, we have no control over the quality of the product so it's not really an issue in terms of pricing. A "poor" slice costs just as much as a "good" one. If a customer wants to pay more for a "good" slice, then they can bring me 17 items and pay for each of them.
And then of course, as every slice is an improvement, there's no such thing as a "poor" slice. No one needs sliced equipment to run Janta missions, grind Force XP, visit any dungeon or put on their armor, so any slice is a bonus. The only thing they might "need" a slice for is to remain competitive in pvp, in which case they should be riding on plenty of capital, and money isn't an issue.
Bottom Line: Customers never like what suppliers charge, and suppliers are never happy with what customers want to pay. So charge what you want, and they'll buy from you if they can afford it.

Ithink you guys misunderstand what i meant, i understand all the ins and outs about slicing and so do nearly all of my customers. what i meant was the egsample that was made about what doctors charge, doctors do not have a negative side to thier buffs (except they wear off) as we do,i.e we cannot choose what is done with the weapon, it seems unfair to be charging so much when we arent as reliable as a doctor.
Sure we can slice 100% of the time, but it is not always what the customer wants, which is the key to my arguement, they are paying for a service, if you exploit them, especially with the fact that slices are random it can only end up being bad, give em what they want (devs - hint hint!)
I'll try to give you an egsample, today i was slicing, and did a good job on a krayt mod. rep. blaster 33% damage took max to 380 ish damage or close, i was well sirprised and happy for the guy, charged him 4k coz thats what i charge. i prolly coulda kept the pistol and flogged it for half a mil. if i was an evil git...
2 days ago i sliced 2 krayt scatter one was speed and one was damage the damage was only about 27% which is what the guy wanted in the 1st place, now i asked for 8k for the 2 weapons but recieved 20k.
Isee this as a tip for doing a good job (how a good job of a random thing can be i dont know) but he is a happy customer, and i'm happy coz i got a decent tip for it.
Now if i had sliced both scatters and got speed, given them back to MBH/MP and said 50K pls i would feel like a total plonker, "here is 2 speed sliced weapons for you, even tho you hit the speed cap with a 4.0 speed pistol i still want for 50k for these useless items"
It is just too unreliable to charge that much for imo
Also i dont agree with this because allot of new players get told to slice thier weapons and armor, i had to talk to talk a guy through it the other day which was fun, my 1st newbie
and you guys are saying whine elsewhere if you cant afford it...some of em cant...
Iremember the days when it was 100 creds per % and masters where happy with it, why is everyone so greedy all of a sudden?
There goes the comunity

Okay, no offense here but...
Greedy?
Of course, maybe your vision of a smuggler is somewhat different than what it's supposed to be. What motivates a smuggler? Greed, adventure...we're lacking the latter so why complain about the former. What motivated Han Solo to help rescue Leia? That's right, the prospect ofgetting a fat reward. I smuggler haslittle ethics. He makes money where and how he can. If he can charge ridiculous amounts and get away with it then I'd say he's doing hisjob pretty well. There should be no standardization. It should be up to him to charge whatever he wants, be it 100cr/% or 15k, heck even 25k. It's up to thecustomer to speakup with his/her wallet. If they don'tlike the pricing, don't PAY for it. Soon enough the smuggler willtake the hint from lack of customers and lower their prices to something more reasonable.
Slicing SHOULDN'T be standard, lets get thatstraight. You speak of how newbies are told to slice their weapon and armor. They SHOULDN'T. Everyone and their mother has something or other sliced and it shouldn't be that way. The risk system is juts not there. For the slicer OR the customer. Slicing is a highly illegal proceedure, everyone should NOT be able to have something sliced. Just those willing to take the risk. But unfortunately it's not like that. So we should lower our pricing because slicing is just so standard now that we should accomodate the less fortunate? It's supposed to be something special but as it is right now it's not. Not until SOE gets off their butts and does something, which isn't coming in the near future.
As for the precentages vs cost as I said, it's a gamble. That's what slicing is right now. You roll the die when you give your weapon over to the smuggler. You take a risk, but as I said, even 19% is an improvement. So why should our prices reflect a roll of a die? If you go to a casino and play slots, does the price per play increase with the odds? No, you pay the same amount whether you lose, win $100 or win $50000.
As said before...greed is what motivates a smuggler. A lot of times they are solitary creatures that selfishly look out for themselves only. I don't know where and how all of a sudden a smuggler's role changed to reflect fairness and "community" inside the game. Here, fine, we can discuss our profession in a friendly manner. But inside the game, a smuggler isn't the nicest person you want to meet.

I really don't have a set slicing price i let people tip what they feel the slice is worth, since if your any good it cost hardly anything for slicing supplies. i get all my auks and wuks free or scims for free, not because i'm in a guild but because I make deals with smiths
