wouldn't it be great if there were no jedi and they could stop nerfing all the other professions because of the whining jedi?

Pipe dream, the chances of us having the game like it was before the great jedi grind is short of pure fantasy!

the game like it was before Jedi was pure, clean, and fresh. Now, you just can't go anywhere without seeing a damn glow stick. To be completely honest, I have nothing against those who play the Jedi correctly for the timeline (try to stay hidden.) It's the ones completely dominating the GCW, the ones who duel in front of the starports, and the ones who just wave the glow stick (ignited or not) like it's some kind of souvenier.

Talk about a selective memory! The early game was a mess of bugs, poor balance (eyeshot anyone?) and boredom. By the time Jedi came around, everyone was so bored that EVERYONE began the holo grind.

As for sabers, blame SOE. I lose half my defenses if I don't wield it all the time.

You know, I just watched Episode 3 for the first time tonight (yeah yeah, I'm lazy... it's an hour+ drive to watch movies at a decint theater for me) and I noticed something. Yeah, OB1 and Yoda are the only two jedi we (and them) know survived the initial slaughter but there is still the possibility more jedi survived which is why Yoda and OB1 did what they did with the signal. There very well could be alot more jedi then most of you all seem to think.

However, I do agree, if there were alot more jedi left, they were hidden and tried to stay that way. I don't mind all the jedi. I think it's just fine there's so many of them. I also completely agree with the jedi players in that the game mechanics aren't really conducive to them remaining hidden. Effective leveling requires grouping, grouping creates alot of visibility both for BH missions and in general (it's alot easier to notice a group of jedi then just one), andwith skill mods being bound to the robes and sabers, it isn't like a jedi player has the option to hide the visuals which give away their relation to the force. Also, the visual effects for force powers (while pretty) aren't exactly conducive to remaining incognito. If a jedi weren't in their robes, didn't have a flaming "Jedi Knight" title up, and didn't have a saber equipped, were to use Force Meditate and it didn't have the sounds and visuals, would you automatically think Jedi or TKM? Personally, I would think TKM.

Though this may seem random (it will tie in, in a moment) another thing I agree with, timeline related, is jedi in this time period aren't going to be as powerful as they were before the events of Episode 3. It is evidenced by Yoda and OB1 who both were but shadows compared to what they used to be.

Perhaps the answer to this jedi "problem" is to reduce the xp requirements of jedi(force sensitive stuff should remain as it is), reduce thepower ofjedi from quite a bit above normal tosimply above normal (normal of course being a subject of debate), make skill mods inherint in the skill boxes instead of in the items, and at least make force power effects a toggle.

Reducing the xp would reduce the necessity of grouping which would lower visibility both for BH missions and for being noticed by passers by. A reduced xp requirement would, of course, unbalance benefit gained from effort required so the power of a single jedi would have to be reduced to avoid the "flavor of the month" syndrome which happens when something is easy and gives a big reward.

Removing skill mods from items and making them inherint in the skill boxes of a jedi would negate the "clone jedi" effect (which is just as bad as the comp armor clones from before the CU) as well as further cloak a jedi from public eye as a jedi would then be able to wear whatever clothing they desired.

Being unable to unequip a lightsaber without losing defense isn't so much an issue. It's something everyone has to deal with except TKM's. However, it becomes anannoyance when a player is locked into a pvp-able state as knights are. For those who choose to enter the FRS, that is a price they have to deal with, I say. It is no different then any other player being special forces and unequipping the weapon type they specialize in.

One big complaint I've had with jedi in SWG is the friggen force power effects. I know it's a game and effects are cool and all (the art team did a good job on them to). However, they do not add to the gameplay. They just destroy immersion. The only powers I've seen in the filmshave any visual effects are Lightning andAbsorb. The only one which produced a sound itself (and wasn't just a product of the effect it had on the object it was effecting), was Lightning. There are many fungames out there which have force like powers in them but no visual effects aside from animations and it doesn't hurt the games at all. In the case of SWG, it would help... alot. Animate the powers, drop the effects and sounds (on all but lightning), and let jedi use their powers in towns without gaining visibility (no obvious jedi identifying things like robes or sabers equipped obviously). No one except other force attuned people are going to know what the hell they're doing anyway. Alternatively, initiates could gain a power which works pretty much exactly like Mask Scent (I actually like this idea the best). This power would "mask" the visual effects and sounds of force powers and prevent visibility from being gained by using powers around people. It would break on combat and wouldn't be able to be used in combat.

These things, I think, would end the jedi "problem" and bring SWG closer in line to the timeline without preventing people from trying to be a jedi if they so choose.

Let's see... in the early game, I was respected because I was a Master Musician and Master Entertainer. The hologrindruined the cantina experience we had in the early game. That's never come back. The buff bots pretty much kept it down, and now Inspiration buffs have the cantinas nearly completely empty. The fun I had in the early game is gone, and is never coming back. There are a lot more things about the old days that gave me enjoyment in the game.

I blame SOE quite a bit. They completely screwed up the mechanics of opening a Jedi slot and then caved and let everyone know the "secret" mechanic. Then they totally caved in on permadeath (which was the "organic" method of keeping Jedi rare.) I guarantee you, if permadeath never went away, the Jedi visibility would be just fine. Jedi would do everything they could to stay off terminals. They'd grind slowly, and smartly. When you did see a Knight or a Master, you would know you were seeing an extremely rare sight, and that you were seeing a very skilled and dedicated player.
