I'm having a hard time understanding why the price of slicing has gone up. Every time i ask a smuggler for a qoute invairably i'm told that slicing is completly random but, that the price has gone up. Has there been a slicing revamp that i'm not aware of? Have the knives and clamps gotten more expensive or better?(i.e. lower the randomness) Have the tools become harder to make? Why has the price gone from 100creds per % to 200creds per % or even 4k to 5k per slice or higher? (i've seen armor being sliced at a flat rate of 5k per piece no matter the outcome) I left for a month to try lineage 2 and when i get back and actually need a slice i find things have gone haywire.
After reading the post on on eclipse about a smuggler actually stealing a players weapon it brings scary images of the gameplay from lineag back to mind.Thievery was rampant and the customer service reps there would tell players that other players are allowed to employ anystratagey of game play they wished. Is this what our smuggler community has dropped to? There were smugglers from this board on the eclipseboard defending the proffesion. Please help me understand how the smuggler proffesion can be defended.

It's more frustrating with the crate "fix" is one reason...
We can no longer auto-pull our tools from crates, therefore we need more inventory space and it takes more time.
As for the thief that stole that guys weapon... well, unfortunately some people have no class. It can't be helped sometimes, but the smuggler community as a whole aren't going to do that, simply because if we do, it gets out and hurts us because nobody will do business with us.

What I don't get is seeing a lot of non-smugglers complaining about these raising rates. I used to charge 2 or 3K when someone wouldn't pay me whatever they wanted. Recently I've stood my ground at 5K per piece. I don't get complaints out right, but Isee them here. I wonder what the deal is. We've been shafted forever by the devs, so maybe we're venting.

Waahahahahahhahaa, I paid 400K for this uber1337 pistol, and a Master Smuggler wanted to charge me 8K to slice it!!!!!!1!!!!!!! What gives!!! I was a master smuggler 2 years ago and I could always pick my slices too!!!

Listen..no offense here, but before you go rambling on like you know all about our abilities, go grind it yourself. You'll see rather quickly why the whiney, grumpy, cheap customers...combined with the fact that we have inflated costs do to docs charging 10-20K for buffs, and have a gimped pistol line etc. etc. etc. is why we charge whatever the heck we want. Don't like it? Go find a smuggler that is cheaper. No one said you had to pay a high price, and no one said you had to have him slice it.
As for the guy stealing, many of us read the thread. Yeah someone posted a link here for us. That is an issue with a bad guild, not a "OMG smugglers are theives and have no honor" issue.

Ok your willing to stand in line and pay 10-15k for a buff that lasts for 2 hours, yet you don't want to pay for an improvement to your weapon that lasts until the items craps out? Somehow that doesn't add up.

Here Here to the buff reply. Docs have resources to obtain as do smugglers, and a sliced set of composite armor goes hand in hand with a nice buff....3 hours vs. 3 months.
Two cents on the "stealing." I have been accused...and to say the least, it peeved me quite a bit. Here's the deal....bugs. Nine objects traded back to you ( a set of armor) appears as eight when u get it back....try to do a quick reload. Sometimes this "thievery" is merely a load error. Just like walking into your large Corellian home to find your furniture has gone missing.
I now slice for friends and knowns only. To all others, my rates are high enough to say " I really dont need to steal your armor, I am 'stealing' your credits....LOL!"

I read the thread too, that's just a case of some idiot that thought he'd get away with a lie. Too bad he forgot about the part where stormtroopers do NOT take the items. Scumbags are scumbags, regardless of the profession. Smugglers are just like everything else, there's bound to be some bad apples out there.
I wish there was some slicing UI for single items, similar to the ID UI or something. That way people wouldn't be so quick to accuse the innocent. IMO, slicing is one of the cheapest things in the game... seriously. People spend 12-15k for doc buffs on my server, and the docs are talking about raising prices to 20k because they aren't making enough money. Some organics are going for 20+ CPU on my server now. Inorganics are getting to be 3cpu for even the lowest OQ stuff.
Everything is starting to go up in price, not just slices. At least smugglers have a legit reason for raising the prices... the time it takes to do them. Everyone else is just being greedy, IMO.

Point in case. An honorless thief. Just one response that prove my thoughts that the majority of this community is a bunch of common brigands. This thread has nothing to do with what another proffesion does. It has to do with the moral fiber of the people that make up the community. Can anyone explain you're rising costs? Can anyone explain what has caused smuggler prices to go up other than greed?

I'm a newish Master Smuggler on chimaera, when I just had slicing 4 (before the last publish) I charged 4k per slice. Business was bad, not because of my price but because of my lack of Master title. Now I charge like this:
8k per item
20k for three items.
60k for a full suit of composite.
40k for a full suit of ubese.
25k for a full suit of wooke armor (sorry, can never remember the name).
(And if you ask nicly I might throw in an extra free slice with a full armor suit)
I have had a few people claim thats expensive, but most are happy with the prices and some even pay more, one guy tipped my 150k for a suit of composite that came out with high encumberance slices on the main parts.
I made a schematic a couple of weeks ago for 1000 molecular clamps and I've just put the last 200 through my equipment factory. Thats just under 800 slices (still got some mol clamps in my backpak) in the last two weeks without advertising, I just stand in Coronet or Bestine or wherever and let them come to me.

Is it not just remotley possible that we've realised that we have been undercharging for months? Ok how about this, I set my price to what I belive my time is worth, I play this game for fun too, not to be your slicing monkey on demand.
So if I think the time it takes to argue about prices, trade, slice and trade back is worth 8k who are you to argue? As it has been pointed out before, you don't have to come to me, if you can find a cheaper slicer out there go for it.
But be aware that finding a master smuggler can be difficult now, many have given up slicing for the public because of the minority of idiots that like to make things hard for us, moaning about slicing the wrong stat, or we didn't try hard enough.
And as for the comment "Just one response that prove my thoughts that the majority of this community is a bunch of common brigands", you've heard responses from a few people, some of which apear to me to be a joke, and then tar us all with the same stick? Would it be wise for me to call everyone on your galaxy an idiot just because you apear to be? I don't think so, and I certainly wouldn't come to that conclusion. Don't take a minority to indicate the feelings of the majority.

I don't mean to speak for Squishklown, but I believe that what he wrote is known as "sarcasm" or "humour".
Listen, dude, when doc buffs rise in cost, and armour costs rise, and wepaon costs rise, and resource costs rise, do you honestly expect the Smugglers to say "well, everyone else charges 100 credits per %, and by golly, that's what I'm going to do to!".
I waste (yes, I WASTE) copper with a 992 Conductivity on MCs and PLKs. I waste high quality resources on WUKs and AUKs. I know it makes no difference in my slice %'s. I KNOW this. Every Smuggler that reads these boards KNOWS this, and some don't do as I do, but others do. Why? People who sit and whine that when they mastered Smuggler three years ago that they got higher %'s when using good quality tools, and quality does matter (that's sarcasm again, BTW; even a lowly Smuggler realises the game has only been Live just over a year).
I rarely participate in these forums. I usually lurk. But guys like you call me out.
Doctors go to starports and sit there and make money hand over fist. Hand - over - fist. Am I jealous? Not really. It must suck having to harvest and/or buy all the resources needed for buff packs, then have your play experience dominated by sitting at a starport targetting the next guy in line and running your "Your up next %TT, cost is blah blah, starting buffs, poof poof, pause pause, thanks %TT have a good day".
As I wrote that something occurred to me. I can't macro slicing. I have to do the trade (which in and of itself can be an adventure), then get a clamp, some knives if I don't already have some out, a corresponding UK, then use the radial, choose Slice, actually READ the screen, cut the right wire, cut the OTHER wire, then pray to God I didn't get what YOU would deem an "insufficient" or "incorrect" slice. Then I have to trade it back (another adventure) and the deal is done.
The more I think about it, the more I feel JUSTIFIED in charging 5k a pop. I can't macro it. I can't do a factory run to give you my upgrade. I take my TIME, my actual ATTENTION and upgrade a piece of your equipment PERMANENTLY. What, you do a search for Smugglers on Dant and see me in your list, and /tell me can I slice some of your armour. What do you think I'm doing there? Relaxing? Ummm, running missions maybe? You think it's worth my time to STOP running missions and go slice your gun for 100 creds per %. Here, take a hit of Muon while you're at it. Why not /tell an Armoursmith sometime and ask him out of the blue, hey can you give me an 80% set of comp RIGHT NOW. Tell me what his reaction is. Leave the explitives out. If he's nice, he'll direct you to a vendor. But everybody thinks Smugglers are there JUST for them to slice THEIR equipment at a moment's notice. Pffft.
You can call it greed if you want. Wah, wah, to be blunt. Do I think docs are greedy, or armoursmiths, or weaponsmiths? No. I don't. Even if they can macro their services, or even if they can make a factory run of comp armour. I know the effort they put into the creation of their product. I APPRECIATE them for what they do. They provide a service. They charge what they feel is the going rate for that service. When I started out as Smuggler, I never sliced for anyone while going up the Slicing tree. I never sliced publicly until Master. Why? I knew my slices were inferior to a Master. I was also stupid enough to not take any Pistoleer and tried to make money running missions with just Master Smuggler. Try that sometime.
But I am off track. If you don't like what you're being charged for a slice, and think that it's "haywire" go look for a good stun baton and a nice 80% set of comp. Then come back and ask if OUR prices are haywire.
That felt good.
