Thread: When smugglers say Tip me whatever you like GRRRRRRRRRRrrrrr

Ok, I hate when any player says this! I've been playing since September of 03' and for one year of that time I was a crafter. I always had a price for anything I sold... Now, a lot of players are just telling me to "tip whatever I like"... Doctors, Creature Handlers, and Smugglers tend to be the worse!

Anyhow, here the situation (and why I'm posting here):

I'm a MBH. Level 4 smuggler loot drops just about every mark I kill. I got tons of it. To me it is worthless... Obviously I wont pay for any level 4 mark-up but at the same time I want to compensate a smuggler fairly for the tools they did use as well as their time.

So what is a fair price to pay for a few moments of a smuggler time and level 2- 3 components? 10k? 20k?? 50k??? 100k???? I know what it is like to make a living selling services to others so I want to be fair... At the same time, since I galaxy x-fer and lost all my stuff, I dont have the cash to excessively tip people.

So what do yall think is fair for a slice when the delicate trigger assembly/Core boaster/ect is provided? Also, while on the same subject, what is this level 4 stuff worth to yall? I see some of your prices jump a good deal for a level 4 slice but I dont think I would charge half of the price increase for the level 4 component if I sold it to you guys... Am I thinking too low in terms of price? Should I be selling this stuff for 50k+ a pop?

Yall do know just about every mark drops a level 4 component right?

A 'fair' price varies by server. I personally have tons of my own components, so I don't let people give me their 'own' components to use in a slice. What I DO allow, is clients to sell me their components before/after/during a slice...for the prices I list. What peeves me, is the guy that comes to me wanting a top-lvl damage slice, and expects me to give it him in exchange forone trigger or intraframe.

If a Smuggler tells you, 'Tip what you feel like...', then feel free to tell him that your tip will be in your excess slicing tools (worthless to you anyway, as you say...so just give him a whole bunch). If he throws up a fuss, then...then he should havenamed his price in the first place.

Illegal Core Boosters are most likely the rarest components. On Ahazi they're sold to Smugglers or anyone seeking to pick up the part for anywhere between 100K and 500K. Before the new BH marks they were a couple million credits each. As they get more and more common the price will drop. But I've done a bunch of missions on my alt BH to supply my Smuggler and have only had 2 drop.

I'm one of those Smugglers who say tip whatever you'd like. This is cause, after 2 years of providing this service, I have enough money to tide me over. It honestly doesn't matter too much to me. If you feel it was worth it, then pay for it. Otherwise, I'm just happy to help you out. I think alot of us old timers are like this.

If supplies are given, then I'd say 25k a level is a good price.

Tier 4 speed = 100k.

Tier 3 damage = 75k

I generally charge 10K for my slicing services... per item. /shrug I haven't sold my components at all yet, hasn't really been a need so far, I haven't seen much of a slicing market on Flurry.

Thanks for the advice guys, it is much appreciated.

EmonOkari: Good idea about "paying" them in excess smuggler loot! Everyone wins there

Duedroth: Did not know the illegal core booster isstill somewhat rare... It has been the most common smuggler loot item I get so far.

DigiDante: Looks like a good price guide! Thank you.

10k for a full slice or per level?

I remember back in the day when 10k was the "standard" slicing fee... When I got back after a year or so hiatus I was like, "100k a slice?! Damn that inflation". That was until I went into space and made 250k in under an hour.... Then I understood

If I'm supplied with the components I honestly don't care what I'm paid because I'm already a millionaire and it's simple clicking on a dialogue box.

Being paid with extra components is a very good idea because many people wonder how in the heck a smuggler can't have that tier4 component on them, when in actuality it's incredibly difficult for most Smugglers to come by them unless they buy them. This need is, I believe, where the price comes from.

If you need to figure out what prices components go for, do a galaxy vendor search or browse a bit on your galaxy's trade forums.

Here's my current price structure:

Level 1 slice = 5k

Level 2 Slice = 10k

Level 3 slice = 25k

Level 4 slice = 50k

This represents more than just the time it takes to do the slice. I'm increasing the value and effectiveness of your equipment and it's fair that I see a share of that.

If I have to provide components, it's changed since I now have greater access to high-end components:

Simple Toolkits = 10k (I have nearly 2000 of them)

Fine Toolsets = 50k(if they're really so abundant or inexpensive, please provide your own )

Shock Absorbent Padding, Trandoshan Intraframes, Powered Motivators = 100k

Reactive Micro-Plating, Mandalorian Intraframes, Delicate Trigger Assemblies = 75k (easier for me to obtain than the level 3 parts)

Illegal Core Booster = 200k

These prices are just my own, I don't feel that they are representative or even a suggestion. They're simply based on availability of components, and in most cases the customer can save quite a bit just doing a vendor search for the parts.

Do me a favor.... the next time a smuggler says that, please just shoot them in the head. They're devaluing slices and ruining the game for all other smugglers. When they start wh*ring out their services for free, they ruin the market for the rest of us. "I'm in it for the money, sweetheart."-- remember?

The way I look at it, they save me time, lots, and droid/backpack spaceif they supply the parts. If they supply the parts, then they can tip whatever they like.

You seem to forget that being competitive is part of the business. If you can't compete, then step out of the kitchen. I don't stand in the starports spamming though, I just make myself available to those that use the search function.

That being said, I get way more tells from people wanting to either buy imp faction points (LOL, I'm Reb colonel... some people just can't figure that part out) or sell slicing comps. I obviously can't sell imp faction points since I'm a reb colonel with -5000 imp faction, and I refuse to buy slicing comps until they stack.

IF AND WHEN they let the comps stack, then I'll come up with some base prices. Until then, I'm staying with the "you bring me the parts, I'll slice it, and you tip whatever you think it's worth" routine. Don't complain to me, complain to the idiots who weren't smart enough to let them stack in the beginning.

QFE.

My favorite smuggler line is: "Sure... but it'll cost ya."

I had a frequent customer who sent me a tell a few days back, asking me to meet him at the Rebel Outpost on Rori in three minutes. When I got there, he asked me to shuttle to a nearby player city and then bike 2km to his house where he keeps his two suits of BH armor... at that point he considers what kind of slices he needs and realizes he doesn't have the components.

So we biked back to the shuttleport, shuttled to the starport, flew to Tatooine and drove to the house where I keep my tools. While trying to slice the first suit, the customer keeps asking me questions ("Are you done yet?" increases the price on the spot) and decides to change his mind on what kind of slice he wants on the second suit. After I finish with the Armor Break 3/Hardening 1/Deflection 1 on his PvP suit he says "let's trade suits". Sorry, we settle payment for any items before they are returned. Once that was done, I did the full Hardening slice on his PvE suit. This time, he let me work in peace so there was less of a markup.

The point of this long tale? All said and told, the charge to slice both suits was 3.6 Million (2.1M for the first suit, 1.5M for the second). Basically he paid triple my normal rate for the first suit, and double normal for the second - after factoring in a discount for a frequent customer. This was because i had to drop what I was doing and spend a lot of time meeting the customer's needs. I let him know that with better preparation and allowing me more time to do the work, the price would be less. He happily paid the price, the money was not a concern to him - but even though I have a big bankroll, it was to me. My game time is valuable to me - I don't mind spending it to help someone else as long as it's worth my while in some way. When I'm asked to use the abilities of my profession for the benefit of others, I make sure I benefit accordingly.

I will gladly dropa quest right in the middle of a mission, fly to Kashyyyk on a moment's notice and meet the customer in the Shadowed Lands, slice the gear and then hand-deliver it to someone in the Village... but it'll cost ya. "I can imagine quite a bit."
