I've got a better idea... when some punk says, "oh, just tip me whatever you want" give them 7 credits. If they gripe about it, then tell them that they shouldn't have their customers determine their pricing scheme for them but should do the work themselves.

I'm convinced that these people simply don't want to go through the effort of figuring out a price list -- despite the fact that people post examples here regularly. That or they don't have the back-bone to stick to their prices if someone starts whining about them.

You can send them here to talk to me and I'll set them straight.

After naming my base slicing rates, I alway add "Of course, if you're feeling generous... " Sometimes they are, very much so, to the tune of double what we'd agreed on.

So what is a fair price to pay for a few moments of a smuggler time and level 2- 3 components? 10k? 20k?? 50k??? 100k???? I know what it is like to make a living selling services to others so I want to be fair... At the same time, since I galaxy x-fer and lost all my stuff, I dont have the cash to excessively tip people.

Just offer to give the smuggler whatever extra loot items you get. I'm sure they will be extatic about getting 3 or 4 core boosters and a couple trigger assembliesfor doing a full weapon slice for you

I posted earlier that I'm one of these "punks" who say to tip whatever. I've been a Smuggler since dec of '03. Started grinding it at Launch and had to take a few months to finish my bachelor's degree, finished my Smuggler template when I got back.

You damned well better believe I've had a set price for a long time. In the old system, I'd charge based on the weapon. Full crate of VKs from one of the premier WSs? 350K. Full crate of T21s? 500k. A sickly krayted T21? That'll be 100k please. My reasons were the same as any Smuggler's. Because I'm permanently augmenting, often times very well, the quality of your armor/weapons. I'm just sick of it now. I don't care how much I make for slicing someone's gear with these stupid components. If you supply me the components, it's basically just point and click for me.

You think I'm ruining it for you? Well, for everybody I've said "pay me whatever you'd like" to, I've been tipped MORE than I would have requested. Never once have I been "undertipped" when it comes to this line. And believe me, I wouldn't give 2 sh!ts if someone did as you suggest and tipped me 7 creds. It's never happened, but given what I told them of my charges it's perfectly reasonable.

Agree 100%. It hasn't happened yet, but if somebody offers much less than what I would have asked for, like 7 credits, I'll just add them to my ignore list. Then they can go deal with the likes of dlc3007. Maybe after the stacking patch I'll decide on prices, but until then, things are just too unstable and a PITA for me to stock components and make a price list.

/methinks dlc3007 is just some kid on summer vacation that can't stand everything not going his way.

I usually say "forget it" when there's no set price. What in the heck kind of way is that in doing business? What prohibits anyone from saying "ok, do it for free" and that just sets up a hate tell fest.

If someone asks me how much I charge, I always ask them "What is it worth to you?" if the amount is too low then we get into haggleing. Usually we end up bargaining for a few minutes and come up with a decent price. Usually below the moneymongers and the slicemonkeys where they get a deal and I feel compensated, but it gives that added element of the haggle. I enjoy that, and usually get repeat customers trying to get me to deal and providing other services, favors and information.

I have two bounty hunters that provide me with tools for service, and the same with an imperial smuggler who we have a mutual 10% referral arrangement.
