Thread: Concussion shot vs Stopping Shot?

Ok before everyone freaks out about me beating a dead horse can I just get some honest un-biased explaination?


Is concussion shot supposed to break on dmg? if so what good would that be? please do not tell me blah blah blah mulitple roots vs crying jedi = I win button. I'm not asking about the exploitation of the shots, or any bugs they may have I want to know what exactly they are supposed to do and whether or not it is even worth having.


remember feign death nerf? it basically became useless right? well if concussion shot is supposed to break on damage then essentially it is useless since in another half second im going to be shooting again.


from my understanding the confusion lies in:


Stopping shot is supposed to be a root ie the target can heal and do ranged damage but cannot move thus preventing melee dmg there is a duration and a cool down timer. and also a chance that it will not take.


concussion shot from what i hear is supposed to be a mez? which i understand to mean the target cannot move or heal or perform any other attack during the mezzed state yet it is supposed to break upon next dmg duration cool down and chance of not hitting blah blah.


now if this is correct then neither of these shots work at all propperly as concussion shot acts like a root and stopping shot also acts like a root but a far less effective one...even though I have advanced stopping shot? /shrug


if they are going to change concussion shot to break upondmg then they need to make sure the target can do nothing during the time in between. but that is unlikely. if they are going to keep it a root than just have a root immuntiy timer on the target is all



now the problem with stacking. I agree that multiple flavor of the month bh/smuggler/pistoleers will go and root a jedi till dead is a problem but that does not mean you need to nerf the shot to uselessness.


would it not be more effective to put an immunity timer on the target for the next shot rather than make the shot useless for crowd control? just like they did with warcry a ways back where once it sticks the effects last X amount of seconds but the immunity lasts longer. even 20 seconds after it breaks is huge

Well, I think that Concussion shot will be useless to you if you are fighting someone/something in a 1 on 1 environment - that is unless you want a break to heal and regen while they are stuck there doing sweet F.A.


You will have to use stopping shot if you want the same effects as before. Plain and simple.


But thats enough about that.

We've already been down the road (pre-CU) of pvp-mezzes, and they *decidedly* sucked. Players could do everything other than shoot at us (they could follow us, heal, throw poison, etc.), which made the skill beyond useless. That's right Panic, I'm lookin' *RIGHT* at you!!


I fully expect that the new Conc will work this way too. Code's already written, there's no reason for them to change it. It'll be the Great White Suck, and when we complain, we'll look like a buncha Jedi-haterz that had our I-Win toy taken away. Nobody will bother *reading* our posts about why it sucks.

Fixed this today, Concussion shot is now a Daze + Root. Daze = Unable to perform any heals, buffs, attacks etc. The target can effectively not do anything until the effect wears off OR is hit by any form of damage.


Panic Shot was also not working correctly, as the description has read since CU it is now operates as a Daze instead of a Combat Slow. Again Dazes prevent actions but break on damage. Made no sense for panic shot and lowblow to do the same thing excep tpanic shot was a much weaker version.


Overwhelming Shot was non functional as well, it now works.


These changes should be rolling out to TC in a few days and should help the Smuggler in fufilling their Crowd Control role better.

Concussion will still root. Panic shot will not.

Now I think we will be a lot closer to a 5 in crowd control. Definitely a 4 but most likely a 5.


You can Concussion Shot a group (thus freezing and rooting them) then work them one by one from a distance since after you shoot them they will still be rooted.

Does the root break as well? I sure hope not as it is our only real defense.

Um, maybe it has a shorter timer. Cost less action (might be handy for a getaway situation). It tickles your target a lil' bit- Oh waitaminute- IT'S A CONE!
