Thread: Does this mean Smugglers HAVE to buy JTL?
Groovykool
This is a very real concern, the original version of the smuggler statement made it sound mandatory even more than the one you see now.
It is more of the concept that I have to buy something to make my profession complete. At least that is how I feel

Not that I'm taking SOEs side(Rat B@stards)but you werent planning on getting JTL anyway? I know thats not the point but look at from that point of view anyway.
I understand where you're coming from Jandel. I had always planned to get JTL, but to put one of the three iconic professions in the game and not test it considerably in beta, not fix it at all but nerf it through live, and give us some mock content as if we're babies to appease with shiny objects is insulting.
For any newbie who would like to try smuggler, but may not have the ability for JTL (parents and such) where does that leave them? Smuggler right now is a title profession. There's nothing in the tree that remotely relates to smuggling. Slicing is a skill that many, not just smuggler, can benefit from. In fact BHs had slicing abilities in Star Wars last I checked. In fact they were needed for the missions they had to do at times. Crafting spice? In this game it's a narcotic. In Star Wars continuity it isn't yet we make it like we're chemists of some sort. We're supposed to be mining it and we don't. Now we lose out to chefs, who really needed the boost as they were said to be the buffing class, since they're better than spices which is really kind of a joke there. How many people only take twoswigs of brandy and that's fine for them. You're more dependent on brandy than any kind of spice there is. Well that's another story.
Seriously, the profession of smuggler has had many things wrong with it. A class that so many want to be hunted by bounty hunters requires 2 million pistol xp, but can't hold its own worth a d.a.m.n in combat. The profession favors factioned aligned players as they can sell faction points. Neutrals don't achieve anything in that regard. The smuggler tree, in my opinion, is the best tree to dabble in because there's nothing worth much except the extra slicing percentages given at master. You can get your combat avatar and go with dirty fighting for low blow, feign death, and last ditch. You can go up underworld to sell faction points or you can go up and slice your own gear. The only downside is that you won't get the benefits a master gets in the percentage ranges.
To tell us, just shy of one FULL year, that we have to wait a few more months and have to buy a game to ACTUALLY smuggle is ridiculous and should earn SOE all the negativity it breeds with actions like this.
Seeing how we were supposed to given something way back in november (I think) with GreenMarine's help, but didn't just emphasizes it more than anything that this game was nowhere near being acceptably ready.

To those of you who ask "who really wasn't considering buying JTL" you are cheapening the point in my opinion. The point isn't whether we were going to buy JTL or not. The point is being strung along for almost a year and then finding out that we'll have to buy the expansion to live the life of a smuggler in the Star Wars universe.

Sorry, which versions are you referring to?
