I've decided not to buy Star Wars: Jump to Lightspeed until the smuggler profession is fixed. The only way SOE can make me do it, is its required to continue playing the game. And if it is, at that point, I'll have to make my decision to continue playing.

I'm a software developer myself and I know you don't opt for features over fixes, because the work usually ends up depending on the broken items and you'll have to rip everything out to get to the broken part and then put it back together again. I am not thrilled by the recent development announcement.

I completely agree with you from a developer perspective, but I don't think I have the willpower not to buy JTL. I'm a Wookiee Smuggler and I mostly play now just to laugh at how useless I am, but it's the only MMORPG with the StarWars name. So here I stay.

Hey, the devs don't control the pricing scheme. SOE does. The devs just build the game and have to follow what's dictated by the execs in charge. They tell them to make it an expansion, they make it an expansion. We all know a star wars game isn't complete without space adventure so... complete the game then fix the bugs... like a puzzle. Start with the border then do the middle... SWG with jtls is missing a side of the border.

Yes, but a) they've been "too busy" to fix us for nearly a year now, b) we're pretty much powerless to do anything but **edit** bitterly and come up with our own ideas for the profession, and c) complaining is fun.

So on that note, etc fix us etc etc.

Aw, they nerfed a quasi-dirty synonym for "complain."

I know you're pissed, I am too. But, as Havok, Reenan, and TheWok (and others) so aptly put it. We are left to the constraints of a corporate suit, who have never seen this board, never sought to address software issues, and only see the fall as a perfect time to play upon our need to buy presents. If you boycott, the suits will not wonder why. They will not run to their computers and check the community boards, nor even ask a dev, or a focus group. The only thing they will do,is assume the fanbase is slipping, and drizzle down less money to the Devs. Devs then they let go a few more of their limited staff and our revamps and patches come slower and less verbose.

The alternative, is to buy it, still pay the same amount per month, let them know we are here, they give a small amount of the profit to the devs for the short while till next expansion and the cycle continues. This allows the same game to continue, and the support to at least be there. It's apooptastic(for fear of edit) dichotomy, but I don't blame the Devs and I surely can't see a better game on the market, especially when you consider how much more we get two games in one, where most people need to pay double their monthly fees for that.

I understand where you are coming from Im just as unhappy about it but with13% in a resent Straticspoll saying they wanted a smuggler re-vamp and most otherplayers wanting jedi content we are a minority. Makes not difference if we buy it or not,1000's apon 1000'sof other players will by it and you will be left in the dust. Sorry just the way it is.

History would indicate that delaying Smuggler Revamp, and SOE's lip service to us, isa trend. I see NO evidence of this trend changing.

I agree with some others that there will likely be NO smuggler revamp along the lines of what Greenmarine HAD been talking to us about...not this year and not next.

This time next year there will be something else that will again take priority and so it will continue. Smuggeris a dead profession...has been since day one and will continue to be.

Yea, because the 50 or so smugglers that post saying they will boycott JTL is really gonna make a difference against the 99,950 people who will pre-order it/buy it immediately.

I'm afraid I'll be buying JtL and for two reasons.

  1. Before SWG I had never played a MMORPG and the two things that made me change that fact was that it was Star Wars and would have space combat/travel. I've been waiting four years for this and I'm thinking I might aswell allow myself to enjoy what I do best - fly Xwings.

  2. There really is bugger all else to do in the game for me right now. I'm primarily a master smuggler and master pistoleer, one of which is long overdue for a revemp and won't get done until Feb 2005, the other has been relatively useless as an elite combat profession since soon after launch.

The Devs are doing what they can with restraints put upon them by the corporate types. The corporate types dictate a time they want JTL to come out, the devs need to do their damnedest to comply. I for one will buy JTL, I hold no personal grudge against the devs for doing their best. Besides, IF they tried to squeeze in the smuggler revamp between the jedi thing, the gcw, combat balancing (which in my opinion are 3 things more detrimental to the game as a whole) AND having a late October release date of JTL, I think it would come out sloppy and rushed. I've seen what SOE does with sloppy rushed crap. I don't know how many of you have played EQ, but the GoD expansion = SOE sloppy rushed crap. For now, I don't feel the Devs are ignoring us or screwing us. Granted, they probably should've done some of these things before they even released the game (like empty Master Smuggler box..), but since they didn't they need to prioritize and in the meantime, we're having to twiddle our thumbs for another few months.

Furthermore..I think i can pass the time blowing the hell out of TIE Fighters.
