but wasnt they looking at skill points as well. yes they are reducing what u need to be elite on some combat professions, but on some elite are they increasingthe Skill points required for these?

again no idea if read this or if this is true, maybe an understanding i have in my head after reading the first CU notes................

Correct ... as the previous poster, Commando frees up 48 (I think) points ... TKA adds 14 novice points.

They need to be careful about these conversions ... I will be very unhappy if I am forced into grinding a profession because they do a poor job at respec...but they do need to keep control of someone that grinds the novice professions just for a quick grind hoping to get lucky at respec.

I would say if you have two elite professions, you should be able to do whatever it takes to get two new elite professions.

I'm not 100% on this, Meltony, but as i understand it, you're correct, and it's the opposite of the commando concern about respec. In their case, they'll have "leftover" SP becuase they don't need Master marksman, just two lines of it. And they can't just respec that elsewhere. The Smuggler triple-master issue is that now TK and Pistoler require 2 lines each instead of just one. Meanng the best you can do is Master Smuggler, and then Master either TKM or Pistol, with no better than 2 lines in the other. Which means that since you can't triple-master anymore, you basically end up in a similar position of having SP left over that you can't do any respeccing with. Or soemthing like that. I confess, I'm not really getting what they mean by novice-to-novice and elite-to-elite. I missed the Chat.

It means that I can keep Master Smuggler, since it remains the same, but for me to get any other profession, it would need the same pre-req's since I have no other Novice skills.

I would not be able to do Bounty Hunter because it requires Scount 4000 and Marksman 0004 ... but I don't have the novice skills left to convert to those professions.

I would not be able to do Commando because it requires Marksman 0004 ... and once again I don't have the novice skills left to convert to that profession.

I would not be able to do Pistoleer because it requires Marksman 0404 and although I have 0400, I lack Novice skills to convert.

I do have plenty of elite skillpoints used, but I would not be able to use them since I can't get the Pre-req's respec'd.

So, as I understand it, the best thing might be to decide on your CU elites and then get the novice pre-reqs for that now?

For instance, a triple master who wanted to keep Smuggler and Pistols and dabble in Commando, should drop some TK now and pick up the Marksman 0004 line?

That should mean that you have all you need pre-req wise for the new profs and then you can transfer your remaining TK points into Commando with the respec.

Or am I missing the point completely?

Why wouldn't Elite lines be downgradeable to Novice boxes? Since it's a more difficult grind, I can't see any reason now to allow us to respec points used for TKM to Marksman, or whatever.

Not that the devs have ever thought as I do.. so I'm glad it's been brought up.

But this also has me worried:

Since the new Spice & Slice trees will require weapon xp, will the boxes we have now in those linesbe considered weapon xp for the respec? How funny would it be come CURB when none of us can respec back to master?

I am totally confused on the respec'ing of my character.
In live I have Master Marksman, Scout 4000, Master Pistoleer, BountyHunter 0040, Smuggler 0040, and
Commando 1000. Now what the hell does this mean in post-curb? I want to Master Bounty or Smuggler and then dabble the rest in the professions that I currently have now.

How is this going to work for me? Will I be able to take those no longer needed marksman points and switch over to Smuggler or Bounty Hunter?

All in all, it really just doesn't make any kind of sense... but I'm not *too* worried about it as I plan to regrind from the ground up anyway, without a respec. A little crazy, I'll grant, but I've got my reasons.

Don't tell anyone, but I think making everyone regrind would be very humbling for the population and good for the game

I took all this into consideration when I made my new character. I have all the new pre-reqs for my chosen professions so I won't be screwed.

And I'm working up one branch in TK so I can convert it to one branch in BH (pistols) since I can't currently get that branch with pre-reqs as they are now in Live.

well, after being out of the loop for a good 6 months or so, i was expecting to possibly have to re-grind. and i must say, that life without jedis wouldn't be all that bad.... and if this "EQ" style of ply comes in... i know that sony's gonna be losing a lot of players from here....

I don't know about that. I think most of us in TLB are reasonably happy with the way things are going. It's certainly not perfect, and there are some things that really pokes you in the eye. But overall I believe this will be a good change for the game.
