Thread: Have you seen how much armor is going to cost after the CU?

I was reading the AS forum and found this interesting post that outlines how armor might triple in price.

http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=armorsmith&message.id=83635

Thought you all might find it interesting.

I can see the point of upping prices for increased resources and time, but I immediately thought of 2 things:

Armour's not exactly cheap now. I always wondered how much of a mark-up there was on a suit. Is it a fair price at the moment? If not is the hike justified?

Also, if they charge more, then I can see the price of the resources sold to them (unless they get their own) tripling as well... Cue price war and economy melt-down. Now that solo grouping's out the window, money's a lot harder to come by.

What do y'all think?

AS doenst have a huge mark up, not like WS or chef anyways. The AS in my guild, one of the longest running AS on the server is just plain freaked out about it all, and says he wont be able to do armor after the curb....yeah, that bad.

He is a +12 AS, and makes the best armor on the server IMHO (in fact he got a phantom on a stun layor schem and made the best stun layers on any server), he has 40Mil+ of the best AS resources available on the server (guess how much all that cost him...staggering). he told me last night that he would be lucky if 5Mil of it was usable after the Curb as it is presently on the TC, and of that 5Mil, all of it will be only for the "steel" benefit...none of it matches any of the "named"resources in the schematics. He figures it will take many millions of credits and months of spawn cycles to be able to make good armor again, and doesnt expect to be able to make armor in a fashion that will put that money in the bank off sales to buy the stuff needed.

He also pointed out how WS wasnt affected....interesting point really...why screw AS around like this?

All that combined with armor having almost no use in combat and we will all be TKMs or not using armor at all when the CURB hits.

Got news for you after taking over a friends Chef toon I found out something. Unless the chef has a BE alt or real good friend Chef foods are not cheap to make. The BE part of the additives(which are a must for really good foods) plus the cost of the CA's for getting a 12pt chef are far from cheap.

Do any of these armorsmiths own any mineral harvesters?

When I drop a heavy (or all 30 heavies I own) on a concentration of at least 70% my cost is around .6 to .8 cpu to harvest that resrouce.

Factor in vehicle maintenance and cost to redeed my harvies and I'm looking at around 1.2 cpu total.

They are quoting prices of up 50 cpu for some resources.

Are any of these armorsmith guilded? Can they not get guildies to go gather up mass amounts of wooly hide, etc for them and buy them for less than horrid gank costs?

I can get guildies to gather for me at around 5 cpu and bank up to 200-300K of creature resources in a few days.

Ifthey don't have these means available to them, maybe they should think about scaling down their operation till the miners, and rangers get the hint. no demand = lower prices.

nevermind, just ignore my meanderings, nothing I can say or do will stop anyone from having the "THE SKY IS FALLING!" syndrome that is so prevelant in these forums right now.

Hello? Did you read my post? Creature and resource spawns dont spawn the best stuff each cycle. It would take Millions in credits andmany months of spawns to be able to get back to where he is with the current system. Clearly he is just more picky about his productthan you.

I never said the sky was falling tho....armor will be of so little use in the CURB anyways it doesn't really matter if all the AS do quit, we wont be wearing armor anyways. Read the post in the TC that I gave a link to..youll understand what I am talking about.

Cryosis; "Money hard to come by? Don't you all have JTL? lol"

double LOL!

There is this nice little spawn of tier 3s that appear from hyperspace at one point then fly, one after another, in a straight line to a second point where they go back into hyperspace.

If you sitin front of the secondpoint motionless you can shoot them one after another as they emerge and fly directly at you...about every 5-10 seconds. I can fill my inventory in about an hour for about 300k. Needless to say I don't slice anymore for money.

Yeah I did read your post, and I did read the post in the TC forum, and on the AS forum, where he got his numbers from in the first place, hence my post talking about prices up to 50 cpu.

As far as being picky about my resources, what else do you think I do in game? Am I just a smuggler? Or am I also an armor smith? Or do I have an alt that is perhaps a master armorsmith/12 point master weaponsmith?

Do I not need great resources to make competitive armor/weapons? Yeah I do.

If you want to play with the big boys and be competitive making armor, you'd better darn well have at least a couple of accounts, and not just for the 30 lots to drop harvies on, you'd better have yourself a Ranger too.

If you however do not have these things, then you'd better find a good supplier (who doesn't ream you on prices)or depend on your guild.

Smart Armorsmith's are gathering resoruces with the specified stats that will be needed post CU right now already. Smart Armorsmiths have already placed orders with their favorite guildies/regular hunters, and have harvesters down right now collecting resources.

Hoarding over 5 months worth of resources for making armorunder the assumption that things will never change, in an MMOG that changes weekly, with the prior knowledge that there's going to be huge sweeping changes to the combat system, followed by an eventual revamp of your profession is no ones fault but the hoarders. Keep your inventory thin, keep your resources as thin as you can too, and always be ready for change.

Never said that you stated the sky was falling, but looking at the posts I read that you directed me to would sure lead on to believe that it is.

Every AS is in the same boat. To survive, you will have to adapt. Yes, the sky is falling.

The AS are also concerned that since they aren't certed to wear any armor, they can't even GET to their harvesters, without picking up some combat skills. And imagine trying to do a harvester run on Dathomir or Lok, when the radar looks clear but then stuff spawns nearby 15 seconds after you've stopped moving.

When I drop a heavy (or all 30 heavies I own) on a concentration of at least 70% my cost is around .6 to .8 cpu to harvest that resrouce.

They are quoting prices of up 50 cpu for some resources. Yeah, I've always though the inorganic cpu costs that AS quote are a bit high. Looks like AS will have to choke down a much lower profit margin. That being said, when you run out of your stash of good stuff, you're going to pay out the butt to get it from someone else. A lot of AS have been saving resources for a long time, only to have the resource requirements changed, rendering a lot of what they have collectedfar less useful. It's like the smugglersrunningfactories fora bunch of mol clamps then discovering they are going to be useless after the upgrade. Not gamebreaking, but very, very annoying and a waste of time and credits.

Besides, it's the organics that AS are throwing the biggest fits about.

Are any of these armorsmith guilded? Can they not get guildies to go gather up mass amounts of wooly hide, etc for them and buy them for less than horrid gank costs?

I can get guildies to gather for me at around 5 cpu and bank up to 200-300K of creature resources in a few days. I agree with this, but the problem may be finding people who will do it for you (I'm glad rangers are considered a combat class now).

Yep. The game was fun before the upgrade. I'll try the upgrade, and if it sucks, I will quit (and be glad I haven't invested over 2 years of my life in this game). But I'm not going to scream and yell. If Baskin Robbins were to do away with Butter Pecan ice cream, I will just stop going there. I might say "Aw, don't do that" but I'm not going to howl to the heavens about why they shouldn't stop providing it, since I've been eating their ice cream since launch, and they're going to lose a jillion customers. SOE is going to do what they are going to do, and I am going to do what I am going to do depending on what they do. People act like they are doing SOE a favor by telling them they are stupid.

People will wind up wearing armor solely for the skill attachments.

This is all to the best of my knowledge.
