"So you want to be a space miner, do you? Well, to get started, you're going to need a cargo hold to store all of the asteroid ore. All types of space ships can have a cargo hold, but keep an eye on your ship's total mass if you have a small craft."

Friday feature: Space mining

Anyway, since we're now getting an Asteroids mini-game with cargo holds as ship add-ons... smuggling compartments anyone?

Aw, CRAP. I was hoping that these could be used in crafting. It'd be nice if the richest minerals came from space.

Dang it, got all excited for nothing. Well, not nothing, but you know what I mean

JtL is fine without an extra ship slot... if the yacht didn't count against our total. Being that it's pretty useless as anything other than a flying house, I don't see why it should count, either.

But maybe that's just me.

/agree

either 4 slots or not counting the yatch are both very good idea's.

Why?

Ok sure.. I can understand wanting to keep a nice Fighter thats got great compnents loaded into it.... And yes maybe some will want to keep their Sorosuub.

So then whats the problem? You have a MPS Freighter too.. YT, Nova or Deci? Well what more do you need? You don't need the Y-8 because you already have a Freighter, just need to add the Cargo Hold and Mining Lasers to your existing Freighter and your set for business.

Unless for some crazy reason you want 2 Freighters or 2 Fighters? I don't understand the practical use for having 2 Fighters though. You can only pilot one at a time.. I mean once you have acquired a better Fighter then whats the point in keeping the inferior one?

There is no "better" fighter. They all have different roles and abilities. For Rebels, the X-Wing is your midground. Manuverable, strong, can take a few hits. The A-Wing is your fast, highly-manuverable interceptor, but can't take many hits nor can it hold much in the way of weaponry. The B-Wing is its polar opposite, slow as a pig, flys like a brick, but you can wade through oncoming fire and then unload multiple missiles and cannons at once. That's why some people keep multiple fighters.

You need more ship slots because you need different ships for different roles, that's why. Right now I've got a Decimator for no real reason, an Oppressor for PVE, and an Interceptor for PVP. If I had more slots, I could have an Advanced with a completely different loadout as a secondary PVP ship, along with another Advanced with another loadout for a secondary PVE ship.. then maybe actually use my yacht.. and the Y-8 once it comes out. Oh yeah, and with these new ships, I might end up wanting one or more between the Jedi Starfighter, Grevious' Fighter, and the ARC-170.

Three slots is extremely limiting, and I hope RotW bumps that number up a ways.

Oh, and to whoever was talking about it, there's a heavy version of the Scyk as well. That's what'll require space resources, not the current Scyk model.

Why?................

Light fighter (single player)
Heavy Fighter (2 player, Krayt for example)
Yatch
MP ship (YT for example)
With all the new ships coming out they should allow us to have 4 in our data pad.
As it stands I have my YT, my Yatch and my krayt 2 seater. It would be nice to pick up a light fighter as I use all my other ship a great deal I do not want one give one up.......

Ok I can understand the desire for a Light Fighter and a Heavy Fighter... except that, well... I have a friend that has a Krayt that way out performs my Dunelizard. Nor does they need someone in her Turret... they fly that Krayt as though it actually were a Light Fighter.

Ok now granted that is just the Hutt ships... I have never flown any Rebel or Imperial ships and some below to also reply (and quote my as you had) and base their reply on the Rebel ships... but they did specify that there are no "better" fighters... but I still say there are. To me it all depends on the amount of Mass the ship has, and the type of components it has loaded (this is in regards to a Fighter, not a Freighter) ... and the flight sim combat skills of of the pilot, vs the performance of their PC when running JTL.

In regards to building up that fighter, well... everyone keeps complaining about copying ideas from EQ or EQII and porting them into SWG... well that is precisely what JTL is about when outfitting a Fighter... it is the old Everquest concept of Min Maxing with the stats (which has obviously been around for longer in games then EQ, but EQ popularized it a great deal more)... looking for the best possible stats with the least amount of mass or power consumption.. etc...

Again, depending on the skills of the pilots involved; given the right type of equiptment I bet I could easily take out someone in an A-Wing .. with a Krayt Gunship. Because I'v seen it done even though I don't know what either pilot had loaded in their ships. I was watching from my Dunelizard and I expected the A-Wing to fly circles around the Krayt,. and the Kryat to manuvuer like a elephant. Boy was I surprised, and the Krayt didnt even use their Turret... flew the damned thing like it was an A-Wing itself... though it did have some slightly wider turns, and slightly slower pitch and yaw rates... the A-Wing pilot couldn't shake it off.

Ok granted, maybe the A-Wing pilot didn't have as good components loaded in... maybe their PC doesn;t handle JTL as well... or maybe they just suck at combat in JTL. I don't know, as I never met them or talked to them but the impression I got from my friend was that they were supposedly a fairly good pilot.

My understanding is also that the Firespray (granted though it is espensive as hell to acquire and not everyone has one) manuvuers like a Light Fighter.. and yet it, in my opinion could probably be classified as a Medium or Heavy Fighter.

So, in my opinion... its all about how well the player really knows their Fighter, and how well they know the components they have loaded into it.

But after seeing several Krayt's in action; I would take one any day over the Dunelizard and as soon as I manage to acquire one then I will probably retire my Dunelizard.

Since I refuse to get a YT for my Freighter then I'll probably end up getting a Y-8 or one of the other new Freighters if they end up going live and are available to Privateers...

While the krayt does out preform mostlight fighters it does not negate the use of an ultra fast single player ship (this really comes into play in PVP). When you have been a master for a little while and played everyship in your profession you will see what myself and other masters are talking about.

Not quite sure what you mean, the Resources you mine used for crafting? They can be, and you can sell them on the open Market for other Crafters to use.

Note the keyword in the following quote from the Friday Feature...

For those interested in crafting, some of the new craftable items that use these specific resources include:

* High-Mass Ships: High Mass Z-95 Headhunters, TIE Fighters or Light Hutt Fighters can be crafted with the proper schematics. Each of these space ships has an increased mass that makes it comparable with higher tier ships of a similar class.
* New Ship Weapons: New craftable ship weapons with different appearances and characteristics.
* New Multi-Passenger Ship Components: There are new craftable components that are so heavy that they can only be used on ships such as the YT1300, but have better statistics.
* New Craftable Paint and Texture Kits: Space ore can also be used to craft new paint and texture kits.
* Other new items: Other new items will be showing up in the galaxy for both ground and space that will require these new types of resources, so stay tuned!

Some of the above things can be crafted.... We don't know yet what we can and can not use those resources for but I am going to bet that a number of the old schematics might be changed... because NOTE; the part about "High Mass Ships" ... specifically mentioned "Light Hutt Fighters" ...

Well when they released information abot the types of new ships we'de be getting, there was no mention of Light Hutt Fighters... so perhaps the existing ones might be getting some slightly changed schematics?

I was looking at it more from a non-shipwright point of view (armorsmith in my case). I didhowever, missthe phrase "Other new items will be showing up in the galaxy for both ground and space"...oops. The new mineralsseem to be geared towards spaceships, but I will be a happy puppy if armorsmiths can also use the new stuff.

Looks gorgeous doesn't it? love the look of that ship's interior.. finally a load of extra content for space!

Not to mention a form of weighting/cargo holds in space craft has now been introduced to the game, hopefully opening things up for the futre

Made it to Ace last night just for this reason!

Krayt for killin', YT-1300 for crusin' (and killin'), Y-8 for cash!

Now, maybe I'm bein' a little over-enthusiastic, but let's think about a few minor points here, shall we?

- Cargo holds.... Not much of a stretch to smuggling compartments, is it?

- Pirates... trying to get your stuff. Again, getting closer to Imperials/Rebels trying to get your stuff.

- Vendors...Space stations paying different amounts for different materials... sorta like an economic system where (contraband) goods need transportin'.

Maybe I'm stretchin'.... Maybe I'm dreamin'.... but this stuff definately has potential in these smugglin' eyes.

Hey Wes, I don't suppose you saw my Cargo proposal back in the JTL Beta boards, did you? It was really well-received by the players at the time, but I really don't know if they ever saw the thing. I'd go dig it up, but unless they archived those boards soemwhere I'm forgetting, it's probably gone now.

Would have made for some lovely options, though. Based on your comment, I suspect you'd love it.

EDIT: And i'll remind people that while it's admittedly a bit of a pain... re-deeding ships into your pocket can be your best friend. I've got about 5 ships I use at least semi-regularly.

Nova, A-W, B-W, X-W, and a tricked-out Z-95 I built jsut for those occassions when I want to prove I'm a better pilot than someone else. XD

Usually, I keep the Nova, B, and A loaded, though I'm thinking of switching the X in for the B. Just not doing much heavy bombing anymore.
