Slightly OT: I'm just afraid that if they eventually do implement Player Bounties it's going to be lame. Death is not really too bad a thing. It sucks in that you get a little decay, and some time wasted by having to clone and go back to what you were doing, but come on... Remember bounties aren't 100% killing. It's also 'bring back to who made the bounty and suffer THIER wrath'.Sure being in prison isn't fun for the game but there should be an option something elsebesides getting killed.
Since Player Bounties would be small PVP engagements, I think there should be a timer on them. Say, the second the bounty hunter begins his attack, you have 2 minutes, or 5 minutes, or 15 minutes or whatever to escape. And if you do the bounty hunter can't get you until they 'find' you again.I dunno, I've never been a bounty hunter so I don't know how it works. I just can't see bounties being fun to do or to have on your headbecause I'd totally just not give chase since smugglers, if they are pistoleers like me don't have a chance against a MBH. I would die in seconds. There is no way of balancing this. While I think if done properly it could befun, but as the combat/profession system is right now all it would do is give the bounty hunter 15 year olds out there a huge ego boost and thoughts that owneveryone because they can kill them in a second.
Technically in real life, any street slug with zero fightingexperiencewho is experiencing real life physics and luck can escape even the most masterful bounty hunter. In this game, your template pre determines the outcome. MBH beats Pistoleer Smuggler like a flush beatshigh card. But in real life a pawn CAN beat a King, he just needs that brief advantage. Again there is no way of balancing this. Sorry to be a downer cause I think this would bring a sweet angle to the game but is there really a way of keeping it balanced?

Have you ever as an Imperial been to an Imperial recruiter? I tell you, they are as rotten and "lawabiding" as any street punk
Add a /sneak, improved up the underworld tree, and certain other professions like scout/ranger (they sneak up to animals all the time). Maybe a feign death would have the guard come look at you, and you could try knocking him down, additional penalty if you fail, like getting 100 wounds. Something to keep in mind though, this does give us classical thief abillities, the guard knocking down is somewhat similiar to backstabbing, sneaking is just too classic.

I like the idea too, but some thing bothers me. I'm an imperial colonel, and for this reason i may not have to be into trouble more than a fine, and that's the case with most "illegal content" in the game ( even when i fail a scan the trooper apologizes to have bothered me !). I guess some solution could be the real effectiveness of law enforcers like CorSec, RSF, Fed-Dub and so on. Problem with that is there are no laws on Tatooine, Lok, Dantooine (not to speak of Endor, Yavin or Dathomir).
Let's imagine we could work it out, and take the example of Corsec :
Booster Terrik is a smuggler, and has a corellian he tends to keep a Corsec faction standing rather high (but sometimes he might have some troubles with them) let's say he's got +3250 points with Corsec. He's hanging on Doaba Guerfel cantina, chatting with his friend Talon Karrde, watching a prettytwilek dancer and listening to a wookie musician. Some Corsec come in, and start some scan.
Booster has is FGW5 equipped, and of course this one is sliced. As the gun is equipped it won't evade the scan. But he's a good citizen, so he can try to talk his way through the arrestation. He's not sure if it will work, but hey, why not trying?
If he manages to go through, he'll have to pay the bribery to the corsec inspector that searched him. Eventually with a small loss in his standings. If he fails then he can be throwninto jail and your jailbreaking methods can apply.
Now the maths :
item equipped (whether armor or weapon) : scan modifier X2
stored in inventory : scan modifier X1
stored in a contraband container : scan modifier X0.5
faction standings :
-
-5000 to -2500 : 5 to 25% chance to excape (after all you're already on the "most wanted" list) -
-2500 to 0 : 25 to 50%chance to escape -
0 to +2500 : 50 to 75% chance to escape -
+2500 to +5000 : 75 to 95% chance to escape
The count would be something like that : [(number of illegal items * scan modifier)/total number of items] * %age of escape chance
Maybe you can add some more random rolls to balance it but it would technically reflect those facts :
1. You're naturally not supposed to handle your gun and be armored in places where law enforcers are here to well... enforce the law
2. you try to be as good friend as possible with law enforcers to avoid getting attention from them, the best smuggler is the one the police doesn't even know he smuggles.
3. you should be more penalized if you have lots of contraband than if you just have a shadowpaw crate for your saturday night party
Any comments?

Well, I've always thought that Imperials evading the scan by /slap was just plain stupid. I mean, I understand the Empire is corrupt, but high ranking officers still get held accountable for thier actions that go against regulations and/or the will of the Emperor.

My oppinions:
Slicing in public place (Out in the open) should result in some form of punishment. My Corsec Faction was low one day. I washaving my swoop repaired at the Coronet garage when I got approached by a young lady to "Fix" her weapon. I had unequiped my weapon and armor already because I was notneeding it at the time.My screen is filled with inventory box and slicing boxes. I was getting ready to cut thered wireafter attaching my clamp, when all of a sudden I am in combat mode and takign damge. I clear my screen and look to see what the hell is going on. I htought this woman had set me up somehow. Come to find out a Corsec had wandered too close to me and with a low faction rating, decided to take me out. I quickly hit a stim B, equip my VK and take out this trooper. It actually set up a bit of roleplaying.
/dragbodytodarkcorner;
/loot
Me: "Sorry about that miss. Seems my welcome in this town just dried up."
Miss: Hehe
Me: You sure you want me to finish this job for you?
Miss: Yes. Why?
Me: Well as you can see. the law does not look to kindly upon this kind of thing.
Miss: Oh. That's ok. I think I can take care of myself.
Me: I bet you can. Especially when I am done with this little weapon of yours.
That is what should be going on witht he "Law" in SWG. And not just with Smugglers.
Performing overt illegal action in view of "Law enforcement" should obtain a penalty. All these people shooting each other and fighting in Coronet and not one single Corsec jumps in on either side. What are they for if not to stop fighting in the streets?
Trasfer of Spice or sliced equipment in public should also result in consequences. 1-2 individual items not so much A full create of spice or 5-10 sliced items should be looked at by the law. Tell me that if on a street corner they see one guy hand over a few creats of stuff they are not going to check into it. Or if they see one guy hand another 10-20 pistols or LVA's they are not going to ask some questions.
Spice/sliced equipment are illegal and should not be sold on a public vendor. (As i do now) Pretty much common sense to me.

I don't know. Sitting in a 6x8 for a few hours when I want to play a game does not sound like fun to me. Plus the camera clippingproblems would drive me mad.
1.Risk vs Reward. What possible reward could be worth the risk of being caught and thrown into jail.
2. I think a much better solution would be tohaving a player bounty hunter mission generate when you fail a smuggling mission.
Toavoid exploits, when you take a high content smuggeling mission, you have to put a 'bond' up front. ie, if you are running a smuggling mission, with a 50k payout, you have to place a 50k bond up front to start the mission. Then aftersuccessfully running the mission, you get 100k(50k payout, and your 50k bond back). If, however, you fail the mission, thena bountyhunter mission would be generated, with the bond placed as the bounty payout. If the BH kills you, he gets the 50k. If you kill the BH, you get your initial investment back.

I've always had this desire to be arrested by the Empire. Now, I'm not talking about Stormtroopers scanning me, opening fire and sending me to the cloning facility (if they're lucky hehe). I'm talking about getting thrown in the clink, the brig, the big house, the lock up, the rock pile, the slammer, the... well you get the idea
Imagine this: You get caught smuggling (ok, stop laughing), and you're surrounded by Stormtroopers. You fire off a Last Ditch (using it correctly for once! hehe), but then get clocked in the back of the head. You see yourself hit the dirt face down, and the screen fades to black. As things fade back in and become clear, you realize you're in a 6x8 (or smaller!) cell. You can hear Stormtroopers stomping down the halls, and every once in a while one passes by your cell (if you're unlucky he'll verbally harass you, if you're really unlucky he might open the door and kick you a few times).
You check for your weapons but... they're gone! You're down to your clothes! Now, you've got to either find a way out of their (and find your gear, which would be safely tucked away in a container only you can open and has a convenient "take all" option on it), get some buddies down their to pay your hefty bail, or get some buddies down there to bust you out!
Would escape be possible? Of course! But, it would require patience! You could spends days (in game days that is) trying to make it good with the guards, or trying to steal their keys, or maybe trying to fashion a lock pick or a laser knife. Escape would, of course, make you an Imperial target, and even get you put on the Bounty Hunter terminals.
Who could get arrested? Only the scumiest of the scum (in the Empire's eyes that is). Anyone caught with very large amounts moderate to highly illegal goods would have a chance of being arrested. Anyone caught with military grade (as Green Marine called it) illegal goods would have a chance of being arrested.
What happens when Imperials get caught? Depends on your rank. Below Master Sergeant: thrown in the clink. Between Master Sergeant and First Lieutenant: Demoted one rank. Between First Lieutenant and Colonel: A large credit fine.
Yes, you read that right, not even the highest ranking Imperials are safe. Your rank may reduce the penalty, but you're still not getting off without a scratch. You're a high ranking officer, who in the Empire's mind should know better and should be a better role model for his troops, so you should absolutely be punished.
Anyway, I really want to get arrested, how about you?

Being arrested is a curious thing for me.
Whenever I see it, I associate the notion with forced relocation of my player in a contained environment (not so good a thing)where I either have to sit out my time (which is boring) or escape (Which is interesting, but if you *always* escape, what's the point of prison?)
I can swing a little on thisand it is something I've wondered about pretty often.

The idea as such is okay, though I see no reason why even the highest ranking imperial shouldn't be demoted. However, as a general rule, I like to decide what I do while playing, this means, if I'm off to check hervesters, I'm off to check harvesters. Of course in these situations I can sometimes get caught in the middle or close to a bad creature nest, but these usually aren't too bad, and can be somewhat decided again by myself, like don't place them on Dath
All in all, no, I wouldn't like to be dictated on what to do the next few hours of gameplay.

Well, you wouldn't have to escape. You could always just pay your bail or maybe have some other option.
