Thank you for doing this. This is really interresting. As you say it seems you need a great deal of luck for the best slices.

Now that is VERY interesting. Solid proof that its much more likely to get mid-range.
Next thing to do is to use your program for an expirament.. slice for about a month using really "good" tools with best expiramentation, then use "bad" tools for about a month and then plug those numbers in separately. Would be very interesting to see the results, My bet says there won't be any discernable difference, but its something I think I may try just for S&Gs.

SBRDOC...
I wouldn't mind doing that experiment. But you can consider the original post above as the "poor tools" data already. I make my own tools and I don't do any experimentation. I think they are usually around 13% effective tools if I remember. So I would need to slice a considerable amount with good tools for the comparison. I do have some high quality resources saved up... I can try to make some quality tools, but I've never crafted (for quality) and am not used to experimentation, so not sure how to do it. I'll play with it this week.

HA! Proof that it is totally and 100% random. Look at that nice 50/50 difference for speed and damage. Kinda odd that there wasn't anything higher then 34% for effectiveness, can't seem to remember if I have had higher then that. But still...
50/50 on damage vs speed
50/50 on effectiveness vs encumberance
Bell curve effect showing where the slice % falls.
Give that to all those people who post things like "I hate to say it, but you're all morons, I know the key to slices."
Ahhh randomness. The bliss of the computer world. It isn't really random, but hey, if you can figure out how to crack it, you have one of those wierd super brains like the kids who go to college at 5.

I have some 100% kits and higher end tools.. I'll start keeping track of mine.

thanks for the post. Awesome work.
I have kept track but I I can say that with high end tools.. my wuk, clamos, and knives are 99% I have never sliced abovea 32 for damage on a weapn. I track my highest slice.
Now if we could just show this to the people who **edit** because their slice wasnt high enough.

my cost to slice one item = 360 cr
i charge 5000 cr to slice one item
using your numbers:

If anyone wants to contribute their slicing stats to the total, I will be glad to add your results into a seperate data file from mine and keep track of "everyone elses". Below is the format of a data file I can process.
*** IF you use high-quality tools (> 90%) keep those stats seperate from slices with crappy/average tools.
*** Send me any data files to [email protected] ... I set it up especially for SWG stuff.
Format of data file I can process:
# lines beginning with pound signs are comments and are ignored. Blank lines are ignored.
# A sample line of weapon data would look like this: You can have as many lines of each kind as you want.
weapon d29 s18 d32 d21 s33 .....
# I kept track of my armor slicesby PIECE of armor, though I haventrunthe stats piece-by-piece yet.
# So my data lines in my data file might look like this:
helmet n39 f15 ....
chest f27 f16 n40 ....
chest f27 f16 n40 ....
bracer n35f26 f29 n44 .....
bicep f22 f22 n38 ...
pants n40 f23 ....
boots f19 n22 .....
gloves n41 .....
psg n22 f26 ....
# But if you dont want to track individual pieces, just start the line with the word "armor" and I will
#modify my program accordingly...
armor n35 f17 ......
I recognize the seven basic armor types above plus "psg".
I log Wookie armor leggingsas "pants", and Ubese jackets and suchas "chest", etc.
I think my input line buffer is 1024, but keep the input lines to under 90 characters each please.
Again, you can have any number of lines of each type in the data file (e.g., 100 lines of "weapon ......").
If you have a file, no matter HOW LITTLE data, that you want me to process, send it to me.
I will keep everyone's totals in a seperate file from mine.

I think that the item being slice play the more important role when it comes to slicing. I have noticed that when I slice high quality armor or weapons I always get in the high 20's to low 30's. But when slicing regular quality to low quality items is when I get the mid 20's down into the teens.
Has anyone else seen this trend?

my cost to slice one item = 360 cr
i charge 5000 cr to slice one item
using your numbers:
cost: 360 cr x 3298 items = 1,187,280
income 5000 cr x 3298 items = 16,490,000
PROFIT = 15,302,720
very nice for 4.5 months

Excellent data! Very good work
I never suspected that the percentages would have some averaging built in. The curves look like what you get when you add more dice rolls into the equation. I'll have to go back and look at my notes on 2D10 and 3D6 comparisions. Kind of like:
Damage Slice = 15% + Random(0-10) + Random(0-10)
I'll check my old tables and see if it looks close. Although, those effectiveness slices look really scewed. Some of the older tests were done by nick on quality; but no were near this sample size. Here is the old link:
http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=smuggler&message.id=7308
I'll check my histograms and see how close they match this data.
