It really appears that the selections are political. I am not about to denigrate any of the people on that list but I see names that have contributed far less than others for a far shorter period of time.

Without opening this up to the community, it is a slap in the face to those that have been here since last July and have been contributing this whole time. From your post, you make it sound like those that didn't ride with the horsemen didn't have any chance at all of participating.

I am writing this from my alt account and sending a PM because I don't want forum drama but already, this had made me lose confidence in this whole process.

And yes, I have been a smuggler since July 2003. And yes, I participate on the boards (close to 800 posts on smuggler). But no, I don't think I'm the only one that feels this way.

• DrevenStrobe - I not only worked with him on Bria, but you have seen the time and effort he has put into this forum from helping other smugglers to writing guides for them. He retired a short time ago but luckily I have his e-mail address so I learned that he would be interested in coming back to test for our community.
  


• JTGAlpha - He is indeed one of the original Pony crew. He's fought long and hard for our profession and been of help in many ways. He's earned this spot times beyond counting.
  


• Geevo - He's done alot of work in the forum and in the game. I respect his opinion and he has helped organize vision documents for our community and more. I also wanted him here, honestly, because if I were to retire he would be probably highest on my list in suggesting someone to take my place. I need him there on the sand-box. I was not going to leave it up to chance.
  


• Ryutek - This guy went off and became the Teras Kasi correspondent. That should say something So he's in one way or another. Damn fine smuggler on these forums.

While it may not mean much coming from a mostly-lurking smuggler newbie, I for one think you did the right thing. Given the extremely limited scope of the sandbox invites it's more important to get a good group that can be relied upon to test well and thoroughly, and who are capable of turning their observations into coherent reports, than it is to be just or fair in the selection process.

The only people who have the "right" to be involved in the sandbox or any TC of this kindare the Correspondents these are people who work hand and hand with the staff of SWG daily. Bottom line, you work with who you are comfortable with Caylin.

I will honestly say that I was shocked at some of the names there on the list and the ommission of some names. Let's face it though folks, we all have our favorites when it comes to posters in the forum. By favorites I don't mean people who share your view, but favorites as in people who you think make sizable and meaning contributions to these forums and the efforts of our profession.

The fact that my name was on the list sent a beam of pride through me that Caylin respected me enough and the work I did in the focus group to warrant a nod. As soon as I saw the rest of the list however I knew that I was one of the least deserving there. I mentioned some names thatI would have liked to have seen in my reply on that thread, and I respect Caylins response and desire to keep this process as controlled as possible. If we all submitted a list of people we would want in and didn't get that list approved by Caylin we would have a much bigger mess then we have now.

If we can trust Caylin as our correspondent I think it is redundant that we would trust him to make a decision on who he would like to bring int othe sandbox. Liek he said, he could have easily just PM'd a few people and took 5 by private invite only. He did not, he chose 2...then 3 when JTG became available and let us decide on the remaining 2. I think that is fair. If you look into that thread you'll see that nearly all of the replies have been from the most vocal and "heavy-hitters" from this community. I think that is telling.

I feel bad that some people may have felt snubbed, but this is not a decision to act selfishly about. There are many more then 180 people from the entire player base that are well equipped to test the sandbox...but there has to be a line drawn somehow. I think the correspondents are the best informed to make the decisions on who would be the best choice.

If you look around to the other profession forums you will see nearly every correspondent doing this differently. They all have their own approach, neither is right or wrong. It is entirely possible that some who sent Caylin Pm's and emails could get in on another profession. Remember they all get 5, even the non-combat profs....to test the combat revamp. If you have an alt, or a secondary prof that can reasonably request another corr. to get into the sandbox because of your knowledge and skills in combat...you might have a good shot.

I think it is reasonable to assume that the corr. are going to be somewhat responbible for the poeple they recommend to be here. it's always better to vouch for someone if you trust them. This is an issue with Caylin and he sought out those he could trust, even some who openly disagreed with him, or shared a differring viewpoint.

I know that there are other names more deserving then others...but that's my opinion, we all have one and are entitled to it. There is no dancing around the fact that some peoples feelings would get hurt in this process. We should be thankful we are getting this oppurtunity at all, and get a TC toon ready if you don't already have one.

It is my hope that no one shies away from these forums as a result of this innevitable "popularity contest". That would just compound the problems we all face together as the Smuggler community.

I'm honored to be on that list. I'm honored to be asked. Perhaps I'm not who the community would have picked. I've sat back in the shadows for a bit the last few months, and I'm not the presence I used to be. But I beta tested this game from the 1st phase (2nd shuttle, 2nd week of beta). I've been here in this forum for about 3 years now. I've always been a smuggler. It took me a long time to master the profession, but ever since I first created Dayasi Vo'Boda on 6-27-03 he's done nothing but lead a life of crime. Here on the boards I've argued in favor fervently and rationally, stupidly and vindictively too, for the smuggler profession. I've ALWAYS been for smuggling. I've always tried to look at ALL smuggling. Combat smugglers. Slicers. Privateers. Spicers. I've always tried thinking of new ways to play the role of smuggler. I've tried to think of how a desicion will effect ALL types of smuggler, not just the most popular. I've fought with mods.I've fought with dev's. I've fought with correspondents, even our own. And I've always tried to fight for ALL of us. The ones not posting. The ones with one account. The ones playing 10 hours a week. The ones who craft. The ones who are merchants. The ones who are commandos, Triple Threats, and fencers. The ones who want nothing more than to have the controlling interest of spice sales on Corellia. Or Tattooine.

So I'll go where Caylin says. If you all decide that I'm not good enough and convince Caylin that I'm not, I'll go back to my chair, smoke a few deathsticks, and throw my two cents in the conversation where I have been. I'm not even particularly eager to see the sandbox. But I AM eager to see what new directions we can take things for the smugglers. I AM eager to see if we can make the game better fit our vision for the profession, one that's different for all of us, but has one word in common: Smuggling. So I want to go. I want to test new things and see, as any good smuggler should, if we can turn them to OUR advantage, as well as the game's.

You have demonstrated your love for smugglerover and over and over again. Anyone who doubts your intentions should be ashamed. There are MANY deserving people, me among them... I was just happy youtook the time to PM me and tell me I was at least considered in some way shape or form. And as I told you, I have a job, a family, and a life out of SWG.. I could NOT have accepted had you asked.... unless you can get me those extra 4-6 hours a day!

Bottom line: You gotta do what you gotta do. This is not a longevity reward program.. this is about getting the right people to do the best job.

You're in the right Caylin. Like it was said before, it should be who YOU are comfortable with. All the names on the list are from good and respected posters. Does it matter? No. It could be five n00bs I have seen nor heard of, as long as YOU are the one that trusts them. I have faith in ya, and if you trust these guys (who wouldn't?) then they're your guys.

I have lurked on these boards for over 12 months, rarely posting but always noticing those who put in the majority of the work/ideas/etc.

The people you chose have always strived for what is best for the community and have done so clearly andrationally and have always been prepared to admit mistakes.

Bottom line? You are our main voice and the one who reads each and every post here. This places you in the position to be able to clearly see who has the requirements to fulfil this task.
