Thread: We've got law enforcement... but only if you're in a Faction!

So I've been pessimistic, I admit it. Some of you have tried to think of ways this could turn out in our favor and then BAM

we get hit with this.

Maybe I've got tunnel vision because I don't like certain aspects of the new changes, but can anyone tell me what exactly this does for us except to extend the "Crackdown" to planetary authorities without actually having players be held accountable for anything? Stay neutral all you get is a lame fine. Why can't they just have these authorities aggro when you fail? Why can't they see beyond Rebel vs. Imp? I really want to know.

I'd really like to know what the optimists think about this, because I only see it as making Smuggler an even more faction based profession, more than any other one at that. Can anyone explain the logic in that to me?

"Jedi claims of being "broken" are like saying "But my TV isn't widescreen! It's broken! My TV can't show high-def pictures in 1080i, it can only do 720i! It's broken!" Meanwhile, crafters are saying "We'd really like to have a TV that's larger than 12" and gets more than 4 channels and doesn't constantly lose vertical control", and entertainers are saying "Can we get some color instead of this B&W piece of junk?" And smugglers? We're listening to radio programs of "The Shadow" and "The Abbot and Costello Comedy Hour" and hearing FDR's Fireside Chats. We don't even HAVE a damn TV, much less a broken one or a "broken" one by Jedi standards. I'd LOVE to be as "broken" as they are." - The Legendary Solo4114

Dude, I think you need to just relax. All players are punished for scans: factioned, neutral, officer...

You are upsetting me when you cry out foul to what is essentially the greatest change ever to happen to this game.

Sure, neutral players could use harsher penalties, but geezus man, their new system is perfect.

This is the change that I have been waiting for. Can you please express some more support for it? This will finally give smugglers a law to slip past. It is mana falling from heaven. This is THE change that creates an environment where smugglers would be needed. This is it.

One small problem, and you bash it down. That is not cool. Please keep it a little more constructive is all man.

Think about it.

Neutral crafters getting scanned for contraband. What to do?

Zane, they will have half of the scans done by neutral scan teams from CorSec and Fed-dub. Neutrals are capable of being attacked by these NPC's.

Having these neutral NPC's attack neutral players is just one step away.

Hell, if a player wanted to put up a fight with these police scan teams, there would be one.

In addition, a player who runs away from scan teams too often will lose enough faction to be "kill on sight" targets for these policing neutral factioned NPC's.

It would be only a matter of time before even neutral players start to take major heat from the cops.

THis is utter BS.

The scans are NOT at any choke points like starports so why in the world would you think ANYONE would hire a smuggler?

Put them at the starports and THEN things change and having a smuggler makes a difference.

Are ANY of you really going to tag along with other players as they run mundane errands? Are ANY players really going to pay you to do that?

This is NOTHING substantial over what was. Until there are IMPORTANT points that are routinely scanned then NONE of this makes any difference.

Smuggler, Smuggler, Smuggler Pie, Dancers can't smuggle and neither can I.
Ask me a riddle and I reply: "Smuggler, Smuggler, Smuggler Pie."

Smuggler, Smuggler, Smuggler Pie, Why are there Jedi, I don't know why.

After countless posts about punishments needing to be greater, I find it hard to believe that this is really what people have been waiting for. I agree more factions scanning, law enforcement scanning, and more faction interaction is great. That's where it stops. I said in another post that I'm happy for those that do get some joy out of this, I simply cannot.

The answer to the weaponsmith getting scanned needing a Smuggler, I have a question. Why do they need a Smuggler? Are they getting anything more than a meaningless fine, which one sale of a weapon will cover?

The point is this. While the changes are good, we are delving into areas beyond GCW and this needs to be recognised. All players need the penalties of being attacked. All players need restrictions of sliced gear beyond a measely fine, and all players deserve the content that the changes to scanning and who's doing them will provide.

I'm not arguing the whole occupation thing here (although I do have some problems with that), I'm arguing that the only people who will be truly challenged are the faction players.

We argued about wars carrying out into the Civilian population, but now we are talking about law enforcement.

One more thing, and I'm sorry to say this, just because it makes you happy does not mean it has to make anyone else happy. My opinion is this is counterproductive and a step in the wrong direction for neutral Smugglers. How can a neutral Smuggler give somebody his word that he will get him through a city or a scan when he can't even assist him? Why would a Smuggler ever be contracted by a neutral player when the only penalty is a miniscule fine? And finally, why would a non combat profession have any reason to join a faction when it would only hurt their ability to travel and do business?

I'm happy that this is what you've been waiting for, honestly I am. This, to me, is a step in the wrong direction for many, many other people, including myself.

Why crackdown scans can't be at starports was explained already, a while back, by the Devs.

The scans are all trough the town, so the chance of encountering one between wheverer you are going/come from and the starport are great. Greater the highest in rank in your faction you are.

Still some questions that need answers, granted, but it is a step toward something you always wanted SpinningCloud: Smuggling. Of peoples, not of stuff, but one thing at the time: it is GCW changes after all , not our revamp.

I do concede this point, but if they took the time to really revamp the system they could. There were many bright ideas suggested in the past that would circumvent the problems they brought up. I (and yes I'm still being pessimistic, it's the mood I'm in) don't really expect to see it in the non combat profession expansion.

I think it is clear at this point that the game isn't going to be changed to provide 100% of everything that would make life ideal for smugglers.

"Damn them! Damn them to hell!!"

Ok, now that we got the Charleston Heston out of our system, can we get on with life?

Are the new changes perfect from the perspective of smugglers? No. Are they everything that we ever hoped they could be? No. Is it better than what was? Yeah, it is. Can we work with it? Yeah. Maybe we shouldn't knee-jerk bash the devs when things are only better rather than ideal.

Sorry man, but fighting the fight now is more effective than fighting the fight later. As someone pointed out, this is in development and if some of us want changes, we need to get them made now. I love new additions, but I also think new additions should be more all encompassing than they are restrictive.

As for voicing our opinions now, I hope that the correspondents get hold of some of this and pass it on (I've got faith in ya Wes). That thread was into the 20s last I checked and I'm not sure how much more they're going to examine. I hate to keep saying this, but.... I know a lot of people like these changes, I think they should have, and very easily could have, gone a little further with it. I'm not arguing against them, I'm arguing for a little bit more, and I really hope that some of you that are so happy will lend a hand in getting everyone the benefit of some of this.

In my view it's a start. I take issue with the faction rank perk (it's the thing I take the issue with most) and I'd like to see harsher penalties enforced, but this is not the end of the road. There will be more changes to come and we have a revamp on the horizen (well, just over the CURB mountain range anyway).

This was primarily something to tide the GCW over until its own revamp (with possibley more to come, I don't know about that); the fact that they included an addition of neutral scanning teams is promising to me.

We should stick to our guns and let it be heard what we're after, but that doesn't mean we should shoot down in flames the prologue just because it doesn't include the rest of the novel.
