Thread: We've got law enforcement... but only if you're in a Faction!

There are already enough buttpirates whining about having to move off easy street. Lets not let our community get lumped in with them.

In my view it's a start. I take issue with the faction rank perk (it's the thing I take the issue with most) and I'd like to see harsher penalties enforced, but this is not the end of the road. There will be more changes to come and we have a revamp on the horizen (well, just over the CURB mountain range anyway).
This was primarily something to tide the GCW over until its own revamp (with possibley more to come, I don't know about that); the fact that they included an addition of neutral scanning teams is promising to me.
We should stick to our guns and let it be heard what we're after, but that doesn't mean we should shoot down in flames the prologue just because it doesn't include the rest of the novel.
Thanks for that Wes.
Gotta admit I'm more in the Zane camp this time around. I think the changes are good for the game - and I can see how Down the Road this could be cool for the Smuggler, but right now, right here, I don't think this is going to make much difference.
With that said, I'm looking forward to running my Imperial Colonel badness down Coronet's streets and seeing what happens!
Cheers

THis is utter BS.
The scans are NOT at any choke points like starports so why in the world would you think ANYONE would hire a smuggler?
Put them at the starports and THEN things change and having a smuggler makes a difference.
Are ANY of you really going to tag along with other players as they run mundane errands? Are ANY players really going to pay you to do that?
This is NOTHING substantial over what was. Until there are IMPORTANT points that are routinely scanned then NONE of this makes any difference.
You are a smart guy, so I hope you find and read my reply here.
We don't know where they are going to put these scan teams in the cities. If it is anything like Kaadara is like now... people WILL get harrassed at the entrance to starports.
While hanging around near a starport to help someone get through to buy their ticket is a cool idea, the point of the devs' proposed changes is to increase the illegality of contraband, create an Overworld presence in cities, and give a reason for players in the GCW: zone control with perks.
Of course, our eye is on how they are making contraband more illegal. If we make it so a player cannot enter a starport with one sliced gun and have no chance of fighting their way through the situation, this would be a bad thing. I like how a player with contraband will get fined and harrassed to a mild degree, but you can't make it tooo hard on them.
Whatwould be coolare extremely harsh penalties for players with EXCESSIVE amounts of contraband like a backpack full of spice crates or illegal guns. What would be MORE appropriate would be to make special enhancing crafting resources, large amounts of contraband, or possibly GCW weapons/structures/turretsincappable of being taken through a starport without a smuggler.... THIS would be a perfect system.
I bet you could implement a system that would simply prevent travel under these conditions that would tell you, "You are carrying a criminal's load of goods. There is no way you can slip this past security to travel". The result would be a player needing to contact a smuggler to help.
Don't get me wrong Spinning, I'm all for restricting the flow of illegal goods, but putting dedicated and rigorous scan teams at starport entrances might not be the best route. What might be better would be an automated system message that prevents travel for players carrying too much contraband - cutting out the need for such rigorous scan teams.
Harrassing players carrying a normal load of contraband is a good thing, but keeping them pinned on a planet because of a sliced gun would be bad. We can limit the flow of players with crates of HIGHLY illegal contraband (special resources, GCW equipment, high levels/quantities of spice) through starports in a better fashion, without making traveling a real pain for normal players who would otherwise be punished by scan teams ona regular, annoying basis ![]()
Then again, maybe putting rigorous scan teams IS the answer. Who knows. There is alot of thought provoking stuff in this game now that is blowing me away in the best of ways ![]()

I think the fact that they included neutral scan teams as a GIANT step forward to a very nice contraband system!!!! I love you devs!!! (yes, I am acting like a fanboy, but I don't give a ****)

Totally agree with you Wes. I see this as one big step in the right direction, and like the changes 90%.
Heres my 2creds on the other 10% which I willalso post in teh feedback(if they even care about the smuggler perspective here) is that while they are changing the system, they could increase the fines somewhat. Right now they are pocket change, which doesn't really reflect the "severity" of the crime.. if was a cop and I caught someone carrying large quantities of Highly Illegal Mind Altering Substances, I would do more than take a roll of quarters from him as punishment.
Also the high ranking members should not be exempt in all cases. I can see why Rebels would not be punished by rebels for carrying sliced equipment, it makes him more effective. But Spice should still be contraband no matter who's scanning you IMO. I'm sure you've already posted this stuff in the corr Forums.. keep up the good work ![]()

I'd like to see people like Wes, and others who can effectively relate our concerns continue to do so;
But I do think/hope that we will make headway in the future.
Right now we are looking at them basically changing/revamping everything about this game to in effect remedy a lot of what people do not like, or have not been interested in, and I really hope we'll all eventually arrive at an agreeable place to everyone but especially for smugglers. Heaven knows we need some love, and have needed some serious love for a long time. I have left the ranks of the smuggler 7 times in frustration with what hasn't been done for smugglers. I'm back now (this is the 8th time I've mastered smuggler) and am going to stick it out this time in hopes that we'll see some changes in the next few months that will be very agreeable to smugglers.
I'm really glad that this is a game that *can* be changed and have things added, removed, or tweaked.

OMG!
This will bring the birth of the Smuggler Bot!
Just like buf bots we can automate our acceptance to a group then automate an auto 'follow' and not even be there while some group drags us around town running errands. Afterall THIS form of 'smuggling' doens't require us to do ONE DAMN ACTIVE THING.
This ISN'T smuggling folks. It's more like passive babysitting.
How would you actually trade items back and forth like this?
I'm not sure an auto follow in a town would work well tho.
I'm not sure I understand you SpinningCloud. The changes suggested (and let's remind ourselves it is In Development, not in TC, so still can change) are bringing us closer to a system where they could, with minimal changes, implement REAL Smuggling for us. Something you have been bemoaning the lack of in 95% of your posts here. (disclaimer: that statistic, like 90% of all statistics, was made up
You should be concerned with a dash of very cautious optimism, but instead you start in a cruisade against the changes.
BTW, for peoples to start playing Smuggler bots would mean we are very in demand to smuggle persons trough, or you said elsewhere we would never be with this system. So wich one is it? Beside, eventually they will make such bots impossible by removing recursive macros. (yes so they are taking their time with that, as they should because macros are used by a lot of peoples, and not just to afk stuff.)
Ok, that was very close to a rant for me. I am not attacking you SpinningCloud, just trying to understand you.
Time for me to grab a coffee. hehehe

Are you just going to complain and spread negativity without adding something to the situation?
How many rediculous things can we find to be afraid of?
