Thread: uhoh we are in trouble?

Has anyone else considered what the new antidecay kits will do to smugglers? Please no flames I am going to enter the word weaponsmith in this thread so if you have a weak stomach or macho temper please step back.

Weapons with these kits will now last forever. When it comes to super strong weapons one has to ask will players not constantly use these weapons instead of from time to time replaceing them? You have a krayt t21 you get it sliced you put on the kit you will never need to get another t21 or get it sliced for that matter.

Yes this is bad for weaponsmiths. I can forsee on my bh doing this to my krayted llc, and never haveing to buy another llc ever again. Plus I will just default to useing that weapon for all my pve needs. This is also bad for smugglers too we require people to buy new stuff for us to slice it. Fewer weapons needing to be sliced is sad. Sure we may still be able to do this, but with what degree of necessity?

Once we get past our sliceing problem we come face to face with another problem. What will happen in pve or pvp. Its not like we have a uber weapon selection to work off of, but now that downside will be multiplied multifold. How happy will we be not being able to do the kind of damage we used to be able to do.

Just some interesting thoughts. Do you think the antidecay kits will do real harm to smuggler. Please no people will still need it arguments. My question revolves around even less demand for smugglers, and even less combat prowess.

Yeah was pondering that myself. I'm a M/Smuggler and M/Rifleman - I went out last night to find an exceptional T21 to slap the anti-decay kit on and let that bad boy be my mainstay.

With that said though - I don't have a anti-decay kit for my other rifles (acid, head, cold, etc) nor do I have one for my pistol. So the pistol I'll need to replace frequently - not so frequently for my other rifles though so yes I think it would slow down weapon sales, and by extenstion - slicing.

However there are 2 wild cards in the deck here that we can't foresee:

1) How will the CURB affect the weapon balance. Will there still be the ultimate uber weapon vs. utlimate uber armour. Or will the most uberst of weapons still be weak against various armour parts? This would facilitate multiple weapons - and again - only 1 anti-decay kit that you can't retrieve unless you destroy your uber weapon. So this is in the air.

2) How will the changes to the GCW (or GSW if you're Yimaz) and crackdown rules play out?

I think for now, all we can do is voice opinions in the appropriate forums (Development, GCW, etc) to let the devs know about our concerns and go from there.

Given the magnitude of change - I'm not getting too worked up at this point. Heck, if the airplanes controls freeze up - nothing left to do except enjoy the view as you go down!

Cheers

Dont weapons still decay by way of the number of uses? You can only repair a weapon so many times, so while your uber weapon wont decay with death it will still be killed by use, no??

Well, I thought the same thing when they announced the anti-decay kits, I have to be honest.

After thinking on this for quite a while, I don't think they're going to have a tremendous impact on the community, but a dent might be made, of course.

The way I see it, it's like this: yes, it totally stinks we only slice someone's only uber-1337 Krayted T-21, but most people carry at least 2 different guns on them because of damage types. That second, third, fourth, etc.. gun is going to be sliced. I have so many pistols and VKs in my inventory it's not even funny! When you said you'd default that LLC to all your PvE needs, that is not true if you're going to hunt something with 100% resists to that gun. I wouldn't worry too much about the lack of weapons to slice.

Also, remember that many people didn't choose the anti-decay kit (like myself!) I picked the Jabba.

Now, on your second though about "what's going to happen in pve or pvp," this is just something we can't really forsee, the CURB is going to change a lot. I don't really see the need for the Doom and Gloom right now, because they are in the process of changing the way everyone fights. And as for "How happy will we be not being able to do the kind of damage we used to be able to do," I don't recall ever having great damage as a Master Smuggler!

I honestly think that, in the end, there aren't enough people to truly cause trouble for smugglers. If it was a repeating reward, I'd say hell yes. But since it's once an account's lifetime item, I don't really see a problem.

I wouldn't stress too much about it.

OOhh, I just assumed (yeah I know the danger of that word) that "anti-decay" meant "anti-decay" So I could be out on the branch of ignorance off the tree of knowledge here.

It says very clearly ant-decay from death, I could be wrong but I dont think this is an issue the weapon still decays with use just not with death.

I think the other goes without saying...I used my anti-decay kit on my De-10, all yesterday I was playing with it,and its yet to fall under 366 condition.

Veela is very right though. People carry more than one weapon...alot of people didnt take the anti-decay kit, and you also have to consider, that not every SWG player on the servers has been here long enough to recieve it.

Then why place a decay kit on a weapon at all? Since death has no effect on weapons.

It's a decay kit for any item not just a weapon and when you die even if you insure an item there is still decay. Im not looking to fight with anyone on this, if I'm right cool if im wrong...well it wont be the first time.

1. The kit prevents a weapon from decaying period no matter the circumstance.

2. The kits are tradeable. No reason a player cannot have all weapons kitted if he buys it.

3. The kits last until you destroy the weapon and reclaim the kit

4. Most players rely on one weapon ninety percent of the time like my LLC analogy unless the enemy has a high electric resist I rarely switch up to a scatter pistol to do acid damage. Ninety percent of the use equals out to ninety percent of the sliceing. If your a tkm. Ninety percent of the time you will use a knuckler that simple. If your a riflemen ninety percent of the time you will use a T21. Trust me guys as a weaponsmith I sell ten times the T21s as I do laser rifles. Its not that my laser rifles arent any good either. With a32 slice I can get 600 max damage on them.

The net result is that players will put the kit on their finest weapon. One that is already sliced, and use that weapon 90 percent of the time. Remember that most of the weapons that need replaced in the game are the primary weapons. These after all are the weapons that decay and destroy the fastest.

P.S. Havent heard if the system prevents players from carrying multiple weapons that have been kitted or not.

Quote from Cal:

The anti-decay kit only works on weapons and items that can be insured.

What this means is that items that decay from use(?) or damage. I believe the use thing is limited to certain things like weapons, but it would need to be tested out. ( On a side note, PLKs are insurable right? Would be funny to never have to make another one ever gain. LOL)

So yes, a weapon with this on it will never need a repair. Not sure how it works with powerups, once again would need to test it out, since LSs also protect whatever is contained in it.

What this does to us is two fold. Initially people may be wanting more guns sliced in order to get the"perfect" weapon to use this on. In the long run they will have no need for more slices unless they come across a new and even more uber weapon to use.

Anything beyond what it does to the here and now is pure speculation. I'm in the mindset that some of the others here are that the CURB will make having one damage type (heat, acid, etc.) will no longer be so valuable. The armors and their resistances and usefulness in different aspects of combat are changing. We know this has been stated. We know weapons will get a balance pass. What we don't know is how they will get balanced.

Simply put how this will effect us long term is more up in the air than when our revamp is, which is something different for a change.
