Thread: Confirmation: Erroneous Damage Slicing

This is a confirmation that damage slicing can result in erroneous values!


Just a fair warning, another post questioned that this may be an issue, and I can certainly confirm this is the case in some instances. I have not yet been able to effectively reproduce the exact cause but be warned that you may not see an 8% result when slicing weapons that have enhanced components, including but possibly not limited to Krayt Tissues.


I am unable to confirm if this problem exists with non-enhanced weapons, because I don't have the number of damage slicing components necessary to test a significant number of 8% damage slices, but using the High Capacity Scatter Pistol I just crafted with Krayt Tissues as an example, here is the result I saw.


I crafted this weapons specifically to fall under 875 damage so after an 8% slice I could come close to capping the damage.


The pistol after krayt tissue enhancements was

874 max damage


I sliced the pistol for 8% damage which should have resulted in

874 * .08 = 69.92 (cut off to 69)

This equals 943 damage after the 8% damage slice


My actual result was

916 damage after the applied 8% damage slice!



I can also confirm that this is not the case with all weapons, because I have sliced 2 other weapons before this one for an actual 8% that matched as expected, although these two weapons did not have any enhancements used in crafting.


Obviously this needs to be addressed, and we are not going to be very helpful in determining the circumstances in which this occurs due to the lack of high level slicing tools available, nor will anyone be likely towaste enhancements just to test this, so in the Dev's hands it shall remain.

Be sure to remove speed powerups when you slice for speed also... I know that has nothing to do with your post, but I'm just throwing that out.

It does affect slicing.

Strange, I went over your math... yeah, weird. I was always confused about that 2%, 4%, and 8% and their stacking values... im rather confused. If you are right, all smugglers better beware of this and it needs a hotfix.

Technically, it should work correctly if applied like this


874 * 1.02 = 891 (First 2% Slice)


891 * 1.02 = 908 (Second 2% Slice; Totals 4%)


908 * 1.04 = 944 (Final 4% Slice; Totals 8%)



So, somehow I managed to get less than a 1% slice on my final slice

I'm pretty sure that the 8% is based on the average damgae (min+max/2) not the max damage.

That was the exact same math I went through, but unless there is a wrong cap listed for that gun (which I am certain there is not) this must be a bug...

I've tried damage slicing weapons made by a friend and it says that I can't slice the weapons for increased damage as the weapon is at its maximum damage output :-s is this a bug?

From the other weapons i've sliced that worked correctly, this was the result


New Min Damage = Min Damage * 1.08 (8% Slice)


New Max Damage = Max Damage * 1.08 (8% Slice)


I was under the impression that this is how it is 'supposed' to work, they are applied independantly of each other; I have observed these results with other weapons, but unfortunately not with the one weapon that counted.


-Edit- That may be the case Scarlet; Slicing does not give the ability to surpass weapon caps so if you are at the cap it is not slicable beyond that.

The weapon reached a damage cap... every weapon has a preconceived damage cap... its for balance, once the gun reaches it, it cannot go over it.

I dont know if the devs plan to remove it for slicing, but so far, slicing will not rise above the weapons cap. There is a list of weapon caps on the weaponsmith forum, its a sticky at the top.

EDIT: There is also a speed cap on weapons too, generally its around 1.7 something... most damage caps can be around 900 something, some are lower and some are higher.

Notice: I have confirmed that this damage slice miscalculation applies specifically to weapons that were crafted with enhancements. The bug is repeatable, and it appears that the damage increase calculation is not taking the actual damage including enhancements into consideration.


If there are any other weaponsmith/smugglers that could attempt to reproduce this (hopefully using scrap bone shards or maybe high capacity blaster enhancements or projectile feed enhancers) it would be nice to know if this applies to all enhanced weapons or specific enhancements. It is definately happening with krayt tissued weapons though; I was just able to repeat the bug when crafting a krayt enhanced blaster fist.

Nice observations. Though today I sliced my Krayted DL-44XT Blaster and got the full 12% speed slice. Or do you mean it only goes into damage.

I haven't done any testing on speed slicing enhanced weapons; This is catered toward the damage slicing. But it's good to know that you were able to slice a krayted weapon for a full 12% speed... maybe my Tissues are just too thin

It is likely all damage oriented. That 12% slice knocked my DPS up to 350! (I know it doesnt mean much, but still). I like to think it does. I read in some posts that damage was calculated via the minimum damage and applied to the max damage, I was going to see if this was the case for you, but it appears as though you didn't post your weapons full stats and its minimum-maximum damage and speed modifiers.

The problems should all work there way out eventually, and I can only hope that GreenMarine pops up and helps us out with these fixes...

Things I would like to see:
Stackable Slicing Components
Proper Percentages
Good Loot drops or give us them in SMUGGLER MISSIONS, like promised...
