looks like the DEVs have shoved their head way up their........ in regards to the GCW. Helios is now trying to come up with ways of having MORE jedi roles in PVP forgetting that 95% of it is already groups of 30 jedi running around doing gank squads.

clicky

Of course yours truly will be battling this issue to the end (sig should say enough).

As always, not unexpected.

My thoughts on the matter are on the first page and, people, please ignore the trolls and just put your feedback there - no need to derail the thread even further, it's quite obvious how it will turn out in the end so... make sure that the first few pages have some quality posts instead of pointless bickering.

I read that post man, my jaw just about dropped. I'm really not sure what to post at this point I'm so damned dumbfounded by the fact that they really don't get it.

Changing how bases are brought down doesn't fix the problem, it doesn't eliminate Jedi gank squads, it doesn't fix the fact that a normal profession cannot go SF for an extended period of time (more than 20 minutes) without running the risk of running into a Jedi who's designed to be half again better than he is.

The guy is totally clueless.

"Jedi claims of being "broken" are like saying "But my TV isn't widescreen! It's broken! My TV can't show high-def pictures in 1080i, it can only do 720i! It's broken!" Meanwhile, crafters are saying "We'd really like to have a TV that's larger than 12" and gets more than 4 channels and doesn't constantly lose vertical control", and entertainers are saying "Can we get some color instead of this B&W piece of junk?" And smugglers? We're listening to radio programs of "The Shadow" and "The Abbot and Costello Comedy Hour" and hearing FDR's Fireside Chats. We don't even HAVE a damn TV, much less a broken one or a "broken" one by Jedi standards. I'd LOVE to be as "broken" as they are." - The Legendary Solo4114

Ok, I love this... it's hilarious:

"Big PvP battles is all about how well your client can render the action and how many FPS you can keep up. At 1 to 2 FPS you will always die. It's the jedi with the excellent computer, not the jedi skill set that kills you."

Don't worry, I've posted there... I just don't have the patience right now to keep up with the trolls.

I'm thinking if they made it so you lost skillboxes for getting killed by a BH again, it would clear the nasty jedi in the GCW problem right up. If these gank squads got serious visibility with actual consequences, there would be far fewer of them doing it. If each BH kill only took a percentage off of the Jedi's visibility earned by "whipping it out" in public then there would be a lot more incentive to only do it in rare situations. If Jedi's gaining visibility from starport NPC's were immediately greeted by a shuttle full of high CL dark troopers or sith that proceeded to beat them like a Senators girlfriend we wouldn't see the Glowie Starport Porcupines any more either.

My idea (rough form not balanced or well thought out)

Visibility from: Same faction NPC: 0 pts
Teammate: 0 pts
Opposite alignment NPC/PC: 100 pts
Neutral NPC/PC: 50 points

Threshold for terminal Appearance: 1000 points

Vis lost per 24 hours: 100 points

BH kill Visibility Removal 20%

So JoeBob Jedi Whips it out in a starport and 10 neutral NPC's see him. Ooops there's 500 points of visibility. JoeBob Jedi is still ok though so he goes about his business. Later that day he goes and kills a small faction mission that had 4 soldiers at it woops 400 more points. Now JoeBob is at 900 points better go to bed. The next day he has only 800 points since he burned 100 off at the 24 hour mark. Oooh a big GCW battle! JoeBob goes and decides to play in the battle. Oh No! 25 PC's and 10 NPCs of the opposite faction see him resulting in a whopping 3500 points of Visibility + his 800 remaining = 4300 points! Guess whos up on the boards like Michael Jordan in College? So your neighborhood BH finds JoeBob and Kicks him so hard his blue glowie father feels it! OOOFDA! Now Joebob looses 20% of his Vis (860) for a total of 3440 points...JoeBob better play it cool. Lets say Joebob doesn't play it cool though. Oh another BH finds him...bummer, well at least he loses another 688 points for 2752 points...Really Joebob go hide somewhere because you just lost 2 boxes and you are going to have to regrind them. Well thank god for our story joebob is a moron. He goes and whips it out in a starport again...Mos Eisly. There are soooo many players there that he gets above the 5000 Visibility Threshold. Thats a drag because now the starport wont let him take off and Vader or some big evil sith are on the way to beat. his. arse. The good news is that he will lose 20% of his visibility and another box.

I dunno not very well fleshed out but its along the lines of what I think would be more fair and in line with the story...shrug

it used to work that way.. till the jedi whined and they took it away. 95% of this game development time is spent consoling the jedi whining. They cant squeeze any profession revamp in of any quality because over half the programmers spend all their time addressing jedi forum issues. I have no faith in any risk/reward system because SOE keeps removing the risk at the very HINT of someone complaining.. see our slicing revamp and how it became 'Plan B' before it even got tested and bugs worked out.

I've supported the idea of fixing this wtih the FRS. Give jedi large FRS penalities for killing non jedi. Then Jedi knights will be more likely to duke it out with other jedi rather than grief normal professions.

as long as they do two major profession revamps before they do the FRS i'm cool with that. This game has been hijacked by jedi since pub9 and the non-jedi havent had even 1/10th the attention that the BH v Jedi system has been given. Upsetting really.

I love it - which means, it'll never happen. More likely that the patch they'll put in will only replace the word jedi in the story above with the word smuggler....that way all remaining smugglers will quit or respec to another profession and they can delete our profession all together.

It is my intention to commandeer one of these ships, pick up a crew in Mos Eisley, raid, pillage, plunder, and otherwise pilfer my weasly black guts out......wait, I'm a smuggler - back to crafting spice! Ahh, crap! Can't even do that anymore...guess I'll just sell FP. Can someone please tell me when Han did that in ANY of the movies?
