Thread: IC clarification
The purpose of the In Concept thread is to gather feedback before the design is locked down. The In-Concept threads may not even make it into the game either. It is just a way for the developers to give the community an insight of what they are thinking of doing.
This request was made as a reply to the thread in which I talked about the IC answers and all your reactions to it.
In other words, there has been nothing even worked on.
So November meant the expansion. /bookshelf
I suppose this is their way of quieting things down. With that said, I guess that leaves the biggest question of all:
Do they actually plan on listening to the community?
Wes, regardless of the what IC means, there is a real problem with the answers that were given. They need to understand that, and this statement from them does not illustrate any understanding. I know you're caught in the middle and it bears no mark on you, but this is ridiculous.
Well, ANYTHING that makes the IC Answers LESS definate is a good thing, I think. Personally, I'd rather have no revamp than the terrestrial delivery missions w/ faction crap they proposed. Our revamp really, really needs to include space content, player-bounties, and an avoidance skill. If they're trying to placate us with a revamp offering NONE of these, I'd rather they just focus on "fixing" another borked profession and put us off (again) until they have something worthwhile...
I've stood by for two years. I gave them the benefit of the doubt. I held on while countless others gave up on smuggler, and most left the game altogether. But this is too much. This is a bigger insult than the infamous "smuggler revamp has been put off indefinately" while wecobbletogether another expansion to shove out, imo.
Something is NOT always better than nothing. At least with nothing we're near the top of the list prioritywise. Getting this craptacular "revamp" moves us right back to the bottom. If they bother wasting their apparently precious few resources developing this turd, I'll be cancelling. For the record, this is the first time I'm making that threat.

I've been asked to state that the Smuggler changes are still, "In Concept" and as such have not yet been moved to, "In Development" which is why some things have not been decided at this time.

Not for nothing, but I find that the Development staff tends to make their minds up after the "in concept" phase of a publish, and "In Development/In Testing" become more or less a tweaking phase of their ideas.
b) If the In Concept post, which is supposed to be a concept that gets refined, added to, and made better through discussion, ends up being not implemented at all except for a few (arguably worst and most meaningless) concepts - as an example, look at the slicing changes - something's very wrong.

That's the problem.
People are encouraged to do their battles through a process which doesn't mean anything anymore.
I love the Correspondent system. I love the feedback threads. And I hate to see them ignored for years, while simultaneously listening to 13-year-olds tugging at developers' sleeves on Fan Fests and implementing their desires in a matter of weeks.

Exactly.
Thanks Wes! I admire your tenactity in the face of such a thankless task as being the "go between" for a very upset community (US) and a community which for all intents and purposes is unwilling to give us the answers and content we desire (SOE).
I guess what truly is the most disheartening about this entire situation (for me) can be boiled down to this:
1) Smuggler Community has seen ideas on the IC Forum many times in the past, and yet we are still waiting for anything we have discussed to be implemented or attempted. Set aside our own demands for a moment and look at how often we have seen anything good for the Smugglers come from the IC Forum. At the risk of exaggerating, it seems like new Smuggler Profession ideas appear on the IC Forum roughly every 6 months and yet we have seen little improvement in 2 years. Granted we have seen some changes, but I submit that there has been very little actual improvement in the community's eyes....and virtually none of it has stemmed from what we saw in IC.
2) All professions have an IC Forum, yet a common complaint fromALL professions is that the ideas on the IC Forum seldom addresses the wants and needs of the individual communities, with the posssible exception of Jedi and BH professions. What is the point of the IC Forum anymore if the feedback it generates is not heeded? How many times have things that were IC gone to Live in spite of overwhelming disapproval, and then had to be tweaked, nerfed, or removed for the very same reasons they were fought against in IC or ID? Note: I'm not flaming Jedi or BH, just stating thatfor whatever reason their ICdiscussions generally seem to result in things being implemented which their communites actually wanted.
3) SOE representatives are still asking correspondents for lists of priority items for their communities, and SOE still periodically polls the SWG community for ideas on improving this game. This in spite of the fact that dedicated correspondents (like Wes)are already been giving SOE weekly and sometimes daily feedback on what we want, and that almost every professional forum already has a stickied list of high-priority content/issues they would like addressed. It is like SOE is saying "Yes, but besides all that what would you really like us to do about your profession?" as if theythink all the stuff we have written was just a lark or to make time pass. It simply makes no sense...all the information and ideas they need to improve every aspect of this game has been discussed ad nauseum in these Forums, yet SOE continually gives the appearance of being ignorant of this info and instead proceeds along paths which are not congruent with the community's wishes.
So again, thank you Wes for continuing to represent us and fight for our cause in spite of the three hurdles I listed above and all the other hurdles you face every day. Thank you for taking valuable time out of your REAL LIFE in order to try and make ourIMAGINARY experiences as Smugglers and Rogues better. ![]()

After so much conceptualization of our profession they should get it perfect the first time. Yet after the questions they answered it sure doesn't look like that is going to be the case.
