Thread: Open letter to Wes
My question is this: why should we bother?
Why should we bother complaining when it does nothing.
Why should we bother making constructive suggestions when they never listen.
Why should we bother playing smugglers when they clearly only care about jedi and BHs?
Why should we bother trying to help new smugglers with the profession when it is slowly decaying into nothing?
It seems to me the most frustrating thing is on one hand we make tons (and years) of constructive suggestions from Crimeboss to Prison breaks to space based smuggler missions (though it could be argued we shouldn't have had to point that one out, but I get the feeling the devs haven't actually seen a Star Wars movie), and they essentially ignore the scores of fine suggestions this commmunity has come up with over the years and come up with what is basically a lame adaptation of delivery missions. On the other hand we have complained in nearly every way you can...we've written letters to everyone under the sun (even getting some good attention from the gaming press), we've been banned for making ascerbic and often creative posts criticizing the devs, we've drank beer and ate pie, we've had petitions and claps across the Galaxy, but none of this has had any effect. So basically we've tried everything positive and negative to communicate what we, the paying customers who want to be smugglers like we were promised from the very beginning and none of it has had any effect.
So why should we bother trying at all?
And why should we bother with a correspondant? (Now, this doesn't mean anything about you personally more about their attitude towards the whole situation which seems to make the need for a correspondant irrelevant).
And I ask this with all due respect and love, but why do you bother continuing as a correspondant. It doesn't seem like they listen to you. You do a pretty good job gathering our concerns, dreams and desires and communicating them to the devs, but what does it do? It seems that nothing you or we do matters to them, so please let me know why we need a correspondent?
I think highly of you, but maybe you should quit in protest and we should all refuse to apply to replace you. I think maybe this is the only type of protest we haven't done. I propose we bring the truth to light and refuse to have a correspondent since it is obvious it makes no difference at all. (and once again let me clarify this is not about you, it is about them, don't want you to think I'm harping on you).
I think maybe we need to all stand up and say we know it doesn't matter so don't bother decieving us into thinking you (the devs) care about and listen to us by hiring a correspondent. We know the reality is you don't care, so lets drop the pretense and get rid of the position.
But then again, I don't really think this will make a bit of difference, which brings me to my last question:
Why should we bother to care at all?

Refuse to apply for the Correspondent position and you'll get the most inappropriate person possible as your Correspondent for the next 6 months. As simple as that.
Ok, but how would this make any difference? My point is the whole position is irrelevant. What would it matter if we had the most inappropriate or incompetant or even more appropriate and compentant person as a correspondent if nothing they do or say matters? I think, with all due respect, you are missing my point. My point is nothing seems to matter. It doesn't seem to matter if we have a correspondent, so why would having an inappropriate one matter at all?
Just noticed I'm at 666 posts now, does that mean I'm evil now?

Then why ask Wes to step down if nothing we do matters? They would just accept the resignation and put another person in his place...we will never not have a correspondant.
I have to believe that someday we will have at least some of the ideas implemented that we wanted. Look at Ranger, SL and CH....I never thought they would touch those guys with a revamp of any sort and now all three have one or will soon.I get down in here and upset/mad after seeing some of our"fixes" and revamps" but I have faith that if we keep presenting our ideas to the Devs eventually something will be done. It will not be everything we want (I think that is a bit too cynical to think they will give us everything we demand), but it will be a step in the right direction.
And I can think of no better Smuggler here to present those ideas to them than Wes.

Sorry to be so crude, but how many times do you have to piss on an electric fence to figure out that you're going to get shocked every time?
The devs do not listen.
This applies to all the professions that have the minority of players.
The professions that have the majority are the ones that are making the most profit for SOE and that is who they are going to cater to.
Several professions need revamps/fixes/etc. and we would definately not get every idea that has been discussed here, but to give us modified delivery missions and a penalty for carrying items that everyone else gets to carry with no penalty, and being hunted without a decent means of defense is a slap in the face.
We need a quality revamp.
I can accept that it would take time to do.
I can accept that everything we ever dreamed of won't be included.
I can accept changes that I don't personally like to better the profession.
I can accept that it may take more than one patch to get all the parts in, but...
Let's say that everything in the 'current design' is implemented.
When would the 'next phase' come around?
It's taken over 2 years to get this much done, despite the thousands of ideas that have been given.
I cannot accept half-completed concepts and implementations.
I cannot accept penalties for things that every other player can use without repercussion.
I cannot accept taking away abilities and nothing given in return.
I cannot accept being hunted by an (almost) Alpha class when I am a Gamma class.
Wes came back to us with info that those answers were still 'in concept' and not to development yet.
Ok, great.
But if we don't let it be known right now that this is only the very basics of what we really need, by the time it gets to 'in development' it will be too late to change anything.
Look at those answers again.
The ones that say 'still in development' or 'not initially' at least hold some hope, but look at the ones that say 'not under the current design/system'.
Those are the ones that really make a Smuggler a smuggler.
Those are also the ones that will probably never be implemented.
We can constructively criticize, rant, quit, flame, get banned, and there's a possibility that there's a chance that it might be implemented.
Someday.
But it's still unlikely.
I hope that whatever we end up with is better than this mockery of what it appears that we will get.
I just don't know how many times I can say it, but why do the people in charge have no clue about running this game?
If they stopped the expansions for one year and gave quality revamps to the professions that need it most, many people would resubscribe, in addition to the new players.
With all the resubs, and the new players, there would be plenty of money to hire enough people to do 2-4 quality revamps per year plus 1-2 larger expansions per year and/or 2-4 smaller expansions per year, and not give the bigwigs a pay cut. (And maybe even an increase)
Actually, I thought about making a macro with that in it so I don't need to type it out, but I'm going to go one better. Sticking it in the sig will say it every time I post.
Wow, what an idea.
Hmm, wonder if there will be repercussions...
Oh well.

I'm not asking him to step down. It's a rhetorical question. I'm sure you noticed I made mention of this several times. I'm not asking him to step down. I'm just using the question to frame my frustration with the devs. Jeez give me a break, read waht I wrote and think about it will you? Don't just glance at it and go all kneejerk on me. I think Wes is doing a great job, I just don't see the point?
Do you understand what a rhetorical question is? I ask it not to really ask that question, but to underscore and, hopefully, bring to light a paradox about response, which is neither being negative nor positive in our approach to the devs works.
Read my original post again and think about it, ok? Give me a little more credit than you are, and remember this: I am not actually asking Wes to step down, ok?
I'm trying to express my frustration with the situation.
Message edited to add definition of Rhetorical question:
A rhetorical question is usually defined as any question asked for a purpose other than to obtain the information the question asks. For example, "Why are you so stupid?" is likely to be a statement regarding one's opinion of the person addressed rather than a genuine request to know. Similarly, when someone responds to a tragic event by saying, "Why me, God?!" it is more likely to be an accusation or an expression of feeling than a realistic request for information.

I don't think you really understand what I'm saying, please read it again. I'm not REALLY asking him to step down.
It's a rhetorical question, ok?
I'm just trying to put into words my frustration with the devs, no my frustration with Wes.
It's about them, not Wes, ok?

I am not actually asking Wes to step down.
I think Wes is a kickash coro.
I think Caylin was a kickash coro.
I think all our coros have been kickash, but...
It made no difference.
My point is why bother with a coro if it makes no difference?
This isn't a statement about Wes' job performance in particular, but the reality of its futility, which is to say, no matter how good a job he does it doesn't make any difference, so I asked the rhetorical question why bother to have a coro at all.

Ok, I hope this clears things up.

LOL....I think you need to unwind and relax a bit child. I certainly do know what a rhetorical question is.
My point which you completely overlooked in hurried attempt at a silly retort to what you thought was an insult thrown you was that if you think that it does no good no matter what we do, say or who the correspondant...
Why are you still in here posting?
If you give up, then move along.
