My point is, who cares? You're a smuggler. Make money.

just wanted everyones opinion on my new "thing" that i have started doing. i have heavily got into roleplaying a pirate and proud smuggler criminal on my server, but my new thing is devious and some non-smuggler types might find it wrong. Really? If find if there's a need, and you fill it, it's legit.
basically i buy cheap good weapons off the bazaar (usually under 10k) then slice them, and resell them for 20k. i dont do this for just profit, i do it cause it is something a pirate would do, rob you blind then sell your stuff on the market. If the fish are biteing....
alot of people make really good weapons but sell them for cheap on the bazaar, so i have began buying them, even if the slice is crappy(sense slicing is broken) it still improves the weapon so i turn around and sell it for what i think its worth.
what would this be called? so far i have these titles that i use for myself: I prefer "Modification Specialist"
spice pusher, rank delegator, slicer, what would this new tactic be called? Yeah, what the other guy said, you are doing this for a profit, right?
not asking for a flame, asking for what the term is for pirates who rob and sell for double. No flams here, unless some Jedi wanders in whining. Then we ring the militia bell. I bring the petrol, you bring the torches. Kapeesh?
I wish slicing xp and slicing xp actually came from their own xp, not pistol ![]()
however, once I can slice weapons I shall terrorize Chimaera
I sort of did this for a bit pre-cu, in order to get the best rifles possible with little loss to my income. I would buy up quite a few good rifles, slice them, keep the best slices, sell the other ones at a slight profit.
Weaponsmiths tend to frown on it, BUT it is not against anything a smuggler might do, and the weaponsmiths do still make their profit on it, so really, it doesn't hurt anyone except MAYBE the end customer
This was my basic shtick back in the proverbial "day" as well.
When I started the game i said to myself: "Self, what would a smuggler be runnin in a galaxy divided by war?"
and self answered: "beer"
so i went and got a beer and self said:" galaxy at war...hmmm..Drugs and Money!1!!"
So I was a Master Smuggler, Master Weaponsmith, My guns were good not great compared to the weaponsmiths on server that had teh uber skill tapes and krayt, but then I would slice em all and charge around the same to more and they sold like ... well like drugs and guns
I have, printed for my reference, a copy of the WS sticky post that lists stat caps for a LOT of weapons.
Under the current system, this is what I use to judge if a customer's(or my own) weapon is worth slicing now, of it it should be left off til the new system comes.
I also use it to trawl the waters of the bazaar, looking for nice slicing candidates for re-sale.
Ragarding the ethics... well, first... HAHAHAHAHHAHAHA I'm a SMUGGLER.
Second, the WS got what he wanted to sell it for. after that point, it's no longer "his" property, maker's mark or not. What you do with it is your affair.
Most of the WSes I've met that get tweaked about this are ONLY tweaked because it *did* sell at twice their price, and they didn't get the profit. They thought it wasn't fair unless they were stiffing me on a bulk slicing cost and making an extra 10K or more a gun off of *my* effort.
Some WSes are much nicer than that. I had a deal with one once, long ago, wherein he supplied me with discounted guns of my choosing(he still made a profit-- it was just narrower), in exchange for the right to plant an unmodified gun vendor right next to my sliced guns vendor. It worked out well, as some people came for my sliced versions, some came for his guns, some came for one or the other and ended up picking the opposite of their original plan... and many who bought from his vendor then requested slices from me. It was very nice, really.
You had choices. you could Buy a nice FWG for 10K. Or you could buy a nice pre-sliced FWG for 20K. Or you could buy a nice FWG and *then* have it sliced for 15K(I posted an offer of discounted slices on anything from that unsliced vendor in an attempt to snag what business got pulled away from my sliced vendor. And it worked, for the most part. People sometimes asked why the sliced vendor wasn't 15K, too, and I always told them you get a 5K discount for taking the risk of a bad roll).
